Bowie gets so many plaudits and rightly so, but listen to this and you understand the genius of Mick Ronson. Brilliant.

he was one of those super intelligent rock stars- who surrounded themselves with unreal talent. piled on top of his own. maybe the best artist in my lifetime (....elton john?).

Back when this Spiders From Mars album was released, I bought it for a friend as a thank you for her introducing me to Bowie with the Hunky Dory record. We listened to it together and as soon as we finished the album, I went back to the record store and bought a copy for myself. Sheer genius.

Back in the day, that would've been an amazing gift. We didn't have access to music like we do today so when you got a new record or tape, especially as a gift, that's what you were listening to for the next 13 days. 😊

You're not the only one to get their mind blown. The first time I heard this was in 1st grade art class in late 72 and I was 6 at the time. Everything just stopped including me and my jaw hit the floor. I'd never heard anything like it although I absolutely loved all kinds of music...from soul to old school country like Jim Reeves and Johnny Cash.

With David Bowie’s Absolutely Amazing Vocals & Songwriting along with Mick Ronson on Piano Melotron String Arraignments and Ronson’s Other Worldly Guitar Solo makes Moonage Daydream my Favorite Song on Bowie’s Signature Album

I can’t add anything better to your comment so I’m just going to endorse it 💯 and thank you 🙏 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

If you liked this, you should lend an ear to Somebody Up There Likes Me from his Young Americans album. Soul/R&B/Gospel - all rolled into one epic tune. Great sax and incredible vocals. One of my all time faves of his catalog. Same album: Right, Can You Hear Me and Fascination.

@@jaymacgee_A_Bawbag_Blethering same here, how lucky we are to have been alive and young enough to start a journey that lasted years listening to Bowie and is still going strong. I read there is lots of unreleased tracks as well. Hope we get to hear some undiscovered stuff in the future.

Liston to the live version
@jaymacgee_A_Bawbag_Blethering
Absolutely ! It’s like Queen Bitch , I heard a live version on The Old Grey Whistle Test in the uk which electrified me but the album version is tepid in my opinion … both are in RU-vid 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

This Track , on David Live , with the Sax , and one Slick , Earl Slick , rips it right up
@jaymacgee_A_Bawbag_Blethering
Without a shadow of a doubt the live footage of this song from their final ever appearance is the definitive version of this . When David sings “ put your ray gun to my head “… there’s a woman in the audience the camera focuses on briefly who’s entranced and so into the experience … it’s haunted me for nearly 50 years … I aspire to that sort of oneness with the song/ band / experience … these fools you see at gigs these days so intent on capturing the experience with a selfie … are missing the fkn true experience !! They suck donkey balls in my opinion !! 😅 This track also shines a light on a major part of Bowies early success , his guitarist and arranger Mick Ronson … genuine legend ✊ 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

The clip you referenced is from the "Ziggy Stardust" film. I love that scene. I often think she is the true essence of rock and roll...
@jaymacgee_A_Bawbag_Blethering
@@jonathanlocke6404 I feel an instant fellowship with you sir ! I knew I couldn’t be the only one who was transfixed by her devotion and utter abandonment to the moment she found herself in . It’s a snapshot , a moment in time for me . I don’t want to meet her or even find out what became of her , she just represents every emotion I felt when I watched that film and often wonder how she felt at the end when he suddenly announced he’d broke up the band right there and then and effectively broken the spell . Nice to hear from you sir 👌 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

@jonathanlocke6404 Год назад
@@jaymacgee_A_Bawbag_Blethering I have always wondered if this was something she created and practiced at home, miming along to the record, or something that she just felt in the moment...I think either way is pretty awesome. That whole move she does during "press your space face close to mine, love" is genius...
@jaymacgee_A_Bawbag_Blethering
@@jonathanlocke6404 agreed 💯 Jonathan, I’d always thought it was a reaction to the moment , and your right , when she did that movement with her hands pressed together on both cheeks during the song I just melted ! She was beautiful and was clearly transported at that moment in time . We CANT be the only 2 that came away affected by her , I’m sure of that . D A Pennybaker , it just came to me there … well googled it anyway 😆, was the guy who filmed that iconic last Ziggy gig . How lucky was HE ? 🤷‍♂️ 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
