This stripped down version was done for a Norwegian radio station. Artists are given a song and have half and hour (or some equally insanely short priod of time) to make it their own. This is what Aurora produced. Stunning rendition.
Wow that’s amazing! I truly thought this was just a cover they’d rehearsed and decided to play on the show. Didn’t realize it was a challenge. That makes this even more amazing. The fact that it’s so engaging, sounds like it’s a studio produced version, and it’s all so completely Aurora. It’s so hard to take someone else’s work and make it your own. To do so in such a short time and succeed is nothing short of just incredible. She will never disappoint.
@@moni13000 Its even more amazing because for decades Boney M repeatedly blocked attempts to cover this song. So this is I believe just about the only cover and it really is stunning.
This is a super stripped down "unplugged" cover of Rasputin, originally by Boney M. The original is a disco hit and is possibly one of the groups most listened to songs.
In the modern times, Rasputin is definitely their most popular. At the time of release, I think Sunny was their biggest hit. Those two along with Ma Baker and maybe Daddy Cool would all make for good reactions.
I think that AURORA has a tremendous ability to instantly understand the intrinsic elements in a musical composition and to make the most of them in her own inimitable style. I really like her ability to pull you in and go into storytelling mode, whether it's one of her own pieces or a cover.
Aurora’s voice is much more delicate, lacey, and lilting than Dolly’s voice. While they both share an innocent, and pure quality to their singing, and deep wisdom that suggests a lot of life experience. Dolly possesses more of a powerful belting voice, that she is not afraid to use. I love them both. There's plenty of room for great talented performers in our musical world.
Artists are regularly invited to NRK P3 to play one original song as well as a cover that NRK P3 chooses, the artists get to know which song they will cover an hour before broadcast. Considering the short time to practice, the result is absolutely brilliant! NRK P3 is a music channel under NRK - Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation
Great reaction! Apparently, this cover was arranged and put togther in less than 30mins as part of a radio show. Impressive! For more Aurora, I'd checkout Cure For Me or Heathens (Recent stuff), Teardrop or Famous Blue Raincoat (Covers) or Helvegen (Wardruna Ft Aurora - Norwegian folk)
Yes, folk music! She grew up listening to Leonard Cohen (who she quotes in Exist for Love "reaching out for love etc.) and Bob Dylan. Her Cohen covers (e.g. Famous Blue Raincoat) are worth listening to, but so is her cover of God is a Woman and Life on Mars. And so many more including Tear Drop by Massive Attack. Then there's the collab singing Viking (folk) music with Wardruna.
that coverversion is so much different to the original in behalf of interpretation ..mind blowing. It even becomes depth because the original is a very light minded 70ty disco song. Interpretation can do miracles.
Gonna be honest, when I first heard this I never once thought Dolly Parton. But after mentioned it I can totally understand what you meant. Something about the strumming of the acoustic guitar and her sweet, light voice definitely gives some Dolly vibes here.
I think to get an appreciation for what she did here, you should listen to the original. Not for a reaction, but just for a comparison. What she did is actually kinda hilarious, as well as her typical style of amazing.
Absolutely a great cover. The original was faster and disco type genre. It did come out in late 70's if I remember correctly. I never really understood the lyrics in Bony M version. Aurora's delivery made the song new and I actually like her version better! Great request and reaction. More please! Luckily lots of Aurora to choose from! Great day all! 💕💕💕🇨🇦
Cure for Me is way different in my opinion...but I think she would sing Jolene completely different as her cover songs are completely changed from the original
I've got goose bumps listen to that. Aurora has such an amazing voice and style. Also, I really adore the Jolene Cover from Miley Cyrus in the Backyard Sessions. Not sure anyone could top that.
Never thought to make the Dolly Parton comparison....but yeah, you're not wrong. I can hear it! It's a mix of her clear bell-like tone and the sorta jaunty delivery delivered with a wink. Also, I was born in NE Tennessee...and somehow ended up back here. And as frustrating as this state can be(highest per-capita Trump vote in 2016 for instance), we're also ridiculously proud that this state produced one Dolly Parton lol..
“Everything matters” by Aurora Featuring Pomme (French artist). Listen to the live video on RU-vid. It’s amazing and you get to meet a second fantastic artist with a gorgeous voice. Please please please
“It happened Quiet” live is about suicide I think and one of the few songs I think that aren’t clearly super uplifting but damn does it tell the truth about love. That love is wild.
Although this may or may not be a true shanty, if you want to hear a really good one that is somewhat similar to this, you should react to The Parting Glass by The Longest John's feat. @ Natalie Holmes. Also, a singer's voice that is just as haunting but in a good way that you should also react to is Mazzi Star: Fade Into You- 10/2/1994- Shoreline Amphitheater. In my opinion, I think our tastes in music are quite similar and I think you will thoroughly enjoy both of these not to mention I'd be honored to see your reaction to my suggestions.
If you like the vibe this song gives i'd say check out Of Monsters and Men, Little Talks is their big radio hit but i'd personally love to see you react to something like Mountain Sound especially if you like live renditions.
Also....the Dolly connection is interesting cuz this song, at least _this_ version by Aurora and her band, kinda DOES sound like "Jolene." Maybe especially the White Stripes famous cover of it. It's the hammer-on guitar figure....and the underlying chords....and even the arc of her vocal melody. It's not that dissimilar to Jolene actually. I feel like you were definitely picking up on that!
To me the best live performance is this one, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-16y1AkoZkmQ.html, and it has 267 million views so others agree as well. Hope you'll react to it!
No no no NOOOOOOO....... Get thee hence to Boney M original cut..... . In fact, You need to hear the Nightflight to Venus / Rasputin medley from the nightflight to Venus album. This is not a song for the strip down folk singer version....
Naah ... I like AURORA's version better -- it brilliantly highlights folk elements hidden in the original. I have to say in all fairness that I do actually enjoy the over-the-top 1970's Boney M live performance of RASPUTIN, but it's come and gone. Aurora resurrects it from the bin of forgotten musical lore.
I think there's an intentional dichotomy here, because the song just isn't deep enough for this kind for treatment. It really needs the full disco package to deliver. Like, I really liked this version, but I would never intentionally listen to it again. Whereas the original is easy to repeat, because it's so trite and shallow.
Thumbs up for your reaction, but this cover...Is terrible, singing it this way strips the song of its impact. I was kind of disappointed you talk about the artist and her voice, but not the lyrics, Rasputin was a real and fascinating And was looking foreword to your thoughts on him.
