I don't know why but my fav line in that track is 'What's up with your bad breath onion rings'...gets me every time 😂 ...and yes please, more B Boy reactions so much more to do✌️
I'm from the East Village in NYC - where they are shouting out in this song - and the day MCA passed away the bar down the street projected this and some other Beastie Videos on the wall of the building across the street. It was a moment. They were just spontaneously deciding to pay tribute to these guys, it both broke my heart and made me happy that they're still so loved... as they should be. They were truly genius. There's a live concert from Amsterdam in 2004 and it's just outstanding.. definitely not to be missed.
This song is the epitome of a banger. One of many perfect Beastie Boys tracks, from their greatest album "Paul's Boutique", a sampling masterpiece. Keep the Beastie Boys marathon coming! Check out "Looking Down the Barrel of a Gun"
100% do Shadrach and yes like Shadrach Meshach and Abednego. Its a good song the BB use Shadrach M and A as a metaphor for their journey up to that point.
You need to go in for the long haul and go with B-Boy Bouillabaisse at the tail end of Paul's Boutique. There is a lot there to unpack. There will never be another album like Paul's Boutique with all the sampling they do it'd be cost prohibitive in today's world.
Philly and Jersey? Young man, if you haven’t dived into the 90s catalog of The Roots and Redman, you are missing critical historical dopeness It’s amazing to think this BBoys track came out in 1989. Still sounds so fresh today, so far ahead of its time!! 🔥
These guys were visionary's of the best kind - what a life! The one thing that is impossible to understand if you didn't live through it is all their current events mentioned, not that the song can't be loved but these guys sampled and referenced history like no others!
manhattan.. the "village" as in greenwich- being from philly too i would have known if they said that- man i think you forgot to take your adhd meds before this one don't forget- product of the environment video- 3rd bass and shadrach with the video is pretty cool too it's a painted video brought to life
This album, Paul’s Boutique was their follow up to License to Ill and was so different it actually wasn’t received anywhere near the level they expected. If they didn’t have a contract for a third album they would have fell off and they spent all their money making it. They ended up isolating themselves in a band room and cemented themselves in music with their third album. Many true fans consider Paul’s Boutique to be one of their best. Awesome reaction.
Sure Shot should me next. And check out Beck, he mixes folk punk with hip hop beats and nonsensical lyrics. The Dust Brothers produced his album Odelay, they also did the Beastie Boys album Shake Your Rump came from, Paul’s Boutique. That album is considered the height of the sampling era.
So idk if you have but watch “fight for your right” 1986 release. (You’ve prob heard that song) but right after you should watch “make some noise” 2011 release (the entire 30 min video). I think you’d enjoy and it would make a good video
Philly rap to react to: Cool C - The Glamorous Life, 3XDope - Funky Dividends, Krown Rulers - Kick The Ball, Cash Money & Marvelous - Ugly People Be Quiet, Bahamadia - True Honey Buns
