The song as even Elton says is about his successful recovery from a broken past relationship. He tells his ex that he has moved on and is better off without them. The singer first describes his past lover as a pretentious cold-hearted person who will probably end up revealing their true colors soon.He uses the phrase “I’m still standing” to depict his rising up from the hurt which made him fall. He sees himself as a survivor who has been able to pick back the broken pieces of his life without thinking of his ex.

I understood it to be a statement to the critics who had trashed him from 1976 to the early 80s. That’s the gist of what he and Bernie said when they were promoting the album. But it could also be about a relationship of Elton’s and for that matter one of Bernie’s since they are Bernie’s lyrics.

Elton John was pretty outrageous in his dress apparel at least on stage especially in the 70s and 80s . In 1982 to 1986 there was a barrage of mega--hits or it just seemed like an exceptional amount of giant hits ( mega sales ) etc.

This was a return to the top, after his career basically fell apart from stress and drugs in the mid 70s. This is also the return of the original band. The album was written and recorded in about two weeks, and spent more than a year on the Billboard charts.

Elton had so many catchy songs, in the 80's he had the pop songs, in the 70's he had the longer songs. He wore flamboyant clothes and goofy glasses. hes a true original.

The guy in the black one-piece at the beginning of the video is Bruno Tonioli, who has been one of the judges on "Dancing With The Stars" for years. This is one of my favorite Elton songs. Takes me right back to my junior high school days. Effervescent 80s pop is the best!

LOL. This wasn't average every day wear for regular people during that time. I mean some prob did, but it wasn't like a fashion trend. The dancers in the video are heavily costumed--even for that time.

Another good video to review is Elton John's Wrap Her Up. George Michael sang back up on two songs on that album: Wrap Her Up and Nikita. Nikita is also a beautiful song. Keep up the fun videos!

Film clip is directed by Australian Russell Mulcahy. He was the hot director at the time for music videos. In the era where MTV made/broke a song due to the quality of videos. okay a lot of people who like Elton John Don't like This song or '80s music and 90s music he did well the '90s music was surrounding Disney movies I understand that but these '80s songs are all good just like his '70s music just all good I love this song in particular it says hey you trying to hurt me but here I am there's nothing you can do that it's just going to knock me and floor me I like it

Check out "Can You Feel The Love Tonight" or "Word in Spanish" also. Slower songs but also good. Else " I Don't Wanna Go On With You Like That". More similar to this one.

The guy in the black leotard and the red trousers you asked what is he wearing is Bruno Tonioli who has been a judge on strictly come dancing and the US version dancing with the stars.he is a ballroom,Latin dancer and at the time of this video a choreographer.i was about 11 when this came out.they filmed it in Cannes France where they have the film festival every year.
