Just about everybody has recorded this song by now--from Barry Manilow to Jennifer Hudson--but nobody even touches this version of it. It's a flawless performance.

This is the theme song from " Cats" the Broadway musical and movie by Andrew Lloyd Weber composer. Streisand is GOAT and cannot be compared to any other female singer in the world. Her shows are sold out before they become available and tickets are astronomical. Actor, singer, producer, director, the recipient of numerous numerous awards including Oscar's, Grammy, Tony's, Presidential and many more .... she is a native New Yorker fom Brooklyn and an alumni of Erasmus High School. Barbs is a legend.

This is a recording from November 1981; it is the first pop recording of this song from "Cats," which had only opened in the UK at this time. A stunning piece of work that once again shows she is the best female pop singer. Ever.

So glad that you discovered the joy of listening to Barbra Streisand. There are many reasons why she is so great that have to do with her voice. The tone, the clarity, the flexibility, the vibrato, the warmth, etc. What sets her apart from so many others is her ability to make the song the star. She has often said that the singer serves the song not the other way around. The singers responsibility is to understand what this song is about, what each line is meant to convey, the emotion behind every word and every note, and then deliver it to the listener as a complete piece. She never over sings or throws in meaningless runs just to show off her voice like so many do today. While she can belt like no other, she never makes song choices without a purpose. Once you understand her approach, it’s so easy to see why you get lost in her music. I had the great good fortune of seeing her live in concert in the early 2000s after being a lifelong fan. I thought my heart was going to burst when she came out on the stage. I was so thrilled to see her as I thought I would never have the opportunity. It was my number one bucket list item. Welcome to the party and don’t stop your exploration of her catalog. You will be astounded. 😊

Streisand just released her first album which debuted at #8 this week. (Whaaat? 🤔). Well it was almost her first album. In November 1962 a 19 year-old Barbra was recorded by Columbia records performing in a Greenwich Village basement nightclub. Columbia planned for "Live at the Bon Soir" to be her debut album but ultimately decided to release a studio recording. ("The Barbra Streisand Album" would win Album of the Year at the Grammys in 1962). Now, 60 years later we finally get to hear Barbra's first album. 😊

Memory was on her Broadway Album and if you listen to the 1st song on the album, she was told by multiple people not to do the album it would not sell, so she put them telling her in the song and the album exceeded all sales expectations. Listen to Send in the Clowns, which was originally made a hit by Judy Collins and if you listen to Judy Collin's version the line "Don't bother there here" is in the middle of the song and Barbra reached out to the writer and asked him to put that at the end where it belongs, which he did. Then listen to her version, you will hear it at the end. That's the influence that Barbra has in the industry.

@@Lifewithstan2020 Hey Stan, "Sweet Inspiration/Where You Lead" is a duet with Ray Charles live from a TV special she did in 1973. (I heard you think it: "Streisand and Ray Charles?" Trust me on this one. 💯 confident. Just remember I told you so! 😊All of the above though are excellent suggestions...To hear her versatility, I one of her rock numbers: "Prisoner". Although...One Less Bell To Answer/A House Is Not A Home" ...is killer, too...OK. They all slay. I can't decide! 🤭

Her catalog is vast and there are major gems spread over all 60 years of her career. There is an awesome video from her 1968 free concert in Central Park (which was filmed and shown as a TV special "A Happening in Central Park") where she performs "He Touched Me" that is simply breathtaking but that's true of most of her performances. "The Way We Were" which was the theme song for one of her monster hit movies in the 70's is beautiful as well and was an enormous #1 hit for her.

Definitely she's in a league of her own. The best of the best! I dug her incredible voice back in 65, yes 65 shes singing a long time with her song People. Since yr a fan of Neil Diamond he had many good songs mid 60s to early 70s. Some are Cherry Cherry, You got to Me, Holly Holy. Shilo, Red Red Wine.

It's nice to see your appreciation for Streisand. I think it's hard for most people who listen to specific genres and current music to appreciate singers from other generations and genres. I, myself, didn't truly get Judy Garland (who Babs sang with a few times, I think), but am starting to understand her incredible talent. You should try the Main Event by Barbara.

Just love your reactions to the GOAT, and you're right, you've only just scratched the surface. Would be awesome to see Barbra in concert again (I was fortunate enough to see her three times), but alas, I doubt that will happen again. There are several of her live concerts from the last 25 years however on DVD (and her latest from 2019 on Netflix) you will thoroughly enjoy, starting back from 1994 when Barbra decided to come back to the live stage after being away from it for 27 years, mostly due to stage fright. Here is the opening number to that first performance at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas in 1994. The words were slightly adjusted from the original "Sunset Boulevard" version, to fit the theme to Barbra's momentous return to the stage. Enjoy! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-42SANt4qCl8.html

Go back in time for the best Barbra. The thing is she is from Broadway and she made several musicals and movies. So many of her best known are from her movies. And sometimes she is singing in the movie but you don't see her so the people who don't know her voice may not realize it's her. The MAIN EVENT is an example of a Barbra movie where she sings the title song.

Barbra is wonderful. React to her singing "The Way We Were" from the movie of the same name. The movie is great too. Patti LaBelle singing "If You Asked Me To" is one of my favorite songs of anyone! React to Patti (get the original video). And her singing a duo "On My Own" with Michael McDonald isn't shabby either. New subbie.
