My First Time Reaction to BLACK LAGOON Anime Openings and Endings and this anime looks INTENSE! I cannot tell if this is a dark anime or a light hearted action one but I want to find out! Fun factoid. This anime is based off of a manga put out in mid 2000s. It never finished as the author experinced heavy piracy of his work resulting in him not making any money. He quit writing monthly back in 2006 due to stress. The story will probably never finish as he came back in 2015 to write Black Lagoon again but a chapter is released about once every 1-2 years over seas as the license is kind of on back burner.

@@dylannix4289 There is Gangsta (I haven't watched it). Also there were a series of anime in 'girls with guns' sub-genre started by an old studio Bee Train. I have only watched the one named Noir from that it. I also watched Phantom of the Requirem by the same studio which wasn't a part of that sub-genre but has assassins and mafia. There is another anime named Cannan. I enjoyed them, but I will give them about 6-7. They aren't as good as Black Lagoon or Jormungand.

Black Lagoon is a mixture of hard action and lazy everyday life, combined with a pinch of sarcasm and comedy. It's about a businessman who is sent on a business trip and is confronted with a completely different way of life. Shocked and fascinated, he leaves his old life behind and joins a small group of mercenaries. The daily life of this group, their adventures, past and future are part of this anime.

Black Lagoon is an older anime that is still in 4:3 format. In fact, the story, so far without spoilers, revolves around the adventures of a group of mercenaries with their boat "Black Lagoon". Compared to many others, this one is more down-to-earth and mature in its narrative and staging. It offers a lot of brutal action, drama and in its gloomy staging also one or the other WTF moment. From this group of four, two stand out. First, the woman named Rebecca "Revy" Lee, who is present in the openings, and a japanese Man, who tends to stumble into this business and is only called Rock because of his first name.

Rock is one of the main characters but Revy seems to be the true protagonist of the story. It’s interesting how they follow Rock’s perspective and give it a sort of 2nd person style. Where he’s essentially telling her story. Akame Ga K*** did something rather similar with Tatsumi witnessing Akame’s story.

All the main characters are equally important. I guess you can say that he and Revy are both the protagonists. So you’re right. I may be wrong about that. Lol

Amazing anime, it is serius but has hints of comedy. Defenetly a new genre that you havent watched yet but i highly recomend watching Black Lagoon, its defenetly something that you would enjoy and i would love to see you react to this.

Black Lagoon is R 17+ for violence and profanity :) The basic description would be modern day pirates! Lots of sharp shooting and mafia involvement. Very good storyline, but keeping in mind that it does feature a lot of underworldy content so trigger warning on that front. It is great overall though!

Yeah, if you're born after 2000 maybe. It's not that heavy. I'd say that it's the right amount of seriousness and "real life" to keep it mature but not to the grotesque levels of gore. And no tits here so kids can watch it too /s

You forgot Narutaru's opening. It's very colorful and drawn in a chibi style in the opening song but the lyrics are sad, and when you watch the Anime and read the Manga of Narutaru it's very dark. Possible trigger warning there are some disturbing things that happen within the series. So if you can't handle dark + graphic content, I wouldn't recommend it. It's not for the faint of heart . The artstyle is very deceiving as well. Don't let it fool you. Narutaru is a very dark Anime and Manga series . ⚠

Black Lagoon is one of my favorite anime/manga of all time. I doubt anyone could air it anywhere in the western world without getting cancelled. It is dead serious, does have its funny moments but even many of those are dark. If it were rated it would have to carry an R or NC-17.

Even Elfenlied and Gantz got aired in the Western World(hell in Germany for example they were on MTV in a block specifically for teenagers, together with Hellsing and more), and private channels like HBO or Showtime air even live-action shows as brutal + with more sex and profanity all the time. Anime that would actually never get aired in the Western World are Ultra questionale stuff like Redo of Healer or Boku no Pico.

@@grim1570 You're aware that the Western World don't just consists of the US, right? Black Lagoon is rated 16(Elfenlied 18, but Gantz also just 16) in Germany(and even rated 12 in some scandinavian countries XD) for example and the only reason more mature anime don't air as often in the TV anymore is cause the target audience don't really watches TV anymore. Hell my country(Germany) in fact got more liberal with violence in fiction(mostly videogames though) over the last 10 years(and the scandinavian + most other european countries always were), and sex + profanity was never even remotely a big deal in Europe(there are legitimately NC-17 movies that are rated 12/6 with a parent here), also i actually doubt something as relatively harmless as Black Lagoon would be even in the US such a big deal.

