100% natural. The only training was to help protect her from straining and damaging her voice. Other than that, her main musical schooling was learning instruments. Her teachers were very aware of her gift and made sure she was free to develop according to her own interests. The most surprising thing to find out about Angelina is non of her family are singers or musicians. She has perfect pitch we first see her singing with a mike at 18 months. Later in playgroup looking tortured by the other children's singing and refusing to join in the discordant cacophony. I watched her grow singing works by all the great vocalists. She was shy as a child but as a performer and singer she has always been fearless. We heard her tackling great songs from the earliest age. Great first reaction. Angelina, originally from Norway but now living in LA, is barely 9 years old in this video but by this time is pretty much already a professional. She is basically self taught No formal vocal training or vocal coaches. As far as we know the only vocal instruction she was given was how to protect her voice. No musicians or singers in her family. By age 3 she was studying the jazz greats in RU-vid videos after being introduced to the music at an early age by her jazz fan grandmother. She is still relatively unknown as her family wanted her to have as normal a childhood as possible. She signed with Republic Records at age 14. Now 17 and graduated from high school she is ready to go full force with her career.

Thanks for your reaction! She is only 17 years old today and from Norway. She signed with the label Republic Records just 14 years old, I think we can safely leave the promotion to Republic Record. Marketing will start when her full album is released later this year. There's only one EP with 6 songs she's released from RR now, and they haven't started marketing until the full album is released!. Republic Records know 100% what they are doing? I think a lot of people don't realize how much Angelina has done in her short life (17). She performed FIFA AWARD song, and performed in front of 40 000 people only 11 years old invited by Norah Jones. She was also specially invited by Quincy Jones to perform on his 85th birthday in the O2 arena / London. And so on goes the list... She has over 250 songs on RU-vid with cover songs and many originals. Angelina also plays piano and guitar. The truth is that within a year or two she will be the artist for the big occasions. and not a "bare belly plastic artist" who tops a list for a week and is forgotten just as quickly. She already eats most female vocalists for breakfast, and the label Republic Records and the rest of the music industry know that too! Angelina Jordan has nothing to prove. There aren't words for this! "I Put a Spell On You" has been covered many times and is recognized as a classic, yet almost never is the tone of the original 1956 "Screamin" Jay Hawkins version captured. This is because Hawkins was the original shock rock guy (think Ozzy Osbourne-type craziness) and his style is difficult to emulate and also because his dated delivery is uncomfortable and stereotypical to our modern sensibilities. Yet Angelina respectfully sings his own song in a manner that exceeds his (Hawkin's image is on the candle she holds at the start of her video). You must go and listen to Hawkins' original (and throw in a couple of "famous" covers as well) to see the true genius in how AJ incorporates many of his vocal elements [usually omitted by most singers]. Angelina sings in 5 languages, designs her own clothes, and becomes the youngest author of a book in Norway that explains why she sings with no shoes, like her name, she truly is an angel with a heart of gold. Angelina won Norway's Got Talent when she was 7 years old (these are her words but she started at 7 years old and won at 8 years old) Her younger years before age 13 she was watched over by her mother and her Uncle who is also Angelina's manager who just wanted her to grow up normal. Her mother and uncle Turned down almost 90% of all requests for her to perform but even so from age 7years to 12 years old or so, she has been all over the world (Mother never more than a breath away) most of this was in support of children needs funding. New people to Angelina get sucked down this rabbit hole of not believing what they're hearing her excellent vocals and unique way of singing, Angelina is a master at music structure her ability to show absolute recognition to a cover while she makes it her own. Angelina's mother is Norwegian, and her father is from Sweeden The grandmother on her mother's side is from Iran (a prodigy in her own right) and her grandfather (recently deceased) is from Japan both grandparents are very involved with Angelina growing up, Angelina's original song a million miles is about losing her grandfather. Angelina is now 17 and lives in LA and just starting her commercial career with a tour of Norway and a new album for the fall of 23. I'm sure she will dominate the world market.

She made all arrangement of the song (writing last notes before take giving it to band-leader). She won NGT 2014 at age 7/8 and i voted for her win there (46% of all votes given in the final). I've listened to Angelina every day since I first heard her sing Bohemian Rhapsody on AGT Champions in January, 2020. She's the most talented and gifted singer I've ever heard.
