Billy is my nephew and I enjoyed hearing your reaction to him. He has overcame drugs and lcohol. He sings much about that in other songs. They gave you the very old version of this to listen to. Iyou want to see this song i its true form, listen to the one at the Grand Ol’ Opry. Thanks for highlighting Billy.
Awesome to see a relative here, much respect. I think the reason people enjoy this version is because of how raw it is. It's like seeing Elvis play his hits and shocking his friends before he got big. I showed my dad this too. He's an old school Pennsylvanian and bluegrass fan and he is hard to please. I showed him this and he thought another bluegrass artist from the early 20th century was resurrected.
Fellas this man is a legend and a timeless classic this world could turn into a black hole but them devil’s in hell will always be sangin about 20 long years for some dust in a baggie hallelujah amen brothah
He is more what they call Americana now...and he is truly all that. And I love what you do...I always feel closer to the Lord because you remind me what we need...and America needs it RIGHT NOW!!! You wont see this in all likelihood but I just needed to say it
Thanks for reacting to my favorite new artist, Billy Strings! Next you should check out Turmoil and Tinfoil live from Music City Roots. Other great songs include Away From the Mire, Heartbeat of America, Watch It Fall, Wargasm, Meet Me at the Creek and Red Daisy. Billy and his band are currently touring, doing over 200 live shows per year and each performance is different. Unlike other artists he encourages fans to record and share his performances so you can find lots of those along with official recordings on RU-vid.
I just discovered Billy Strings last year. I really enjoy his bluegrass country style. He is a very good guitarist. Love the instruments that his touring band uses banjo, upright bass & mandolin. The first song I heard was "Turmoil & Tinfoil". Also liked "Meet Me At The Creek" & "Watch It Fall". I recently saw a live performance on TV with Billy & his dad playing guitar together on stage that was really good.
Another artist you might enjoy is Avi Kaplan, he falls into the Folk/Americana genre. He is an amazing singer songwriter with a 5 octave range. Most will start with Change on the Rise, prior to that release he released music under the name Avriel and the Sequoias where he did a bluegrass inspired cover of OutKast's Hey Ya amongst other original work. His only other cover song that has been released is Lean on Me although he did do House of the Rising Sun on a livestream. His latest album is the Shooter Jennings produced Floating on a Dream with 11 amazing tracks. Avi does like to "cover" his own music an example is on his last album he recorded All is Well with cowriter Joy Williams, then "covered" it solo acoustically for the 7 Layers Sessions, and covered is again for the Live at Sunset Sound EP. Each version is different and amazing.
YES! I discovered him at Ludington State Park, MI. Free show, Free CD’s. Then he rose to the top! Still so amazing. Playing with the greatest. He is living his best life sharing his God Given gifts and talents with the world.
I think you may have assumed because he was the one who sang it and they said he wrote it he was the one who was the main subject he was singing about-the one in jail because of meth. He wasn't. He wrote the song about someone he knew and what happened to them. I know your heart was in the right place but yeah Billy doesn't do anything but MJ and shrooms and as far as I have ever been told if it was grown in this earth God put it there to help us one way or another. Billy does have many other great songs some are very deep, like "Taking Water" or "Secrets" or Beautiful and romantic like "Morning Light" and "Love and Regret" and then there is his very very dark side "While I'm Waiting Here", "Wargasm", "Taking Water" I think would fall in those categories. If you wanted to check out any of these I would go with the official ones or lyric ones first but there is fan shot ones up on RU-vid so if you wanted a live performance, you could check that out too but live will be different every time because he never does the show the same way. That makes each show unique and that is why so many people love seeing him live. It's like seeing the Grateful Dead back in the day (at least that's what I have been told.
Yeah, i think he missed the point when he did his reaction. I kinda called him out on it....see my post below.... As far as The Dead, yeah, every show was different. I saw them about a dozen times in and around Chicagoland, as well as at the Shoreline..... But that was all in the late 80's-90's... IMO, their best years were the early to late 70's, but that was a few year before i discovered them in 1981.... At any rate, the BMFS Band is the best act to come along since the end of the Dead....
Came across Devin when he did A7X reactions and I absolutely loved it! We’ve got a new album coming from them before this summer and I can’t wait to see more reaction vids!