Black Lagoon is definitely not for the faint of heart. It's violent and irreverent, but allows the dark plots to provide really impactful introspections on the human condition and the importance of human connection even when things look bleak. It's quite a roller coaster of emotions but it's one of my favorite shows I've ever watched. It's also surprisingly funny and charming at times.

Black Lagoon is one of those rare gems where the dub in my opinion truly outshines the sub (Original Japanese Dub). Not that the sub is bad but due to the nature of the show it adds so much extra grit to the show to hear all the English swearwords. It's also something that I doubt any current script writer would have the balls to write some of the stuff they say which is a shame as bad people should say horrid or immoral stuff. None of the characters in the show are good people outside of maybe one or two. We're talking fraudsters, mob bosses, hitmen, serial killers and everything in between. It's such a breath of fresh air to see bad people do bad things.

Villains are indeed often not successful(and in my opinion too often too incommpetent), but i feel like that is an completely different topic(even Saturday Morning Cartoon style villains can be easily unredeemable monsters after all).

@@gunchar06 Most fiction, bad people are just portrayed as deranged or insane. What I believe he meant isn't so "bad people doing bad things" but "bad people portrayed as normal humans who still do bad things". That is the thing that got Black Lagoon to me at least. They are still bad. They are still deranged at times, but they still seem like real plausible human beings. They all seem to have an actual reason to being who they are, doing what they do and capable of operating in the way they do. Main characters, side characters and this makes even the most deranged background characters more real. Seeing believable bad people doing their expected bad things is indeed a breath of fresh air from the conventional insane bad people doing senseless bad things just for the sake of being villains.

I've watched hundreds of anime in my life, but Black Lagoon doesn't get old at all and even though it's been 8 years since I first watched it, I still remember most of the events from this series. Starting with the characters, each of them has a really great story and Revy the main character is already a masterpiece in that regard, the way she's written, her complex character and her relationships with others is something beautiful and yes you're right she is a total badass and not only her. As for the plot, the whole group are modern-day pirates for hire living in the fictional city of Roanapur, Thailand, notorious for shady deals and lawlessness. I sincerely recommend this title, you will not be disappointed and it is possible that it will become one of your favorite anime. Btw for this title consider a place on the big series list on Fridays if you are interested in this series.

If you like genres that involve Criminal and Gang stuff, then Black Lagoon it right up your valley mate. One of my most favorite ones Openings give of a vibe to stir you up for the upcoming ride and the 1st ending is shooting you right in the soft spot when you see the end of each episode. (Without spoilers) There is one arc with a pair of kids (anyone who watched Lagoon, knows what I'm talking about) and when the ending started at the end of this arc, I seriously cried and had a small existential crisis when I thought what wicked things can happen to people in some parts of our world. So if you're into such stuff - be my guest, I hugely recommend Black Lagoon Cheers to all the viewers

Happy birthday ;) Black Lagoon is a classic one (like Death Note, Cowboy Bepop, Samourai Champloo, Berserk). A mature seinen (sex, violence, strong language, hard themes). With a singular vibe/atmosphere, and I think this is why it's a must-watched. Revy, the female MC, is a memorable character. You watch Black Lagoon, you remember her for life.

Black Lagoon is easily one of my favourite anime, Balalaika best girl. It is a very mature anime: while there are moments of levity, the plot revolves around a white-collar guy stumbling into group of mercenaries living in a rogue state ruled by mafia families, then joiniing them. The show deals with themes like: -murder -s*xual abuse -ch*ld abuse -drug trafficking -ptsd -mafia -colluded police and gocernment as a whole I highly recommend watching it.

Black Lagoon is one of those animes tht is highly recommended to ppl new to anime. Doesnt hav most of the usual whacky or odd tropes anime is associated with, and the expressiveness of the characters doesnt hav the usual "anime faces" they make when reacting to stuff like nudity, absurd situations, etc. Sadly it never got another season but did get a canon mini-sequel called, Roberta's Blood Trail. It's also one of those more harsher shows where it has alot of cussing, racial remarks, etc. Goes over heavy topics like r*pe, abuse, self delete, psychoticism, etc. Also its English dub is fantastic. One of the best imo

Black Lagoon is one of THE best "realistic" action Anime series, an absolute classic. I can't recommend this show enough!!!! "A woman with a nice butt walks around shooting stuff." is actually a great explanation for the surface of this show.... x,D It's about modern pirates (guns for hire) and it IS serious, but there also is quite a bit of mature (not ho*ny) comedy. The "Censored" was just a stylistic choice for the opening. There is lots of blood in the show but nothing too dramatic. It may sound weird, but to me Black Lagoon gives "anti A-Team" vibes. (Ton of action, interesting "missions", but not necessarily on the side of the "good"-guys,...)

