It was 1979 and he won the grammy for best new artist and for his debut album "Cross Words." His other hits were- 1.Ride Like The Wind. 2.Arthurs Theme. 3.Never Be The Same. 4.Think Of Laura. 5. Swept Away. 6. I Will Take You Forever. 7.All Right. These songs need to be reacted to. You will be pleasantly surprised.
Swept Away never charted. Take you forever made the a/c charts, but not the pop charts. Say You'll Be Mine was a top 40 hit, as was No time for talk. Charm the Snake made the Billboard pop charts, as did A Chance for Heaven. Loving Strangers made the a/c charts. He had 2 songs in the 90s that charted in Germany, In the Blink of an eye and Been There, Done that.
Lost my little brother also......... in 1981, I picked this song for his funeral as well. 40 + years later and I'm still listening to this song thinking of him.
It was 1979. I was 14. It was the first day of summer break and I was sleeping in for the first time in months. My next door neighbor’s open window was a driveway away from my open window and he was playing this song. It was the most gentle wake-up I’ve ever experienced and I’ll always have a soft spot in my heart for this song because of that memory.
What a vividly wonderful description of this song. I try not to label anything just as nostalgiia, but that moment in time... the simplicity of life in 1979, the purity of how music was crafted.... you have a perfectly good memory to hold onto.... congratulations.
That's the beauty of a great song. I remember the moments I heard all the great songs in my life. "Burnin for you," Blue Oyster Cult, little league baseball, 1981...
The correct term for this Song is "Ethereal" ! I remember this as a kid and would day dream to it when it came on the radio. By the way Christopher Cross is from Texas too!
This song is the epitome of the genre called "Yacht Rock." When I hear this song, I definitely visualize myself on a yacht sailing to the Bahamas, etc.
its interesting you guys did this today. This song has been floatin around in my skull for like 2 weeks now. Wonder why?... hmm.. Ive liked this song forever. And everything you said Asia is exactly how I feel about it. The free flow of relaxed energy..wtvr it is... I been feelin it for awhile now. Thnx guys! Peace and love as always! OK...I had to come back and edit this...Asia, BJ was right. And the last few moments of the video clinched it....'asthetic' LMFAO!!
Listening to this, with closed eyes, you get the feeling you are on the water. The piano is the waves against the hull. The violins, the wind. A temporary release from the tassels of life.
When I came to America years and years ago my friend and I drove from Los Angeles to San Francisco listening to this album. Absolutely had the best time ever. Listen to Arthur's Theme "when you drunk between the moon and New York City" brilliant. Love from London to you guys. Jan 🧡
I think this song is why it’s called Yacht Rock. Even though it’s about a sailboat. I don’t know why I think that. I have a Yacht Rock playlist on my phone.
It makes a good pairing with another "yacht rock" masterpiece, "Ocean Breeze" by Pablo Cruise. I don't think there are any "Ocean Breeze" reactions on RU-vid, probably because it's 12 minutes long and mostly instrumental.
My favorite song of All Time. This is the only perfect song ever written, sang, produced, composed… This song can change my entire day if I need it. Fabulous choice
My husband and I owned sailboats for years. Sailing was a wonderful way to decompress. When the wind was at your back, you put your Mainsail starboard and your Genoa to port. It's called going wing and wing. It is absolutely silent as you glide over the water. Because your moving with the wind there is no breeze. We would play this song and many others like it and it was magic. I'm glad you found this one.
Incredibly written song. It's been one of my favorite songs since I was a little kid. I would hear this song and just go to a different place while reading books at night.
Gives you that like a feather or butterfly feeling, as if you could be that physically care free. Couple others with that feeling, Micheal Franks, "dragonfly summer" or Minnie Riperton, "edge of a dream".
Every time I hear this song, I can’t help but feel so blessed to have experienced it back then and feel so sad for those times at the same time. 1980 was a very special time in my life , so exciting to come of age as a 20 year old and see the world change as a new decade began. The 80’s turned out to be a very special decade , so blessed to have experienced it!