She got her training from RU-vid videos, her other training was mostly in music theory, she is a natural because it runs in the family, her grandmother was a child prodigy in poetry and visual arts like painting. She not only performed this song, she arranged it and worked with the musicians for them to accompany her, everything here is Angelina, no one else produced this performance. That’s why she is a prodigy!
Angelina is a gift to all of us, of love, beauty, compassion, and her once-in-a-generation vocals. All this talent, and a heart to match. For me, she is the epitome of what we can be, should be, even if we couldn't sing a lick. I like her a lot. I wish we had more of her.

What’s great about your reaction is that you still have no idea how good Angelina is. This song is a one-off performance by Angelina-she never sang it like this again. She covers five or six genres beautifully, authentically. She’s 9 here, 17 now and her voice can be completely mesmerizing. Angelina is easily the best singer I’ve ever heard, and I’ve been listening since the 1950’s.
This performance isn't typical of Angelina , she was advised not to perform in that manner again for fear of damaging her voice , she took that advice but she has performed this song many times since , without the growl and scream whistle for lack a better description .
What makes this more shocking is that, at the time of this recording, she had no professional voice training - she’s simply a prodigy. Not only that, she’s not from a family of musicians. Tip of the iceberg. I've been watching every video she does twice a day for over four years now and even songs I wasn't fond of are now some of my most listened to. This young lady is on her own level above even most of the all-time greats.
For her recent concert in New Hampshire a fan organized an online fundraiser and Angelina was greeted backstage by 500 roses. That is how much we love her. As a role model for young girls she demonstrates the power of family, dedication, focus, self-belief and caring for others. The story of her decision to perform barefoot is simply amazing.
Maybe you fast forward to “Bohemian Rhapsody” AGT iconic song, and then the most recent her own “Now I’m the fool”, so you get a view of her capabilities. Then you step back to Norwegian Got Talent (and the studio record at 6 yr.) watching from where it all started. Then you have 200 more amazing songs to admire. You've just dipped your toe in this rabbithole. She entered Norway's got talent at age 7 and won it at age 8. People on here are going to want you to do her younger stuff first, but I'd suggest you do Reanna's stay, Adel's million years ago or queens bohemian rhapsody first. She was 12 to 13 in those three and they'll give you a true sense of her talent. Angelina was 9 years old in this performance - Her nationality is Norwegian but is fluent in English even at this age - This song was not arranged for her - she wrote the vocal arrangement based on listening to the original Screamin' Jay Hawkins version and communicated to the band how she wanted it to be played - in fact, at the beginning of the video you see Angelina writing down some last-minute changes and it is read by the bandleader. You also notice that her own handwritten notes are on the music stand in front of her as she sings. For more insight into how Angelina works, here is a rehearsal video with some of the same band members at the same age (9 yrs old) - You will see that she is aware of what each musician is doing and communicates to them what she wants to do. The first thing she says is that she wants to start, followed by her saying she wants to start over, later she tells the pianist that the key is too low and that she wants to raise it a half-tone, then at the end of the song she changes the ending on the fly. She is one of a kind. I have listened to so many different artists from many decades and including many different genres but I have never come across anyone who would be similar to her. There are influences from Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holliday, Elvis, Amy Winehouse, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston and Adele to name a few but if you listen to more what she has done, you will notice that she is a quite unique artist. And she is not just a singer. She makes her own arrangements and she has her own vision always about what she wants to do. A nice first reaction! Oh boy, you are going to be bombarded by her fans called Angels that will fill you in on this music prodigy with an old soul from Norway. She's basically been a star since she was 7 years old. First and foremost, she is a jazz singer but has the ability to sing any genre. She also does all of her own musical arrangements. Even though she has been compared by many to Amy Winehouse, her major influence is Billie Holiday. Other influences are Dinah Washington, Louis Armstrong, and Etta James to name a few. Her love of jazz came from her grandmother playing jazz music around her when she was young. In 2014, she entered at age 7 and won Norway's Got Talent at the age of 8. With her new found fame, she used it to appear on many shows from abroad and help raise millions for the less fortunate children around the world. At age 13, she was invited to participate on America's Got Talent: The Champions in 2020. She shocked the audience and the judges with her rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. She received a standing ovation from all and got the Golden Buzzer from judge Heidi Klum to go straight to the Finals. Her performance went viral and even the group Queen responded on Twitter by saying, " Wow, what a rendition!" For Queen to respond to someone covering one of their songs is quite a feat since they rarely react to anyone . Not only that, but she received the copyrights for her version of this song from Queen, which makes it hers now. She did not win, but