I'd like to make some recommendations for a video with old openings, I didn't put everything but I mixed popular and not so popular, still they're really good. (I don't know if you already watched some of them but even so, here they are) -Great Teacher Onizuka (GTO), Op1 and Op2... these are awesome and a must in my opinion -Initial D Op1... Is really good and still used in memes and other things -Slam Dunk Op1... Classic and good song -The vision of Escaflowne Op1...Classic -Serial Experimental Lain Op1... Classic -X 1999 Op1... super unknown right now but an incredible song -Air Master Op1... pretty unknown too but nice song -Tenjho Tenge Op1... really fun -Beck Op1...Fun -Romeo X Juliet Op1... Let's gooo ! ! ! Black Lagoon is an oldschool anime show which would probably not released this day and time anymore. But it is an interesting show following a dude who just had a bad boss and how he got in a mess and out of a mess xd. It is raw but really good watch. But not PG friendly. Well let's just say it is in the hellsing category for questionable but more grounded in reality cause there is nothing ''supernatural''. Gotta say Revy (the main girl with the gun) does not fck around and you do not want to be at the opposite end of her gunpoint :D. The ending is soo serious it does not even feel like an action anime but an action show. It's just great.

Black lagoon is about the "Lagoon company" a group of smugglers/transporters/pirates. Most of the action happen in a lawless island city ruled by many factions of mafia and inhabited by the world's criminals, misfits and rejects. The show will get you all hyped up to watch, with their fast paced opening but its somber/angelic slow paced endings highlights the feeling of the story's darker tone

Black Lagoon.. is an anime that leaves its mark (in many ways)... incredibly brutal...mentally and gun violence and at the same time quite philosophical about human nature and what feelings like revenge and greed can do to a person. This is weird... and a hell of a lot of smoking... but a "must see"

Black Lagoon is the best of his kind of all anime i watched so far, i highly recommand you peak an eye on it it's very unique, a good action & deep show. And yeah i put the opening in my playist, it's fire.

Finally you are checking out Black Lagoon and what a ride this anime is, it’s very mature and incredibly violent with themes that may be uncomfortable for some but it’s really good. Revy is the name of the female lead and she is one of the most iconic female characters in anime. Another anime I recommend that’s similar to Black Lagoon is Jormangund, both are down to earth with no magic or special abilities just modern weaponry and lots of firefights. Anyone who likes action movies will love Black Lagoon and Jormungand.

Revy is the one of the best female leads in all of anime. You're pretty much correct on the premise there. It's about a group of mercenaries in a city riddled with crime and ruled by the mafia. It's an action show and one of my top 5 anime/manga. Definitelly a fun watch, though I'm not sure if it would be suitable for YT or Twitch. Would either have heavy censoring or be a patreon show.

Yep Black lagoon dub is definitely not to be missed out on. The VA's in this anime capture the vulgar and witty nature of the characters way better when you can pick up on the nuances of their speech.

Black Lagoon is about modern pirates and criminals in the South China Sea in the 1990's and the manga artist is a big fan of Quentin Tarantino so he has a bit of that style himself.

Fun fact, the voice actress who played Revy in this show also did the voice for the great sage/Raphael/words of the world in Reincarnated as a slime, she also played Dr. Miami in another anime with a very similar style to Black Lagoon, Jormungand. The show is fun, cool action, interesting characters and some truly awful human tragedy kind of stuff. Basically everyone in this show is a broken, disturbing mess and they routinely do some really crazy, nasty things. Definitely one for your no doubt exponentially growing list of shows to check out.

