Bruce Hornsby is definitely not a one hit wonder. He has several albums (the old term) and a number of hits, including this one. He was well-known back in the day.
Yep, THE original. I saw them at the Rainbow Music Hall in Denver in 1986. They were oh, so good. They had several other hits: "Every Little Kiss" and "Mandolin Rain."
Channel Nine in Australia since the 90's, still uses the piano rifts from this song as part of their Saturday night news Sports short report background music as of Jan 2024.
American rap music is full of samples like this …. Infact I am starting to see that R& B stations promote music without acknowledging original artist for example Tupac - Bruce Hornsby … Maxwell - Kate bush, Witney Huston - Dolly Parton - there are to many to write down but they all have something in common ..
If you like piano singers, can you react to Phil Vassar. He’s a country music songwriter turned singer. He wrote and sang a lot of hits in the 90s, early 2000s.
"That's just the way it is" is known as the Gentleman's agreement--code for racism. See the movie by the same name with Gregory Peck. "all ye are brethren." Matt. 23:8
HipHop/Rap artists are notorious for sampling contemporary artists’ works….Suspiciously, I wonder why they do this? Most of them are talented enough to develop new beats and sounds…It always struck me, that they “lean” on other’s works, to sell their albums….🤷🏼♂️
If I understand correctly this song was at least partially addressing Apartheid and the policies of it. Bruce Hornsby plays just about any style of music there is. He has three Grammys,Best New Artist, Best Bluegrass Album and Best Pop Instrumental Performance. Besides his group he has worked with multiple artists including three years with The Grateful Dead. You have probably heard him even if you don’t realize it because he has composed and performed for multiple projects with Spike Lee including the 2009 Kobe Bryant special on ESPN. Truly a versatile talent in the music industry. I think he had a new album out in May of 2022 and he will be on tour this summer.
I read that it is actually referencing the Economic Opportunity Act and Civil Rights Act of 1964 in the U.S. Under Aparthide the social welfare system focused mainly on poor whites and excluded blacks. The allocation of social welfare resources favoured whites.
@@L3x4Pr0neyou can't compare a rapper/song writer.. to a musician. They both good in their own right.. but Tupac used this song for a reason not the other way around.
Bruce Hornsby is one of the best pianist ever. His style is Ike no one else. This is his biggest and most enduring hit but every song he plays on is elevated by his piano stylings. If you like this song, you’ll love his whole album. He creates so much joy and whimsy in a song that is so dark in so many ways. You can’t help but be moved by the song. Check out Mandolin Rain. That song is beautiful
Check out Huey Lewis and the News. Huey was good friends with Bruce, Bruce wrote him a song "Jacob's Ladder" for his "Fore" album and Huey produced a song for Bruce "The long race". Some songs of his "I want a new drug" "If this is it" "Heart and Soul" "Power of love" "Heart of Rock and Roll" "Stuck on you" "I know what I like" "Hip to be square" "Doing it all for my baby" edit: "Do you believe in love?" "Perfect world" "Small world" "Hard at play"
loved your reaction!! haha , boy's fingers are possessed haha awesome reaction vid man. this is prob my favorite tune ever, just amazing, great message, great music, really amazing.
It's crazy when I see people discover this stuff. When 2 Pac sampled this I knew where I came from. You never forget the original, I'm glad you liked it.
Some folks simply have different upbringings, or else just weren’t old enough to know. It’s so magical when people hear this stuff for the first time though and immediately vibe.
Sir Elton John is a huge admirer of Bruce Hornsby and his piano skills and has said as much quite openly. What Bruce Hornsby doesn't know about playing the piano isn't really worth knowing. So relaxing to listen to.
Bruce grew up in Williamsburg Virginia. Son of a wealthy real estate family. Sometimes people of means have the most empathy for those that don't have it.
Anything by Bruce Hornsby and the Range is worth listening to. I second the suggestion of Mandolin Rain! This group exemplifies the time period in all the best ways. What you grew up with? Much of it was 'sampling' the 70s and 80s (no harm, no foul, earlier generations did the same for earlier music too). I had to pause and look up Tupac's song *lol*!
One of the first artists I feel in love with because of this song! Been listening to him since this album came out. You gotta check out more of his music! ❤
Hello my friend, I hope all is well with you and your family. You stumbled upon one of my favorite songwriters and singers. This man was asked to tour with the Greatful Dead which he did but refuses any and all accolades. Very humbled and unapologetically refuses to pander to southern culture and racism. Great pick.
NOT his only hit 🇨🇦 Bruce has had many albums, full of hits ! And now I am going to lay some challenges on you ! Everybody wants to rule the world - by Tears for Fears True - by Spandau Ballet Soul Sacrifice (Woodstock) - by Santana White Rabbit (Woodstock) - by Jefferson Airplane I'm not in love - by 10CC
Ah ah ah, I know this song but actually it's the first time i got to know the singer and see the MV. I had listen this couple times on radio (105.8 fm Most Radio Indonesia), but i didn't know who the singer is 🤭🙈🙈🙈🙈 actually i'm searching and collecting some 80s or 70s songs that i had heard on the radio but don't know who is the artist. It's so hard 🙈🙈🤭🤭🤭
Bruce Hornsby had a number of hits. This is my favorite song of his followed by The Long Valley Road, Across The River, Every Little Kiss, Look Out Any Window, and Mandolin Rain.
Bruce was and still is an avicide for justice and he supports all races and creeds. He is color blind so to speak and this song hit so hard that Tupac sampled it.
Sorry man.... but Bruce Hornsby is NOT-----REPEAT----NOT a "one hit wonder"----- you just need to expand your listening experience and history. Siimple.
I love love love your reaction! I understand exactly how you feel man, this song gets to me everytime I hear it, it will remain 'forever platinum gold'!!!! 😊❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I only learned a few weeks ago that Bruce was the piano on Bonnie Rait's "I Can't Make You Love Me." I'd always loved that piano and had never connected it to Bruce Hornsby.
One hit wonder? Hardly! Lemme see: This song plus Mandolin Rain, Every Little Kiss, Valley Road, and (my favorite) Fields of Gray, etc. Nah, definitely not a one-hit wonder..
