Bo was a theater kid, he understands music composition in a way a lot of artists that don't have any kind of formal training do. He also uses formulas that already exist in pop music and my theory is he makes the music before he comes up with the lyrics or story for the song. It's why compared to other music comedians his music just hits so much deeper because you connect with the sonics so the message connects more.
Crazy looking at the reactions on this lol.....n crazy with how his older he'd say real words n get laughs n make a joke about n get another laugh. Guessing why did his own laugh track on lines he figured ppl would laugh at
@@hermeticascetic for what it's worth, I liked your message xD Was about to defend the ever loving shit out of you! Right up until I realized it was you. :P
Artist genius level temperament is very sensitive specially if you skyrocket like him when in highschool so he protected himself from the overwhelming attention and when he wanted to go on your again plandemic happened and the focus his energy on his art in a deeper level
this hit me pretty hard when i first watched this special. he worked so hard to get better mentally, just to be shoved right back into isolation in 2020 from the pandemic.
He started as a comedian making songs on RU-vid, then he moved to the stage, then did some Netflix specials.. disappeared after Make Happy, and this song is on his return special on Netflix. If you're going to do more of him, definitely recommend starting early and progressing to newer stuff. You'll see how he changes from solely doing comedy to working in short hints at social commentary between the jokes, and then he starts adding in his struggles with his mental health. It gets pretty dark, but it's a pretty amazing journey to take. Key points would be "Art Is Dead", it's really his first direct attempt to describe the issues he has with what he does and who he is without so many metaphors. "Can't Handle This" contains two segments that almost sound pointless, but are easily missed metaphors before he delivers a direct message to the audience about why he's leaving and can't continue performing. And pretty much the entirety of Inside deals with his mental health, the progress he's made, and him breaking back down during the pandemic. Inside really shows his genius, he wrote the whole thing, directed it, filmed it, and edited alone. Everything you see is genuinely his work. And he tells as much of the story with the visuals as he does with his words.
Good suggestions but Bo has said that the first two verses of cant handle this aren't metaphors, he's just trying to be funny and point out that he doesn't think he has big problems
Add in helping create and star in a TV show, writing and directing a movie, acting in other TV shows and movies. Yes, he stepped away from live performances but he didn't spend the whole 5 years in a fetal position eating Pringles. He just focused on other aspects - some more collaborative - than the on stage live , one man performances. I love seeing his growth since he was 16 as an artist and a person.
This is an interesting song to start on with Bo Burnham. The song itself has a lot of context behind it. Personal context of Bo's past and his struggles with mental disorders, but also the context of the Netflix special it is from. Seeing someone react to it with no knowledge of Bo is a real interesting experience.
Agreed. I have followed him since his second video years ago. So my frame and the people I usually discuss things with all have a different frame of reference for him. Interesting to hear someone without that context hear him. I think it's just as important to know if a work stands alone than as a part of a whole body of work or inside joke.
You have a real rabbit hole to fall down if you dig Bo's vibe, he has a massive catalog and is recommend chronologically working through his specials, it's musical comedy but all of it has a solid vibe
Hey I enjoyed the reaction. He's a comedian. Another few jewels is Welcome to the Internet and Can't Handle this. ALSO please read up on him a lil. It'll help make you understand a few things.. TAKE CARE
@@poloreacts27hey idk if anyone has told you yet- but he’s using a deep synth on his voice. He does have a background in theater though and has a very Broadway-esque voice IMO
He started uploading videos on RU-vid at 16 or so (about 15 years ago now, he’s a RU-vid og). His songs went viral and then he signed with Comedy Central then Netflix. A lot of his stuff is absolutely hilarious but it’ll also catch you off guard suddenly with his honesty/insight. Plus he can spit, definitely worth checking out his older stuff. Don’t let those dumbass haters (trolls…) get to you, I thought it was a fantastic reaction!
It blew me away how bo just stopped after be endorsed by huge names like Ray Ramono and all his friends, producing and writing for chris rock, when Chris was doing he 1st special in awhile But the business is a beast thats for sure
Very interesting place to start with Bo. A lot of people start with his funnier stuff and then don't take this song for what it is. His Netflix specials are SO GOOD. I recommend Welcome to the Internet, Cant' Handle This (Kanye Rant), and From God's Perspective to get a sampler of what he's about.
He looks like Jesus if Jesus were white. Everything from his last special "Inside" is gold. You should check out "Welcome To The Internet", White Woman's Instagram, Comedy Also, Kanye Rant is one you have to watch
I love every bit of this song, especially when he grabs the camera because it feels like he's dancing with you. There's so much rawness and sincerity to Bo
I’m so impressed by what you get out of just his songs. When you go and watch his specials Make Happy, (where the Kanye Rant is from), and Inside (where this is from), I think you’ll be even more impressed with the ride he is able to take you on. He is a genius.
Such a weird intro to Bo, I watched several of your other Bo videos before coming to this one cuz I needed to know you appreciated him as an artist. Bo is precious to me and this song feels so intimate and heartbreaking when you've been watching Bo for literally more than a decade.
He started when he was in highschool with very childish problematic content. We all were kids, thought it was funny and we grew up and so did he. I'm so happy he did but now he is just like our age group. Depressed and riddled with anxiety.
Great reaction! When you are in the mood to hear him again, "White Woman's Instagram" is another catchy one. If you want to see him perform during the panic attacks he talks about during this song, try "we think we know you."
Was he having the panic attacks already in What? I thought they didn't start until Make Happy. But I could be wrong. Pretty sure he was having one when they filmed Can't Handle This... Which is a great precursor to All Eyes On Me, so you should definitely check it out!