Dude black lagoon is so good you should definitely watch it! And watch the dub, it's one of the few anime where the dub is genuinely better! They have some hilarious dialogue. It was pretty popular when it came out but it's pretty old so the younger ppl might not know it. It's an absolutely crazy action anime, its both dead serious and hilarious, and yeah it's very much like Just Cause (underrated game!). "A woman with a nice ass walking around shooting stuff and everyone smokes cigarettes" is a surprisingly good summary lol.

well, didn't saw that coming. Man, I loved this show. It was one of my first rougher-ish anime and when I remember it (at least Stage one and two) it is such a banger. An interesting world, likeable charakters and a good 'direction' for the story it wants to tell. And the localisation.. phew, so sweet. If it can't chatch me then I watch the whole show in japanese - not nessecary here. (at least I can say that for the german one :p )

In a nutshell, it's about a group of Mercs/Criminals and their adventures on a P.T. boat called Black Lagoon. It's a more serious, gritty anime but with some over the top gunfights in it. There were 2 seasons of the main series and then a 3rd season/spin off called Roberta's Blood Trail. It's also one anime that benefits from watching the Dub version rather than the Sub version.

it is really obvious that you are effected by original opening cause it's so fucking good. but it has many clues about characters especially for revy. some parts of opening can be thought about balalaika as well. it reflects dark aura of the anime perfectly. on the other hand, ending is a heavy, melancholical masterpiece

@G.O.T Games The ending songs for Black Lagoon make more sense when you watch the Anime and read the Manga of it. There's alot of context and emotional depth to each character in the dark gritty world they reside in . When you watch Black Lagoon, you watch it for the characters and those moments of conversations between characters when down time is available. It helps you get insight in what makes each character tick and see their POV /beliefs . Yes the characters aren't good people, but they have a reason as to why they ended up the way they did. Giving alot of nuance.

Black Lagoon is an example of lightning striking the same point twice. On the one hand, there is a mangaka obsessed with the work of Tarantino and John Woo. On the other hand, there is a director who was commissioned to make anime, and who is also obsessed with them. And, attention! This director doesn't care about manga. In a good way. He directed this anime like he was directing a movie. Because of this, Black Lagoon is devoid of the usual “anime cliches.” No talking mouths or static shots. The director, unlike others, understands that manga is not a ready-made storyboard for a film. It is the presence of cinema-level directing and dramaturgy that makes Black Lagoon stand out. Oh yes, also Tarantino’s dialogues, which the director also adapted for anime.

Too bad that Mell, the singer for the OP song, had been retired since 2013 due to medical issues. She had not done any comeback tour - which is a shame as she was could be consider a 2nd generation of pioneer singers that got mainstream attention in the US and Western EU's market with songs used on anime. Black Lagoon is Almost a NC-17 or BBFC-18 with the amount of brutality with limbs flying off. Thinks John Woo 90's movies or John Wicks series. (there is actually a character in the show and manga that was based on Chow Yun Fat with his dual guns glory.) A word in ED#2.. I totally forgot that song with the "twins". (minor spoiler) And btw, happy Birthday mate. :)

Oh jeez I forgot about the second ending. Might not seem like much without context but with it, ow my heart. But yeah this isn't an anime if you're sensitive. Most of the people are damaged goods or have no filter. The girl you see in the intro, Revy is no exception. But if you're for that it's a classic and well worth the watch. Just be warned, just about everything that can get you an R rating is in this show.

Black Lagoon is the name of company of mercenaries and pirates in the crime dominated city of Roanapur Thailand. The point of view character is Japanese businessman Rokuro, whose called Rock by his friends, who after being kidnapped by Revy (the main female character in the openings) joins the Black Lagoon company. It has Russian Mafia with elite military training, Chinese Triad out of a Hong Kong action film, Columbian drug lords, child assassins, and shit ton of blood, gore, and trauma with dark humor sprinkled in. It's good 90s violence, but remember while their are protagonists there are no Heroes.

From what I can remember of Black Lagoon (only watched the first 2 episodes like 7 years ago) is that its plot revolves around some japanese business-man that is traveling with a cargo ship near Thailand kinda finds himself collaborating with some pirates that attack his ship. Basic synopsis is, Office worker is sold out to some pirates/Mercenaries by his company, the pirates take him in and he joins them and craziness ensues. It's a pretty gritty show, a lot of adult themes and violence

It's in the same genre as Cowboy Bebop (which is another one to check out), an action drama anime. It has some lighter funny episodes but when it goes hard, it goes HARD. Great show. Worth watching eventually.

It's essentially a crime genre anime. Might not be the best way of looking at it, but I always viewed it as if GTA were an anime. And I would recommend the English Dub if you were to watch it
