Your gut reaction to this heartroken song is perfect. Please don't apologize for playing a sad song. This music is magical healing because it doesn't pretend the world is like a Disney movie. The territory of the heart is a very sensitive place, as we all know. This kind of matured and grown up song is perfectly appropriate for us all to hear. Bonnie is the poet of love, and she never fails to make me produce tears of gratitude for her gracing our world. What a pure gift she is.
Bonnie is a world class, Hall of Fame, top 100 guitarists of all time - slide/blues/rock musician. Listen to, "let's give them something to talk about" and her duet with a founder of the blues, John Lee Hooker. 👍 Always love your genuine reactions 💕 women feel the truth whether people say it or not. 😉 Pleeeeze do more Bonnie - she's peaceful on this song but she is a fierce musician performer and human being.
She won a Grammy for this and 5 others in 1992..she was a blues singer back in the 60's and 70's with a great slide guitar..for a different style from Bonnie try Give it up or let me go and Love me like a man..Dimming of the day is a good calmer one..thanks 👍✌
She was big in the 70s but alcoholism almost killed her career but she cleaned up and came back big time with her Nick of Time album and her continued. She is a legendary singer and blues slide guitarist. One of the greatest ever.
Yes this is hers, released in '91. She didn't write it, it was written by two veterans of the country music landscape, Mike Reid and Allen Shamblin. As far as I'm concerned, every cover of it falls far, far short, I personally don't think anyone else can do it justice.
I've cried every time I've listened to it. Bought the cd when this first was released. Was dealing with a husband that didn't love me. The Best! Bonnie is a legend!
To change the mood to something upbeat and funky, check out Bonnie Raitt's songs "Something to Talk About" or "Thing Called Love"...two of my favorites.
This is the original, and easily the best version. Bonnie is a mature woman that opens her heart, a woman that has seen and been through something. Not some vocal gymnast trying to impress you.
Ageless... words beautifully sung. Human nature, wanting to hold on to love, with everything you have. Knowing... the best thing and one of the hardest things to do. Letting go... Feeling love is sometimes loving enough to let it go
A beautiful song. A super gal was crazy about me at 20. This song might as well be us. Just too young at the time. She contacted me 40 years later.....she still felt the same. I then realized the hell I must have put her through....We spoke for an hour. I apologized a dozen times. Like 40 years ago, she was kind & sweet & understanding. Some kinds words exchanged & bid farewell.
Your reaction to the song as you listened was touching. Bonnie Raitt is indeed a great singer/songwriter and guitarist - most of her "hit" songs were softer or mainstream - several have already mentioned some of them in their previous comments. However, her blues playing is really where I think she shines. In fact, when the incredible blues-rock guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughn died and a tribute was done for him by the many iconic blues players ... and Bonnie Raitt was among those performing that day.
She famous for blues, rock, and being an awesome slide guitarist. Listen to Love Me Like A Man, Don't Advertize Your Man, Give Them Something To Talk About, and a zillion others. She won a Grammy this year for Just Like That. It's worth looking up her volume of music.
Empress Joy-Jean Bonnie Raitt live versions are even better! And she has more fun and sexy songs. Natural, slide guitar woman. Got to see her in person a few times. Glad you've found her..have fun exploring her more!
You feel that as young ..your really special ..nice soul ,,cant believe that ..you feel that ..No one needs a broken heart ..but yeh ..it will happen again ..stay strong ..
My god your beautiful. I'm seriously in love with you. Your smile and bright eyes make my day worth living. I look forward to seeing you everytime. 😍😍😍😍🥺😘
Hi Empress, this song was written by Mike Reid and Allen Shambling and was first released by Bonnie Raitt in 1991. It has been covered 168 times since then including the Teddy Swims version that you reacted to last year.
Wow, Empress, I thought you weren't going to get through it, Beautiful reaction to a beautiful song, beautifully sung. Never apologise for having and showing feelings, it shows you have a soul
I listened to an interview that Bonnie had given, regarding the substance of this song. She told this sad story about loosing her husband to another woman. She loved him so deeply. She stated that when she married him.... she knew that she would not be able to keep him. She said she just wasn't beautiful enough for him. Dear Lord.....my heart feels like it has been pulled from my chest.....just like every time I hear it. I hope your sadness has gone away now, Bonnie. Peace be with you.
This was my song for three years after my 27 year marriage ended. We parted amicable and remain friends, but he broke me, and I am still picking up my pieces.
Dance is a form of expression, and as such, can be indulged in for reasons other than happiness. Slow-dancing to this piece could be showing that one recognizes the pathos embodied in it. Thanks for reacting to this wonderful song, Empress. I first heard it by Ms. Raitt whom I adore, and Bruce Hornsby's exquisite piano just puts it over the top for me. You definitely captured the mood.
I have watched a LOT of reaction vids to this song. Women get it and women are not afraid to show they connect with this song. Your face. OMG. You get it.
It is definitely a very sad song. I loved it from the first time I heard it and back then I mostly listened to very hard rock music. We don't need to know what you were remembering, as we all have our own version of that tale.
I could slow dance to this all night, and weep till dawn, my tears falling, slowly rolling from your shoulder, down your back..... Heartbreaking.... For more of an uplifting example, Let's Give Them Something To Talk About. Great voice and guitarist!!!!!
Empress great reaction ,again,as usual. Yes,Teddy Swims did a cover of this song..This song was written by songwriting team of Mike Reid and Allen Shamblin. According to Mojo magazine, Reid got the idea from a newspaper article about a guy who got drunk and shot up his girlfriend's car. When the judge sentenced him and asked him what he had learned, the guy said, "You can't make a woman love you if she don't." ..Can you please do a reaction to the song Love Shack by the band The B-52's.....Thank you and have a good day....
