I have no "music knowledge" at all, I just love hip hop. So it's cool to see people from "other genres" analyzing the music in hip hop, that's rarely done. I like it.

Hey guys. Good honest review & reaction here. About the whole Gat thing? I believe the term "Gat" refers to just simply a handgun. I believe it actually derives from the old 1800 to early 1900's "gatling gun" but of course gatling guns were not handguns. Somehow, lost in the translation, the urban inner city rap culture (or gang culture) decided to shorten the actual word of "gatling" to "GAT" to make it more digestible to the streets. I guess that's why you hear so many rappers refer to their "guns" as "gats" because old western classic "shoot em up" cowboys & indians Hollywood movies sometimes used "gatling guns" during shootouts. But like I said, somehow over time it was translated & interpreted to mean a "handgun" on the streets.
Oh no) U choose the most POP sort of speak song that he had) There's a lot of them that 10 times harder and has shock value, and this one is just a represent on a radio))
Big L is one of my favourite rappers out there and its so cool seeing you guys like his stuff but tbh I think you guys are looking at the wrong part of 90's rap. since you guys are clearly more musical you should try listening to the Pharcyde. their song "runnin" is super famous for having one of the best beats from one of the best producers in hip hop and their song "otha fish" is full of all of those super weird rap techniques that you don't really hear in any other genre (kind of what you guys were talking about). so to sum up listen to "runnin" for famous hip hop production or listen to "otha fish" for cool rapping (kind of early sing rap) also "passin me by" is a super worth it listen.
A GAT is the abbreviated word of a Gatling gun. Normally you'll see the gatling machine gun attached on Fighter Jets and Boats. Nowadays the Gat/Gatling is synonymous with any ordinary gun, revolver, shot gun etc in today's lingo. However a Gat is. GATLING machine gun
Love the reaction! And thanks for trying something different on this channel You should try listening to: Feathers (feat. Cise Starr & Akin From CYNE A bit softer than Big L, but still hip hop.
As someone that grew up listening to WuTang, and was once a big fan, they are extremely overrated 😅 nothing after their first albums was good. 😂😂 once they did gravel pit they became laughable to me.
Definitely my least favourite Big L track. It's alright, but it's mad boring compared to pretty much every other track from the album. It's the single, so that kinda explains why.
L is a lyrical mastermind. A suggestion for you guys would be "Wesley's Theory" By Kendrick Lamar. One of the most interesting compositions I've heard and sounds amazing.
Your video title has the words in the song title transposed ("Put On It" instead of "Put It On"). Maybe that was intentional for some YT reason, but if not, I just thought I'd be annoying and point it out. 😛
Highly recommended the roots first 3 albums. Only rap group that plays their own instruments. The first 2 albums are heavily influenced by jazz and scat music. Questlove the drummer is an amazing composer.