her fan base grew and expanded her popularity. Now 17 years old, living in Los Angeles, and currently signed with Republic Records, whose clients include Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, and Drake to name a few. Her family and Republic Records had agreed not to heavily promote her just yet so she can live as normal of a life as possible and finish her schooling. From what we know, she is finally done with school. Angelina just recently released her new single, Our Time, and is fantastic! She returned back to Norway and performed at a number of sold out concerts in which fans from around the world came to see her. Many of the fans there said she sounded better live in person and was a once in a lifetime experience. On September 22, 2023, Angelina had her first U.S. concert that sold out in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Her fans call her The Barefoot Princess. She always performs with no shoes when she sings. Why? The reason is very special. When she was 6 years old, she was traveling with her family in Iran where she met a poor shoeless girl in the streets that was about her age. She made money by weighing people. After speaking with her for a few minutes, Angelina noticed the scars on the girl's feet and asked the girl what her dream is. The girl said she wanted to be a doctor but she couldn't because she had to make money for her family. Angelina did what came natural to her, she gave the little girl her shoes and told her to not give up on her dreams. The girl then asked Angelina what her dreams were, Angelina answered that she wanted to be a superstar, and the girl said she would pray for her success. Thank you for featuring Angelina on your channel. I hope you will do many more reactions to her, as she is well worth every nanosecond you spend on her. I have watched and listened to her in awe since she released her first video on RU-vid, and what has been evident to me from the start is that she sings with total conviction, despite the fact that she is far too young to have experienced the events suggested in the lyrics of the song she has chosen to sing. But it is not only that, for strange as it may seem is the even more remarkable fact that she can convey the appropriate emotions within those lyrics to her listener. This is Angelina's tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, who wrote and performed the song in 1956 (50 years before Angelina was born). She based her arrangement on his original performance, although she discarded all the theatrics and allowed her voice and body language to tell the story. The song has been covered by many singers over the years, but to my knowledge, Angelina is the only one who has sung in the same style as the original. There are many things I found particularly worthy of note in this video. Some I recognised immediately and those I missed were brought to my attention by the more observant Angelina fans (her Angels) and I thank them for letting me know what I had missed. Another Angelina "Angel" has pointed out something else which I had missed, and it is added at (l) below, (a) Angelina finishing writing last minute changes she wanted and handing them to the Music Director, who smiled. (b) A brief glimpse of Mery Zamani, Angelina's maternal grandmother, a well known and respected Iranian Artist and poet who was also a child prodigy. She was the person who recognised Angelina's talent at an early age and exposed her to all the old time jazz singers. (c) The candle with an image of Screamin' Jay Hawkins on it. (d) The smile on the face of the Bass player. (e) How she rose on to her toes on the last occasion she sang "...because you're mine" (f) The fact she occasionally refers to her written notes on the music stand. Possibly to remind herself of the last minute changes she wanted. (g) Her unwavering passion throughout the performance. Evidenced by her facial expressions and the way she uses her hands and body to emphasise the direction of the song. (h) The way she takes a breath just before she starts the last phrase (I don't care.....) and that breath lasts the whole of that sustained note. A child of that age should not have the ability to hold a note for that length of time. (i) At the end, when she sings I Doooont Caaaaare, she employs TWO separate and distinct vibratos to the word care, a wide one to start the word and a tighter one to close the word (j) The instant transformation from "performance" mode to that of a pensive child, possibly wondering whether she could have done better. I comment on the "pensive" child because Angelina has an incredible work ethic and seeks to perform every song in a way she considers will bring out all the emotions within the lyrics and melody. (k) Perhaps the most remarkable is that despite her tender years, she sings with such total conviction that her authenticity is never in doubt. It is easy to believe that she has experienced the events described in the lyrics. It is not only her voice that is mesmerising, it is also her facial expressions, and the way she uses her hands and body. Her stage presence is electrifying. (l) The performance absolutely is powerful and raw but to me, I am amazed that this is balanced by the profound beauty of the ending phrase; the last twelve words of the song. AND… they are essentially sung a cappella! Angelina has been referred to as the "Queen of Jazz", "The Barefoot Princess", "The girl with a thousand voices". All of them are true, but I prefer the nickname I gave her after listening to about six of her performances. For me, she is "The Chameleon of Song", for as a chameleon is able to change its colour to match its surroundings, so Angelina is able to change the "colour" of her voice to accurately match the needs of the song to reveal the emotions within the lyrics and melody. Even more remarkable is her innate ability to communicate those same emotions to her listeners.

Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman. Angelina started singing around 18 months of age, after listening to Whitney Houston on RU-vid. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was a prodigy as an artist and poet while growing up in Iran. Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where starting around age 4, she had training in music but no vocal training. Her teachers were smart enough to not attempt to change what she was doing vocally. More recently she along with her grandmother have designed and made the clothing she wears on stage. Why Angelina always performs barefoot At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true. Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East. At age 7, Angelina’s audition on Norway’s Got Talent, was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried. Angelina had turned 8 years old for her next performance on NGT, covering Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. This was the Judge’s cut round of the competition and was not performed in front of an audience. In the Semi Final round of NGT, Angelina sang “Bang Bang” which was written by Sonny Bono and was first performed by his wife Cher but is best known sung by Nancy Sinatra. The improvement in each performance is incredible even though there were only a couple months between them. In the Finals, Angelina did a cover of George Gershwin’s, “Summertime” and won the contest, capturing 46% of the votes from the ten finalists. When asked what she would like to do with the prize money she won (500,000 kroner or about $80,000), Angelina replied, “I want to give it to the poor children”. Angelina had become a star in her native Norway and her videos on RU-vid went viral. She gave a few concerts during the summer of 2014 while 8 years old. During 2018, Angelina lost her paternal grandfather, her friend Avicii and one of her idols, Aretha Franklin. She did a moving tribute for each. In 2019, Angelina accepted an invitation to compete in the 2nd season of America’s Got Talent (AGT), The Champions. She had, since age 3, wanted to perform for Simon Cowell and she earned his praise with her genius arrangement of “Bohemian Rhapsody”. The surviving members of Queen loved it so much they put a link to it on their Twitter. Angelina was eliminated after covering Elton John’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”. Angelina’s family refused to sign any agreement with AGT. Angelina, before age 14, had covered more than 130 songs from 80 different artists, spanning at least 8 genres, all of which are available on RU-vid. Angelina has always made changes to each song she covers and often her version is preferred over the original. The pandemic hit shortly after her performances on AGT and likely caused a change of plans by her family, most notably her Uncle Michael who is her manager. Her family agreed to a contract with Republic Records in August 2020. Republic Records declared Angelina Jordan their highest priority new artist. Reportedly her family requested Republic to allow her as normal a childhood as possible and therefore have yet to fully promote her. During the pandemic, Angelina was often seen buying meals for the homeless on the streets of Los Angeles. In November 2020, Angelina released “Million Miles” which she wrote after the passing of her beloved maternal grandfather. She dedicated the song to anyone who has ever lost a loved one. Angelina had previously released, 3 other original songs: “What is Life”, “Oslo” and “Shield” In April 2021, her original “7th Heaven” was released. A jazzy, danceable, inspiring song. In December 2022, Angelina performed at the Asian American Awards in Los Angeles. On 2/27/23, Angelina performed at the FIFA Awards ceremony in Paris, France, with a viewing audience in the millions. On May 5th, 2023, Angelina released her original "Love Don't Let Me Go". On July 23th she released her orginal EP “Old Enough”. Angelina perform Concert at the Music Hall in Portsmouth New Hampshire on Sept 22nd, 2023. It Was a great concert, who was not and could regret it, a big mistake.

