This man, Rakim, I can't explain appropriately how this man completely changed emceeing. Every emcees that came post-1986 owes this man a debt of gratitude as his style of using adjectives and his overall flow has been used by EVERYONE! He is the GOAT of all emcees.
This song is 🔥🔥🔥 Kane and Rakim were different, but their wordplay was both genius and deserve similar, huge respect. They are both on my TOP10 of all time 😅 If you are looking for more top lyricism from 80s, I really have to recommend you to check out more Kool Moe Dee. I swear that "Let's Go" is one of the best lyrical disses I ever heard, and people hardly mention it even only in context of beef with LL Cool J. Other great track is also "Rise & Shine" (feat KRS One and Chuck D from PE).
Just Jammin'. With regards to your reaction, let me take you back to 1988 when this was released. NO ONE was rhyming like this back then. And if you also take into account that the brother was 19 years old, that's what makes it even more dope. If you also take into account the time, his age, etc... trust me your reaction would be on a grander scale. Trust me, from someone who was enjoying this and others from this time. INCREDIBLE!
Taken from Eric B. & Rakim's second studio album 'Follow the Leader' released in 1988. You'd be hard pressed to find a better three track run than "Follow the Leader", "Lyrics of Fury" and "Microphone Fiend".
Just Jammin…. I just saw u react to me trying to get u to react to Rakim’s “Let the rhythm hit em” Update… the video has he and Eric B getting chased by the cops while Ra flows throw the whole video! It’s the 1st of its kind!!!! For that era!!!!! U will definitely ❤️this!!!!! The flow! Word play! The swag!!!! The multi syllable words!!! Nothing like this!!!!!👀💯🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤
My generation in Hip Hop had no computers, cellphones, internet or social media! Beepers didn’t even exist either (some may not know beepers😆)! Everything was underground until Ralph McDaniels, co-creator of “Video Music Box”! It plays every afternoon @ 4pm on your local public tv channel! That was the beginning in bringing mass exposure to Hip Hop! Prior to that, we shopped to our favorite street spots in the 5 boroughs of NYC to buy mixed tapes! Imagine awards shows didn’t considered it as music! MTV didn’t featured black music artists until the “King Of Pop” Michael Jackson’s Thriller album! The white youth demanded that MTV plays MJ’s thriller videos! We owed respect to everyone that contributed so much to the culture!
Just jammin…. Have u reacted to Rakims “Let the Rhythm hit em” yet? This is mines and many hip hop heads one of the best HipHop songs of all time!!! His flow!!!!!!! On this song is 👀👀👀👀
GOAT! The drum line is a sample from James Brown "Funky Drummer". When you're ready for more from them, check out "Microphone Fiend", "Let The Rhythm Hit Em", "I Ain't No Joke", "Don't Sweat The Technique", "I Know You Got Soul", "Paid in Full", "As The Rhyme Goes On", "In The Ghetto" ...
Check out: "Juice (know the ledge)" - "Run for cover" - "Eric B. is president" - "Put your hands together" - "I know you got soul" - "Eric B. never scared"...Pure Fire! Guaranteed!! 😎👍🤟🔥
Thumbs 👍 5 🌟 Definitely a hall-of-famer Just imagine being in the mid eighties and this stuff comes out of nowhere these lyrical Geniuses just blow you away
Right!!! Because Rakim was the standard. The great thing about it was he wasn’t the only standard. LL and KRS were also the standard. They were the lyrical giants at that time. If any one of them was beginning their careers now, with those lyrics and today’s music, they’d be regarded today just like they were during their era.
Just Jammin… The Rakim songs u now have to react to that u will definitely like better than Big Daddy Kane’s “Raw” Is Rakim’s “Let the Rhythm hit em” “Follow The Leader” “Microphone Fiend”
