A "Griot" is the elder in an African tribe that passes down the history of the tribe to the younger people so they know who they are. Arrested Development would bring the Griot on stage and he'd do the traditional dances and chants as he did in this video at the end.

Such a powerful track, I drop this in my DJ set all the time! The chorus is from Sly & the Family Stone (powerhouse 60's anthem btw), however Arrested Development didn't sample it, they covered it and sang it live - something very rare esp for the 90's era. This track was HUGE influence for the Fugees sound too!

It's only sampling when you take part of the recording and insert it into your own track. In this case Arrested Development cover Sly by actually singing the song. So officially its not a sample