A lengthy article from December of that same year went into more detail (translated from the original Norwegian): "Oslo, an evening in July 2007: One and a half year-old Angelina is at home with the babysitter. Her mother, Sara Astar, lets herself in and nearly goes into shock when she peeks into the bedroom. In bed sits her daughter mumble-singing Whitney Houston's 'I Will Always Love You.' It sounds so nice, Sara thinks, and senses something more in her daughter's voice. A peculiarity she fails to define there and then." I've always been somewhat reluctant to point new AJ reacters to that video, because it contains clips of other things that they should really react to the full versions of. Until very recently, there hasn't been a standalone video containing just baby Angelina singing. About 2 weeks ago, though, a much longer version was posted to TikTok. Seeing the full context of her first-ever "command performance" makes what she's doing seem (perhaps) a little more "normal" than the short clip did - for example, you can see that she was getting "prompted" by her mother a lot (not grandmother, as stated in the video title), as she tried to get her daughter to repeat for the camera what she had been doing before. But you can also see that Angelina recognizes certain points in the song just from hearing the chord changes in the music (in particular, when she first sings the line beginning "And I hope…"). Similarly, she keeps on returning to the title line over and over at the wrong moments, which you might expect a very young singer to do. But then, when she does sing that line, she is not yelling at the top of her lungs, as young singers are wont to do with big, belty moments in their favorite songs. The whole "performance" (what there is of it) remains surprisingly subtle throughout. Not to mention surprisingly on-key. (I'd say that baby Angelina is doing at least as good a job at that as her 23-year-old mother.😊) And notice how at the end (just before she puts the mic down and signals that she is finished), she is singing the title line with a different rhythm and melody than earlier in the song, which is appropriate. She clearly was already very familiar with the song when she did this. Finally, I'd like to highlight how she shakes her head as she sings at certain key points, as if she really understands what she's singing about. I don't think she _did_ have more than a rudimentary understanding of some of the words, but she sure looks like she did (at times).
I've been a music fan since the 60's, but I had never seen/heard anything like Angelina when I stumbled on her nearly 6 years ago when she was 12 yo & had just moved from Norway to LA where she currently resides. I see the other "Angels" have filled you in with her backstory, so I will just like & subscribe for your discovery journey of Angelina & I predict in 5 years she will be a "household name" around the World. Why does Angelina sing barefooted? Angelina Jordan is known as "The Barefoot Princess" or "The Barefoot Princess of Jazz," amongst many other names. She always performs barefooted, whether in front of a live audience or during a studio performance. The story is that while living in the Middle East, at 6 years old, Angelina came across an orphaned girl, of her own age, sitting in the street, weighing people on a bathroom scale to earn money. Angelina said to herself, "I would like to share her life for one second to know what it is like to sit alone, wet, and damp, and barefoot in a corner of the street." Angelina could see the girl's bare feet were scarred and that it was cold outside, so she offered her own shoes to the girl. Little Angelina says that she really loved her shoes, as they were very nice and she knew she would miss them. But she saw the other little girl’s need for them, which outweighed her own desire to keep them. So she insisted the little girl take them. Angelina called her Princess, even though the girl said she didn't live in a castle, but the ruins of a building next to where she sat. After sharing their hopes and dreams, the little girl said of Angelina's wish to sing for the world, "You will become the one you dream of and when your dreams come true, you have to remember the poor children without shoes; and I will pray for you Angelina.” Later that day, 6 y/o Angelina wrote in her diary, "The world is very strange. Right then and there, I felt as if a door in my heart opened up, and it was filled with lots of lights. It was as if there was, from Earth to Heaven, a staircase. I climbed the stairs. To be able to do something for another human - it was such a big thing…hard to describe really.” From that point on, Angelina takes off her shoes, in honor of ‘Princess’ and all the other less fortunate children of the world, who are orphaned, hungry, or in want of even basic clothing. In 2015, at the age of 9, Angelina wrote a book about the encounter, as everyone continued to ask why she sang barefoot. Her grandmother, Mery Zamani, created the artwork for the book. So at 9, Angelina Jordan became the youngest published author in Norway. Today she is 17 years old, (she will turn 18 on January 10th) and I have already for a couple of years considered her to be the best female singer in world. That's a very subjective opinion, but one that I know that I share with a LOT of other people as well. I have been following her ever since she auditioned on a Norwegian talent show when she was 7 years old, a competition that she won. By that time she had just turned 8. I have just read every comment below and can say with conviction that every commentator here has likely drastically held back their feelings about Angelina so as not to overwhelm you with their love and positivity of her. You have heard about the 500 roses given to Angelina at Portsmouth; I can tell you that I am the originator of that rose drive. After deciding I wanted to do this, I contacted a florist in Portsmouth and the theater, then gave the marketing job to James Theil who did an amazing job putting it all together. Angelina was near her 9th birthday when she created her arrangement for the 1956 Screamin Jay Hawkins classic. She took control of the studio and musicians to deliver a sassy, powerful performance. Angelina taught herself to sing. She did start getting musical training at age 4 but her teachers were smart enough to not do anything with her vocals. The only things which exceed her musical talents are her humility and empathy. *Why Angelina always performs barefoot* At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true. Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate.
