I love Brother Ali. He's an amazing artist and person. I met him at a meet and greet once and briefly spoke, he blessed me and gifted me a custom ring he had made in Turkey. Wear to this day. He is an inspiration and a guide. Try, "Dear Black Son", "Forest Whitaker", "Take Me Home", or "Blah Blah Blah"
I always want him to do Dear Black Son when I go to see him in concert. Such a strong foundational pillar in conscious hiphop IMO. If I knew the cost to do an entire album and have MrB react to an entire album or an albums worth of songs I’d totally do it for Brother Ali. Such an underrated artist in the mainstream (but fortunate for us who are his fans loyal to the core). Been blessed to have seen him in concert in two very close-contact venues. Very personal vibes
@@grutza2 true, going to this well above what would have been mainstream from the time he started to now. But, his big break into even the small devoted groups and a lot of fans was through Atmosphere. As long as they've been around I still wouldn't necessarily consider them mainstream. I love and find inspiration from the artist/creator's, who have to go through whatever personal internal struggles end up choosing to honor their courage and love of self. Giving them whatever strength they required to let them refuse to change who they are trying to be, what they're trying to represent, and make their art in a way that is not going to be stifled or altered by a "mainstream."
Picket Fence is one of my favorite by Brother Ali, where he talks about his struggles growing up and not fitting in. The other favorite might be Dorian because although it doesn't have a deep message the imagery and word play is just fantastic.
Oh man... More Brother Ali!!! I'm super stoked for this one!! "Haunted Housebroken" is one of my favorites but, I love all of his stuff so I'd be glad to see you react to any of it 😁
Such a beautiful track, night and day from Uncle Sam in tone. Brother Ali is poetic and insightful af. I got to see him on tour with Atmosphere years ago, great show. This was a treat, thank you. I know you'll get various other Ali requests in these comments but I suggest *Never Learn* next.
Shadows of the Sun is in my top five rap albums of all time. If it received more promotion, I promise that most people would rank it higher than a lot of the other albums that are often brought up.
Yes!!! More Brother Ali, please!!! Forest Whitaker Win Some, Lose Some Lookin at me Sideways Truth Is The Puzzle Pedigree Good Lord The Preacher Blah Blah Blah (ft Slug from Atmosphere)
You're touching something special here. Those of us who love our dear brother show up for him. There's at least 2 dozen songs that you absolutely have to listen to.
Earlier today I was listening to Hank Williams' "So Lonesome I Could Cry" and I came across your reaction video to that song. Now it's around 1am and I've been listening to Brother Ali for the first time in forever, and I happened to come across this. Respect to your range and exploration of pockets. I'm subscribing now.
honestly you could pick any brother ali song at random and pick something amazing. from this album you might want to check "before they called you white" and "uncle usi taught me" "dear black son" (a letter to his own son) he's got some interesting things to say. and he always says it with such passion
I've seen him twice in concert and my mind has been blown. I pretty sure I was probably the oldest one there, I'll be 60. I love this man, he's the truth 🤗🤗
Also Brother Ali has so many awesome songs in different styles. Just realized I’m on my wife’s profile. Check out The Dangerous Three- Brother Ali, RA the Rugged Man,& Master Ace
His song "Forest Whittaker" is a must hear and "bad mufucka pt. 2" is fantastic. "Dorian" is great, I'm having troubles thinking of titles but there are so many.
His lyric "you invented disease and sell the remedy" is similar to his lyrics in "Forest Whitiker" and I think is referencing his diagnosis of albinism. From his perspective, perhaps, a condition he was born with but which did not prevent him from achieving great things, could be the reasoning behind these lyrics.
Room with a view by brother Ali is a much deeper song Similar to the first one that you reacted to. Would love to see a reaction to that one, I think you'd enjoy it
YES! Ali for days. The Undisputed Truth is the album that introduced him to my cd collection. (Uncle Sam GD is on that album - it's got a vibe) Also worth your time from Rhymesayers (the label ali is with): Atmosephere (I'd hope most people know at least one of their songs?? maybe? they're 2 of the 5? people to start RSE ) Eyedea & Abilities (r.eye.p) Sa-Roc (is a killer lady; I think she's from D.C?) Or if you're enjoying some alt hip-hop from MN you can also check out Doomtree - a hip hop collective. P.O.S (member) used to be on RSE and when his kid was at the show he'd sensor his songs which was so cute.. and Dessa (member) is a VERY strong female vocal poet/hip-hop artist. then a total left field non-midwest group who opened Soundset back in, like, 2010? - and I mean OPENED SOUNDSET wearing a cape, cut-out speech bubbles, crazy energy.. wild times. that'd be Solillaquists of Sound
I love Picket Fence. He opens up about his appearance and how he was bullied as a kid. That's probably my favorite song by him. His entire discography is dope though.
Man you should really check out forest whitiker. I’m convinced it’s brother Ali’s best song. It’s off his first record “shadows on the sun” and it’s great.
One of my favorite quotes comes from eddie griffin. "Christians say jesus is the messenger, muslims say its Muhammed, i say forget who the messenger is, did you get the message? Cuz its the same damn message."
This is such a good one. Love anything Brother Ali does. He’s “travelers podcast” is fire… you should check it out. The interview with Chuck D, and the interview with slug are just two of them. Edit: I finished watching, it was a joy watching you enjoy this one. It’s one of my favorite, just the line “using my hearts for what hearts are for” alone says so much.
You NEED to listen to Work Everyday!!!!! It puts all these peices together! I doubt you''l see this comment, but I'm telling you man This guys evolution lyrically is phenominal!
Idk if you still do this. But "letter to my countrymen" would be an awesome reaction video for you to do as well if you havent already. Im assuming youve heard it but if not its at least worth a listen. If you even see this comment...
Check out Brother Ali - Best@it feat. Freeway and Joell Ortiz. Ali is a rapper beast in that one. And I also prefer old Ali to his newer, more explicitly religious stuff. His (newer) song Sensitive is very dear though. But check out Letter to my Countrymen, too, if you liked Uncle Sam Goddamn.
