Cyndi caught everyone's attention with that shock of orangey hair and her goofiness, but don't let that distract you from the fact that she has some pipes on her. Yes indeed, that was the girl's anthem of the day. Also, her mom plays her mom in the video. ☺ In case you haven't already, here are a few ladies to check out. Alanis Morisette, Tori Amos, Annie Lennox- Eurythmics, Kate Pierson/Cindy Wilson with the B-52s, Debby Harry with Blondie, Heart, Lindsey Stirling, En Vogue, Chrissie Hynde with the Pretenders, Donna Summer. I'm leaving out a ton. So many talented ladies.
Awesome women singers list. I'd like to add Pat Benetar, Madonna, Halestorm, Evanescence, The Go Go's, The Bangles, Bananarama, Sheryl Crow, and Melissa Etheridge to the list.
Blondie's "Heart of Glass" would be a great pick for "Women on Wednesday". Blondie's lead singer is Debbie Harry, a beautiful, phenomenal singer whose song "Rapture" was one of the first hit singles to feature rapping in it.
Oh, my Mom's last married name was Potts. My brother that had the last name just passed a month ago. so even if no one is related I consider you a cousin.
I asked my husband recently if he knew what the first rap song was, I can't remember what he said, but it definitely wasn't blonde. I don't think he believed me either.
Women Wednesday. Some musts: Tina Turner - What's Love Got To Do With It Bonnie Tyler - Total Eclipse of the Heart (we all sing in our car to this one) Janet Jackson - Rythm Nation or Nasty Pat Benetar - We Belong
As a fellow Ottawanian GO Alanis!! Ironic, Hand in my Pocket and of course You Oughta Know!! Also a Canadian girl is Sarah McLachlan Angle, I will remember you, building a mystery. Really anything from Surfacing and Fumbling Towards Ecstasy. Both fantastic albums.
Everyone thought when she first appeared on the scene that she was a Madonna wanna-be, but Cyndi Lauper quickly distinguished herself....she is a very talented lady.
Sade is pronounced “SHA-DAY” :). Love all her songs, but Is It A Crime gets my vote for a first reaction to her music. Love them. Love all the comments/suggestions.
She did this song to prove how powerful her voice was. No one can sing it like she did still till this day. The notes she hits and stuff. She has an amazing voice.
Women on Wednesday can’t miss out on NENA - 99 red balloons. The only female German artist to ever top the charts in Canada, Japan, Australia and the UK, reaching Nr. 2 in the US billboard charts. Nena really kicks ass until today!
Troy Edwards yes, I remember all those wrestlers from WWF I believe it was called back then. Goodies R Good Enough video has a bunch of wrestlers from that era too 👍🏼
@@glenncabacungan9269 Yeah. I thought that was a cute Easter Egg to his fans. I used to watch this Saturday AM cartoon with all the popular wrestlers at the time. He was one of them.
The guy that plays her father in this video was a WWE wrestler back in the day. His name was Captain Lou Albano. He was one of the big wrestlers at that time. He was one of the good guys at that time with Andre the Giant and Hulk Hogan, and a few others. Oh, and back then, it was called WWF. Today, its called the WWE. Finally, I just love you guys. I love the fact that y'all are checking out all genres of music, different eras and find something that you always like in it. So cool. And YES, I'm an 80s baby. I was a little girl when this came out.
Both of these are great songs but I feel like they lose some of the rambunctious spirit of her persona. In my opinion a better second reaction would be Money Changes everything or SheBop.
Women on Wednesday suggestions: Sinead O'Connor ("Nothing Compares 2U"); Christina Aguilara, Missy Elliot et al ("Lady Marmalade"); Stevie Nicks ("Edge of Seventeen"); Dusty Springfield ("Son of a Preacher Man"); TLC ("Waterfalls").
Consider for other Women on Wednesday videos Janet Jackson - Nasty Madonna - Like a Prayer Cher -Turn back time Pat Benatar -Shadows of the Night Tina Turner- What’s Love got to do with it
Laura Bailey Tina Turner was once voted the female singer with the most power and widest range. Amy Lee (Evanescence) only got an honourable mention. Tina’s legs were also legendary!
This song was a MONSTER HIT! No one sounds like her and no one ever will. Her voice is like a pinball machine on speed and produces sounds that defy understanding. This could be one of the most perfect, exuberant pop songs of all time. In 200 years, this song will still be a hit and an anthem for girls around the world. More amazing tracks: "She Bop" "All Through the Night" I Drove All Night" "Like a Cat" "Money Changes Everything"
One of the favorite between a few of my "girl" friends. She was ahead of her time from the first day she broke into mainstream. She's wild entertainment when you see her live. A musical genius. And loads of fun!
Women ‘s Wednesday, checkout Fleetwood Mac “Dreams” and “Silver Springs.” Stevie Nicks has a haunting and unique sound. Also, Amy Winehouse “Me and Mr Jones”, “I Love You More Than You’ll Ever Know” and “Tears Dry on Their Own.” Amy was so talented and left us too soon. Women's national anthem had me busted up hard ‼️😂 That house party was so on fire, that the fire department came and joined in‼️ Girls just want to have fun and guys want to have fun with girls as well💯🔥😁👍🏼
You guys must listen to Barbra Streisand and Donna Summer sing "No more tears- Enough is Enough", Madonna sing "Vogue" and "Like a Virgin", the group En Vogue sing "Free your Mind" and "Never Gonna Get it"
Fun fact: this song was originally written and recorded by a man (Robert Hazard, you can find it on RU-vid) and had a totally different meaning (and sound).