Really like the reaction! The Kanye Rant is really good (Can't Handle This). Anything else from the Inside special is indeed special too. Looking forward to more!
Gifted like this guy, think that most of his problem. He’s freaking BRILLIANT, HILARIOUS, KILLER VOICE, GORGEOUS. It’s a lot to deal with. Hope the best for him Always ❤
!!!!!! GO. DOWN. THE. BO BURNHAM. RABBIT HOLE!!! It’s worth it. He is a comedian but uses song and performance art to express his points. He is a true genius.
"this guy kinda looks like jesus" hits on another level when you realise he's talking about 'Revelations' and about how people treat proformers like holy prophets lol
Seeing you react with no context or having any expectation of Bo was refreshing. I subbed today because of some other music reactions. Your intelligent and heartfelt reactions, your expressive face and care with really wanting to understand got me. Then I saw you had a Bo play list. Be still my heart. Great job. And yeah, I hum this catchy tune all the time. Along with a number of his other songs. They get in your head.
hey dude love your channel, i do covers, im here in the uk, any chance you could do a reaction to one of them on this channel, no one has ever reacted, it would blow my mind.
He started as a RU-vidr. Songs from his bedroom. Then a couple of tours (in really large venues!) Then the anxiety/depression problem he spoke of. Five more years in his bedroom. Then just as he was feeling OK, hello Covid. :-( Well, he has proven again and again that he does his best work in his bedroom.
Inside should really be watched in it's entirety. the emotional experience is worth more than whatever monetary value there is in discreet reaction videos. you deserve it.
Everything, check it all out. I've followed him since the early days of RU-vid. From a funny vulgar nerdy rich kid through his mental journey to now. I'm proud of the dude.
I loved this react. Instant subscribe. Bo is a fkn genius and I don't throw that word around. He rolls his own personal trauma into his comedy and there is so much to dive into for you. This was all during quarantine and it really grabs the mental state of that time. His whole special Inside was a great commentary on the mental aspect of civid quarantine.
I’ve seen 1.1 K Bo Burnham reaction videos. Loved the mellow and vibe you put on this as a first reaction to him. Don’t go down the Bo Burnham rabbit hole unless you’re ready. LOL
Would love to see you do more Bo! This is probably one of the weirdest ones to start with, so you'll definitely need to do some more before you get a good idea of him as an artist. I agree with whoever said it might be good to so some songs from his previous specials and then listen to the songs from Inside. You could even come back to this one and do a second reaction to it once you have some more context. I bet it'll hit differently!
I know nothing about this guy never heard of him. It’s an authentic reaction. But based off his fan based I will learn about him and check out his special
I recomment his show "What" it was on Netflix. Where I started years ago. His song from God's perspective, amazing when you grew up with Christian extremist parents.
you should go back and listen to all bo burnhams stuff.. all of it is impeccably written and super catchy but all is written as dark comedy and has a very poignant message.. listen to his "country song" even if you don't like country its just perfect.. people who know BO, consider him one of the best musicians/ comedians of our generation.
For like the last week I've heard this song in my head, but I've been imagining a rewrite where it's armed robbers singing it Getyo fuckin haaAaaands up Don't get outta yo seat No eyes on me no eyes on me Gonna take yo waaaallet Gonna take yo phoooone I know you're nervous You're not alooOoone Lol look Randy's also gifted ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-O_8S_7P7abM.html
i LOVE how everyone is always so in awe of him whenever he sings, he producers, creates, writes, sings, makes jokes. like what can't he do. he can even make his own stunning movie.
"You say the ocean's rising Like I give a shit You say the whole world's ending Honey, it already did You're not gonna slow it Heaven knows you've tried Got it? Good, now get inside"
Everything of Bo’s is good on its own. Great on its own. But as good as this track is, it’s better in the context of the Netflix special it’s from, Inside. And Inside is better if you understand his career up to that point.
He’s a comedian, mostly through songs. Ver good, very smart, and a little sad because he openly discusses mental health and depression. Several people mentioned the Kanye Rant in his prior special. This is kind of a follow up to that…. You should read watch it!
this is the classic cringe youtube comment, but i really do cry every fucking time i hear this song... it`s so depressing, i can feel everything that he must have felt when i hear it, it`s really depressing... he suffered with his mental health for a long time, then he worked his shit out and tried to get better just for the whole world to end and force him to go back to isolation, i mean wtf, bo`s one of the greatest artists of our time
He quit performing in late 2016 and tried to go back In 2020 but covid so he was stuck inside for another 1.5 years for 5years total since his last comedy special. In the first part of the song you think he's talking to you but then he shares his mental health struggles with anxiety and then you realize that the lyrics are him talking to himself in a mirror before he goes on stage. Because the contradictory messages he uses are a perfect example of what anxiety feels like. In the beginning you think "all eyes on me" is him demanding your attention but at the end you realize that it's an anxiety thought of "oh God no, all eyes are on me right now"
So when he said "the funniest thing happened" and went back into the song it meant that he went back into having th panic attacks i request you listen to goodbye!
Bo's comedy lies within his music most of the time. But his voice is amazing, and he's a genius with words. Check out his Kane rant, called " Cant handle this" Its super layerd and the whole fist half is metaphorical. Would love to see your take on it.
5:04 - 5:21 oh man are you in for a treat. Bo's timeline of work is such a journey it's tough to pick a place to start. Kanye Rant is prob my favorite outlining his mental struggles he touches on in this song. It was his last performance before a 5 year hiatus leading up to this special.
If you want something different, check out Billy Strings - probably “Dust in a Baggie” (I’d start with the version in basement at a party). He plays (grammy-winning) bluegrass… plus metal & jam band vibes. I don’t listen to country or metal, but talent is talent and that guy is next level.