Great reaction Brother! I'm a 63-year-old Hillbilly that's been picking Bluegrass for 57 years, Banjo and Guitar. Your reaction was Priceless! Check-out Billy doing Theo Vonn's podcast, a number called "Cocaine Blues". He blasphemes in the song once; it hurts but his performance is just incredible. If You need any suggestions feel free to ask this sinner! Brothers in Christ!
If you liked this check out his live version of "away from the mire" at austin city limits. Crowd cheered for 2 straight minutes when they finished the song!
He's huge now. Playing to sold-out arenas. His dad taught him bluegrass as a young boy. Played metal as a teen but came back to bluegrass. He is truly amazing and vert, very talented!
"MEET ME AT THE CREEK" live is a necessity to check out. See him and his band at work. It'll literally blow you away. He's got so many great songs though
That is some real guitar pickin! Yeehaw! I tried to play that same type of standard guitar. But my Dad can play, he has a custom Les Paul and a custom Gibson guitar. He adopted me and my brother after we saw my future Dad play at the Coal Miners Jambouree Athens, OH.
You picked probably the best bluegrass picker around today. He is amazing. This was very early in his career. Next, try Turmoil and Tinfoil live at Roots Factory. Phenomenal, with his band. Lots of live vids of him. Got to see the live performances!
We gotta stick together baby Through thick and thin If we're gonna see the sun come up again It don't matter where you're from What shade you are Keep reaching for the sun and the moon and the stars
OK, being a man of G-d, i'm not sure you're gonna dig his music, or at least his lyrics..... Of course, i'm sure you can appreciate there's no denial he's one of the best guitar players on the planet right now, but his songwriting, for you, anyway, is a different story..... This particular song is actually about a friend of his who got busted twice for meth...after the 2nd time, he got slammed with 20 years.... Many of his other songs deal with addiction, the current state of affairs in this world, among other dark subjects.... But that's Bluegrass---cheery melodies, with dark, and sometimes depressing lyrics.... I call it the White Man's Blues. But i'm glad you did THIS particular version of the song...it's the Gold Standard "Dust" version.... He has an interesting history....his growing up in rural MI where drugs were an epidemic.....he had a real rough time in his younger years..... Nowadays, apparently he stays away from booze and the real hard drugs, but he's still a weed enthusiast, as well as a tattoo enthusiast...... I'd love to give you some recommendations, but unlike most people who are into, or discovering his music, i'm not sure you'll appreciate the ones i recommend to other reactors... I'll leave that up to other commenters... HOWEVER, there are a few i have that i'm quite sure you'll appreciate... The first vid is a masterpiece, and i suspect he did this performance after he heard about one of his friends committing suicide..... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PTlH8fUwoW8.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nXAyYAk7jZ4.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MFHVOuKS8-8.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CQFsfDa-A_Q.html As for your actual reaction, i'm torn whether to give it a thumbs up or down... Thumbs up because i'm not familiar with your channel and i'm only here for Billy Strings.... I'm glad he's getting another reaction, thus more recognition.... Also you had decent commentary after the video.... Thumbs down because, welp dude, you talk too much during the video, and your mannerisms are quite annoying.... It's almost as if you're mocking him and the video, tho at the end, you did say you really liked it (except for the lyrics, of course)..... Also, Jesus isn't my thing. So, that all said, i won't vote.
Gibby. A year ago you were a sub par reactor looking like a Chad. Now I haven’t watched the reaction but you’ve gotten better at the intro. Wether this is good or bad(and I’ll edit this afterwards) you’re growing. Keep going guy. Edit: the entire review had evolved ina good way. Maybe check out Billy strings and Marcus King: Summertime. It’s amazing
Don't be soft about lyrics bro.. it's a broad and eventful world.. can't narrow it down to a purist level... Life is all about those nuances.. no disrespect mate, I enjoyed your reaction on the whole. Good energy 😎
G'day mate. I great band I think you should react too is, "Dream Theater". They are a Progressive rock-metal band, their songs are a little long, but they are amazing. Good songs to react to, "Metropolis part 1", "The count of Tuscany", "The answer Lies Within", and "Panic Attack".
I love your reactions I recently found you, I would like to recommend Voice of Baceprot - God, allow me (please) to Play Music. They’re an all female group from Indonesia.
