What if the person he lost was himself? Scott Stapp often writes about his struggles with alcoholism and substance abuse/addiction. Listen to it again with the lyrics up and imagine the addict singing to their sober self. It is quite a revelation!

@@liveandletdie7187 I believe his struggle with addiction is behind his separation from the group in 2004. Anyone wanting a deeper dive should read Sinner's Creed from 2012. It even covers his suicide attempt in Miami in 2006.

"My Own Prison", "What's This Life For", "Torn", "Pity For A Dime", "In America", "One"... Their whole first album was special. Worth a listen. I know they get a lot of hate, but they had a lot of introspective music. Post grunge at its height.

@@353scooter I'm pretty partial to "In America," if I had to choose, but it is really hard to pick anything over "My Own Prison." The album is like a can of Pringles, you can't just listen to one song. You turn one on and before you know it you are listening to the whole album.

I always get tears in my eyes when I listen to this song, because it makes me think of my best, and only, friend whom I've known for 18 years. She showed up in my life at the perfect time, right when I needed someone like her the most, and saved it. 💙

One Last Breath from their 2001 album Weathered is really deep in exploring how many of us sometimes feel like “I’m six feet from the edge and I’m thinking, maybe six feet ain’t so far down”. Scott Stapp, the lead singer, was in a car accident the day before they recorded the video. He had been hit from behind but refused to go to the hospital when the police took the accident report even though he had hit the steering wheel and windshield. When the pain got worse, his manager made him go and they said he had whiplash and a concussion. But since they had already committed to the video shoot the next day, he went and did it. They had a doctor on set who had to medicate him to get through the filming. Afterwards, an MRI revealed that his injuries were much worse with a bulging disk in his neck and a smashed disk in his lower back. They say the painful expressions you see on his face in the video are real.

Creed is one of my favs.... that entire kerang period was epic..but short lived..like the scottish happy hardcore scene.. i loved creed.. at the time i lived in a wee town had to pay the local record shop 20 quid plus the 15 quid for the cd to get it sent to me.... back when buying music was exciting.... that kerang period was amazing..imo

I saw them live, right before they hit it big, and they were the best I’ve ever seen live. My Own Prison is the one you should check out next. I’m going to keep requesting these until you get to them: for amazing funk/disco - Heatwave, Boogie Nights - something touching Tori Amos, Winter - and unique Sofi Tukker, Purple Hat. Thanks J!

I think that "person" that he lost was himself. "It feels so good to reunite, within yourself and within your mind".. He also pulls himself out of the water and into the boat. I vaguely remember someone else commenting about this song somewhere else, and I think someone said they saw an interview where the singer said something to do with it being about his prior battle with addictions, or something like that. "When I'm with you, I'm free".. If you add in context of it being about addiction, I could see how the addiction separates you from yourself. Thus, you're not free.. I think the "my sacrifice" could be sacrificing those substances, which allows you to then be "free", and allows you to "reunite within yourself and within your mind." Idk. Maybe I'm off, but that's my interpretation currently.

I miss the old Creed. They made some really good music. With Tremonti doing the Alterbridge thing I don't see a reunion with Scott Stapp bc Myles Kennedy and his killer voice. Alterbridge btw is severely underrated.

Classic legendary perfection…my huge recommendation is new album from Mark Tremonti which was guitarist of Creed , “Tremonti - Marching in Time” , metal masterpiece made with his band , all songs are perfect from this album 🖤

If you liked Creed you need to watch some Alterbridge videos. After Creed broke up the drummer, lead guitar, and bass got another singer named Myles Kennedy. His voice is absolutely heavenly. It is completely different to Scott Stapp, but incredible. I like both Creed and Alterbridge. I have seen Alterbridge a couple times and am going again this February. I cannot wait. You hit the nail on the head when you spoke of losing someone. I lost both my Dad and my sister. I cannot explain how much my world was changed and to this very day if I had a chance to hug them one last time, I would be so happy and grateful. Death or even a break up can be life changing. Thanks for this reaction.

I'd love to hear Jayvon react to some songs by The Kelly Family. They were big in Europe in the late 80's early 90's but they never broke out here in the US and I don't think many Americans have even heard of them. They all have great voices and they have some fantastic songs.

Only band to have the first 4 or 5 songs from debut album to hit #1. The song 'ONE' fits the times we are in right now. With the country going through Americans being undivided and the unfortunate deaths to African Americans and all races for that matter. Play ONE and it will be your favorite. It's deep

You've only done two Creed song? Dude, you need to do more. "Higher" needs to be next, followed by "My Own Prison", "What's This Life For", and "What If?" The singer's name is Scott Stapp. Also - have you done any songs by Live? If not... man. "Lightning Crashes" and "Lakini's Juice" are two of the best songs of the 90s.

I think it would help if you knew Creed was down with Jesus. Creed began in 1994 in Tallahassee, Florida. Founding members vocalist Scott Stapp and guitarist Mark Tremonti had been classmates in high school and friends at Florida State University. Stapp and Tremonti realized that they had a mutual love of writing music and performing. After multiple discussions and times spent writing songs, several of which addressed themes of Christian theology and spirituality due to Stapp's spiritual background as the stepson of a Pentecostal minister, the duo held auditions that led to the recruitment of bassist Brian Marshall, drummer Scott Phillips, and rhythm guitarist Brian Brasher to complete the quintet. This five-piece line-up lasted through 1994, and Brasher left the band in 1995. Creed decided to remain as a four-piece band.

You need to check out Scott’s solo stuff. He has a prequel to arms wide open called Name. It’s 🔥!!! I love all Creed abs Scott’s music!!!! Scott is my all time favorite single artist. I always considered this a spiritual song. Knowing a little about his life, I think he is singing about his relationship with God. He feels he has gone astray (substance abuse, etc...) and wants to return to God. He misses that relationship, but he may or may not be ready to act on it. So he is just remembering and checking in to say, "hello". Just my take on it.

Jay if you think this singer has power you should check out the guy who replaced him. When Scott Stapp's addictions became too great , the band got another singer by the name of Myles Kennedy and renamef the band Alter Bridge. Check out the songs " Blackbird" & " Watch Ovef You" to hear just how amazing Myles is.

If you love the riff/guitar work you should definitely check out Alter Bridge, Mark Tremonti is the guitarist for both bands. Very underrated (Has his own band, Tremonti, as well). Blackbird is one of the most popular Alter Bridge songs amongst fans so check that out!

Dead on Jovan...Magic is right! People say Alterbridge is better than CREED.....but 53 million albums doesn't lie. Creed with ALL it original members is MAGIC. The band made Scott and Scott made the band. Hopefully, one day they can get together again....
