I saw two Elvis concerts 75& 77

And Elvis had it from his head to his toes!! 2021

He had a serious heart condition as well. And was on several medications.

He fused different styles of music to make an interesting sound.

Elvis's favorite movie with King Creole II was Jailhouse Rock Love Me Tender was okay that was his first movie and then Follow That Dream wild in the country Viva Las Vegas but the rest of them became so formulaic he got bored and Had Creative disappointment but they all were sold out they were money makers because Elvis was not performing on stage at that time that's the only way people could see him so they went just to see him even if the strips or kind of lousy some of them but not all of them then he did The 1968 Comeback Special on television which were really great great reviews feeling very high numbers in the Nielsen ratings. So his manager asked if he wanted to go on tour again because of the success of the television special and so they started touring all over the country and Las Vegas the rest is history!

Exactly, but i have to correct you at one point. He did 2 shows a day. The dinner show and the midnight show. Usually in August and December each for 4-5 weeks.

There's also a biography of Elvis by former Rolling Stone writer Jerry Hopkins. It's a quicker read than the previously mentioned bios but still entertaining. It lays out how things came about and why without imposing a subjective point of view or taking sides.

William Quinlan yeah. I bought that book in 1971/72. It was a good book. I got my first glimpse into Elvis. He was very good at describing how Elvis felt when he first stepped on that stage in Vegas July 31 1969 and from then on I bugged my dad to take me to Vegas and we did finally Aug 24th 1972. Dinner show. WOW

William Quinlan I was 14 and I felt like a little school girl when he walked on stage. I was 20 feet away and the electricity was off the charts. Saw him again in 74 and 76. Both great shows but a little further away. He still blew the roof off the Forum and the Omni.

"It Happened At The World's Fair". And years later, Kurt Russell played Elvis in a movie!

Some people believe it may have been as high as 2 billion people watching it which was half the world's population at the time. Some countries had like a 90 viewership which is insane.

@depper - Good link you shared. My friend is the one that made that video years ago. To everything you mentioned above I would only add that something many Elvis historians have overlooked or missed over the years is we can go further back than Memphis with his going to visit the black church in 1950s segregated times. We need to go further back years before that, in Tupelo when he was a child. People like Sam Bell said Elvis was actually living right across the street from him and how *Elvis was part of the black community*. The myth is that he had to walk to go be around black American musicians, but the reality is *he was living directly among them for some time*. Sam Bell gave one interview about how Elvis as a kid would be the only white child that would be going with him and his family and friends to the gospel tent revivals. Of course later when Elvis and his parents moved to Memphis the natural progression for him as a high-schooler was to visit Herbert Brewster's Baptist Church, as you mentioned above. Extra interesting to history is Herbert Brewster wasn't just a well-known preacher, he was also a legendary Gospel song-writer back in that era and a powerful civil rights activists. He spoke in many more interviews over the years than just the one on my friends video documentary. He spoke in a couple interviews about not only Elvis's legit talent, but he also spoke of Elvis's Humanity and Generosity in one of his interviews. I've always said Herbert Bruster's endorsement and serious respect spoken for Elvis cannot be understated in importance. Anyway. Agree with your points, just adding some extra info

@@JonBurrows3577 If you have it in your mind to wonder how much of the racist hate in that video was real or recreated then I honestly would recommend researching the actual history of that era. (Not Elvis History...I mean serious time spebt research on subject of "Jim Crow 1950s") People like myself that have background & years researching & writing about that specific era know all too well that it was extremely reap ... and even more so than that video showed. His video actually only scratched the surface. It barely showed anything compared to what really was going on. There were mock, symbolic lynchings of Elvis look-alike mannequins and dummies with a rope hung around its neck hung done by crowds of people in various cities and in some college campuses around the country back at that time to symbolize the resentment lot of white folks had for "Elvis singing black music". Charles Connors (Little Richard and James Browns personal drummer) said after a show one night in Texas the police threw Little Richard and the whole band in jail. He said the next morning when they were released, the police told them - "Go tell your n-loving friend Elvis, that when he comes back to Texas we'll be looking for reasons to put him in jail also". All that type nonsense & hate was normal day-to-day stuff happening on the regular. A lot of people have no clue about any of that stuff going on because too much slop historian over the years haven't covered it. But those of us that research deeper find out there was a whole lot of that on the regular going on. Honestly even though my friend made that video, I'm not promoting it, I'm not even the one that shared it on this thread. That was Depper. But his video is only scratching the surface, there is a whole lot more that could be covered on that subject and it would take a much longer video or documentary.

Oops I meant to say the 68 Comeback Special on television where he's wearing a black leather jacket it was a 1 hour special you can get the whole thing but I'll know Google it just shows him when he's singing in the black leather jacket with it is a variety to the special if you want to check that out they have to probably buy the CD for that
