Barry Manilow rewrote the song. It was a rock song named Brandy and it was about a dog. Barry turned it into a love song. I've been a fan since I was 9 or 10. The song came out in 1975. But Barry had another album in 1973. It didn't do so good, but that is when I found him.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🎵🎼🎶🎹
I wasn’t a fan, my wife was...so I got concert tickets. Best performance I ever saw. Great song and reaction, thank you. My fav of his is Read Em And Weep...
@@sharonmartinez4320 I love that he didn't belittle your music, as some significant others would and have, he simply said it made you happy and that's reason enough. ❤️
This man has an amazing voice! I literally love everything he sings. Only person I've ever heard of that has been in the business for over 4 decades and I can't remember a single derogatory thing ever said about him.
There was always rumors about him being gay, but he never officially came out until just a couple of years ago. Women didn't care. They all loved him my mom had a huge crush on him!
Dancing in my dinning room as I listen to this on an 8 track. My mom had the greatest stereo made it easy to rock the house. Kiss, Meatloaf, Queen, Cheap Trick...
Because you love the instrumentation, what you need to understand about Barry Manilow is that he writes ALL of his orchestral arrangements. Mandy was his first #1 his from 1974. Barry has enjoyed a nearly 50 year career not only because he is a great singer who connects with his audience but because of his superb musicianship and being a consummate showman.
I feel the same as you it keeps playing in my mind thats what i love about the 70s and 80s music was very deep a lot of feeling and emotional beautiful song
Mandy was based on a song called BRANDY by Scott English. BRANDY was a huge a hit in England. When it was given to Barry, several times in concert he accidentally sang Brandy LOL. Many times reporters asked the ORIGINAL singer, Scott English, who Brandy was...He got so tired of reporters he said "it's about my dog"...That is what leads people to believe Mandy is about Barry Manilow's dog LOL
please continue the deep dive into Barry's music you won't regret it. The master of so many musical styles it'll surprise you. Barry was a jingle writer and this was his background he knew how to develop a hook. Never considered himself a singer but rather an arranger and producer who sings. The strength lies in the ability to take any song and make it his own as Mandy was a cover of an earlier Scott English hit. If you want to hear the whole package Barry as songwriter and singer and arranger listen to Could it Be magic or One voice or let freedom ring.
Barry Manilow is a legend in the music business with a string of hits. Copacabana, I Write The Songs, Looks Like We Made It, Even Now, and the list goes on. Mandy was 1974. He’s got a list of awards. He wrote many commercials like the Pepsi song.
They are catchy because they have melody ... not just talking to sound the same as any other song .... anyone can talk through a song but you must have a good voice to sing it ..
Great reaction, you are listening to the master! Rolling Stone Magazine called him the entertainer of our generation! Watch any of his live performances - they are fantastic! I am a true Fanilow , have seen him 50 times in concert! This was his first hit came out in 1974. The older music is better bc better singers, songs have a melody with lyrics. He is called the King of Easy Listening - has had more hits on the Easy Listening charts than any other artist!!
And I grew up with this song playing in the background a lot. Wow that really took me back that was some nostalgic right there wow I got flashed back to the 70s and 80s, and my life is much simpler thanks for the upload.
I love this song!!!! It was my 6th grade graduation song. Great singer/song writer. Weekend in New England is a haunting song. PS. Are you crying over the Buckeyes, too?
"Somewhere in the Night", "It's a Miracle", "Trying To Get The Feeling", "Even Now", "Daybreak" "NYC Rhythm", "Can't Smile Without You" "This One's For You", "Weekend In New England" + all the others in the comments. He sold out every show in Vegas for years!
My friend loved Barry growing up. I loved Andy Gibb so she started singing this to me and just called me Andy - i changed the spelling to andie and I've gone by that since 7th grade. I'm 53 now 😊
Mandy was released in 74 I think. Clive Davis was the man behind the scenes with this artist and others like Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Earth Wind and Fire, Alicia Keys.
I'm a totally straight man but I have to say you've got some great guns and pecks....and you like Barry Manilow so that's a real plus. 😀 Thanks for your reaction.
Actually this song is a remake of a British song called Brandy - he slowed it done , arranged it differently & called it Mandy because there was a hit song in the US called Brandy Your a Fine Girl & didn’t want his song confused with that one!
lol Barry Manilow is 6 foot even. I've met him many times. he's very skinny and it makes him seem taller. he also used to wear boots will heels on them
Please also listen to Jimmy Castor's instrumental version of this classic: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-e8a4vtxhkMU.html. (You should also review Jimmy Castor at some point, who also gave us the instrumentals "The First Time I Saw Your Face", "You Make Me feel Brand New" and "Didn't I Blow Your Mind"/All In Love Is Fair" as well as the funk hits "It's Just Begun", "Potential, ":King Kong" and "E Man Boogie."