This is one of the few songs that I can play in the background and still concentrate on what I'm doing. What a coincidence...been listening to this song lately...great reaction!
For a multiple Grammy winner, he is highly under-appreciated to this day. His music can be both catchy and relaxing, but it is always a treat to listen to. Check these out: Minstrel Gigolo Think of Laure All Right Never Be the Same The Light is On Arthur’s Theme Baby Says No No Time for Talk
During this time frame, Cross held his own in the Soundtrack game. Especially along side the late great Dudley Moore with movies like "10" and "Arthur"
The great producer Michael Omartian had his production fingerprints all over this effort to ENHANCE an already great song writing genius of Christopher Cross. Great song. Great album!
Aye, I know yall been doing this for a while, and I’m the CritiquelChannel. So I’m going to be Critical here. I love what you two are doing, for more of the relationship between the two of you that registers into the reactions. And I pray that you two keep it up, to as high as you both shall prosper. That’s honest. My friend.
Great reaction to an artist that some don’t know. He has some great songs. Arthur’s Theme is another one that just makes you feel good and smile. Thanks for this share! 🤓🤠❤️
I absolutely love this song!❤ And Asia and BJ, the canvas certainly does miracles. I've had the pleasure of sailing a few times and it is so beautiful and tranquil. It definitely takes you to a different place. I hope ya'll get the opportunity to truly sail one day. You'll never forget it. Looking forward to hearing more of Christopher Cross.
A little history on how Chris play guitar for Deep Puple once when they were touring and their guitar ply was sick !!! You never know we’re some of there’s artist stated!!!! ❤😂
I heard exactly what you said Asia! Back in like 1981 Rollerskating around the rink to this song with the disco lights softly illuminating the rink at the age of 13 that’s exactly how I felt then and this is the reason I watch these reactions now! To relate (if only for a moment) to that fresh feeling through someone else’s eyes! Thank you both for the lovely reaction!
This is my parents song. Not sure what the story is behind that, but it's their song haha. Christopher Cross is one of those artist that kinda sounds like a blend of Smokey Robinson, Aaron Neville, and George Michael. It kinda puts you in this peaceful and calming mood, and perhaps that's what his goal was to this song. Great reaction to a song that is a hidden gem! Sending y'all positive vibes. Peace and love!
❤❤No words to explain just "how much" i love this song.❤❤ And what and how it makes me feel. It's the same for me with AFRICA, by Toto and Baker's Street, by Gerry Rafferty. Asia's right, it's, the melodies. Like, idk, nostalgic.
My aunt played this song as she walked down the isle when I was about 5 years old. 1987 I believe. When I was in high school NSYNC had just come out and if I remember correctly on their first album they did a cover of this song and I was captivated once again. Harmonious songs like this are rare nowadays but I know you’re a few years younger than me and may like to listen to that as well. It truly is a beautiful song
My 3 favorite soft rock songs... 1) Sailing (C. Cross) 2) I'm Not In Love (10cc) 3) Human Nature (M. Jackson) Now i have to make a playlist for this type of mellow groovin'. There are alot of great great songs that make you feel this way. Shout out to Beverly Hills HS. Cool and unique school colors.
This is what giving thanks to God does for me. I look in my journal where I write everything that I see Him do for me, and reading it brings to my memory how good He is and I start thanking Him.
I was in prison when I first heard this and I cried. The sailing metaphor to me meant soon this will pass and I will be free. Thank u for doing this one. Subbed
...fire one up, turn this on, and go...was such a special time for music, every variety...his 1st album is Priceless, Every Single Song...give it a listen listen then decide...it gets called yacht rock now, back in the day was just music that touched you...and no matter how hard you were struggling you got a break...YES! Asia just nailed it! It takes you away! Love you guys, keep on keepin on!