This song has a special meaning to me. Every time I hear it it brings back memories of my next door neighbor. I heard them playing this song on their patio one evening. Two days later they died when a drunk driver hit them leaving a 17 year old daughter alone in the world. It was the second time the man had killed someone while driving drunk.
Bonnie raitt is a legend. This is the original of this song. I also suggest Angel from Montgomery, Love Me Like a Man. Pretty much anything she's ever done.
I got to say that you look absolutely amazing today. 😁👌 Besides that, Bonnie Raitt is an American musical legend of the blues world. Her guitar playing are of high class and her slide is top grade too.
"I'll feel the power; but, you won't" Such a real song with real emotion and understanding. Achingly sad. "I'll do what is right" Unrequited love is so sad. "I'll give up this fight" Love, Loss, and Acceptance.
When one person loves with all their heart and soul, but their partner doesn't, it can cut like a knife. She depicted through this song, something so real, pure truth, & how some see it, & are going through it. Raw & uncut.
I love this song , and this version is so good. Many people have covered it, but the first time I heard it was when Chantel McGregor sang it at The Glee Club, self-accompanied by her acoustic guitar. She sang it so well.
Bonnie is the Queen. She plays guitar as a badass and sings like a goddess. Listen to the album Slipstream. All songs on that album is just amazing. She can rock your shirt off! 🙂👍
No matter if sad or happy your reaction always leave me with smile because of how you get into the songs ! Thank you for your commitment to your music ! I love Bonnie Raitt !
Fine reaction! Bonnie is cool peoples. I do believe took a break for some years. Not sure if it was due to recovery. I think perhaps one of the 1st songs she came back with was, Nick Of Time, which I would recommend. I see others already recommended Something To Talk About. 👍
This was written by songwriting team of Mike Reid and Allen Shamblin. According to Mojo magazine, Reid got the idea from a newspaper article about a guy who got drunk and shot up his girlfriend's car. When the judge sentenced him and asked him what he had learned, the guy said, "You can't make a woman love you if she don't." The judge was expecting something along the lines of, "I can't shoot stuff because I'm angry." The song is about a woman who knows her man has lost interest and just wants to spend one more night with him before moving on with her life. Instead of lying to herself or trying to work things out, she confronts the reality and seeks closure with that final night together. In the morning, she'll be on her way. Reid and Shamblin began writing this song with a faster tempo; it came together when they slowed it down. When they completed the demo, they thought it might be a good fit for Linda Ronstadt, but the song ultimately went to Raitt, who loved it on first listen. "It was absolutely one of the most honest and original heartache songs I had ever heard," she told the Los Angeles Times. "It was a point of view that I had been on both sides of, and it struck me deeply. I knew immediately I wanted to sing it." Getting the news that someone doesn't love you anymore is devastating, but Raitt feels that delivering it is worse. Many artists have recorded this song over the years in a variety of styles. The jazz singer Nancy Wilson was one of the first, taking it to #87 on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart in 1994. Boyz II Men reached #75 on that chart with their 2009 version. The song reached its highest chart position in the UK in 1997 when a cover by George Michael released as a double A-side alongside "Older" peaked at #3. Another charting version in the UK was by Adele, whose live rendition climbed to #37 in October 2012 (this version was originally included on iTunes Festival: London 2011, an EP of songs released in the wake of her 2011 iTunes Festival appearance). Prince included the song on his 1996 album Emancipation, and Priyanka Chopra did an EDM version that made #28 on the Dance chart in 2014. This is likely the most popular song written by an All-Pro NFL star. Co-writer Mike Reid was a star defensive tackle at Penn State and was drafted seventh overall by the Cincinnati Bengals in 1970. He made two Pro Bowls before quitting football in 1975 so he could pursue music. It was a good career move: he became a top songwriter in Nashville, and also a prominent artist, with a #1 Country hit, "Walk on Faith," in 1990.
Absolutely love your smile and it hurts me to see you sad, but I love to watch as you listen to the lyric's. Totally unexpected. Thank you for allowing us to visit and watch these beautiful reactions.
I'm not really a Bonnie Raitt fan But this song is so beautiful & has a true meaning for me I've loved this woman for years and no matter how hard I want her to love me back, she just doesn't. It's been a very painful journey, so I can relate to this song. You are so beautiful, Empress I love your channel. Happy 2022.
Sweet Empress ♥️ Beautiful reaction by a beautiful lady! So sorry to hear that sadly, you can relate to this song. Shame on whoever put you through that. It's their loss though. Such a sweet and beautiful young lady you are, both inside and out. Thank you for your sincere reactions!
I've been stuck on both sides of this equation. It is a tough ride. Bonnie expressed it so true. I cry every time I hear her sing this song. Fortunately, Bonnie never sang a song sadder than this one, and most of her songs were very upbeat!
Really enjoyed your reaction to this classic song Empress! I knew you'd love it. Bonnie Rhett is an amazing artist and performer. She's won three Grammy awards. And Rolling Stone Magazine has her listed as number 50 of the "100 Greatest Singers of All Time" and number 89 on their list of the "100 Greatest Guitarist of All Time". You definitely need to react to more of her music. Songs like Something To Talk About and Thing Called Love. Thanks again for your beautiful reaction!❤
Other comments have suggested a few other Bonnie Raitt songs which you should check out. The piano player on this song is Bruce Hornsby and you should listen to his hit song "The Way It Is" (1986).
Teddy Swims did a fine cover of this, but Bonnie's original has always seemed the most authentic to me, even though I'm a man. But I first heard it at a similar point in my own life. I didn't know who had done the piano because I hadn't yet discovered Bruce Hornsby, but I'm not surprised that he was playing.
