The first time I heard this one on the radio I loved it but my favorite part has always been "I want the things that I had before like a Star Wars poster on my bedroom door"!!!!! Just gives it that personal touch. You can sit down and write any old generic song about divorce from a child's point-of-view, but these little personal flourishes like this really lets you know that he is singing from the heart and he lived it!

I just love them so much. There was a period when California bands were just pure gold I mean every single one of them. You hear the cliches about everybody having a band in their garage. Matchbox 20 or rather the core members called Tabitha's Secret at the time and Everclear were some of the successes that they were talking about. They made it big working colleges and then just triple-platinum overnight. Taking the World by storm it proved that you could be Middle America aspiring musicians and just hit it big. Plus if you ever heard that song I want to be a rockstar yeah it's like that. Except some people can back it up and Everclear and Matchbox Twenty were some of the ones that could. Great video.❤

Every parent who goes through a divorce should have to watch this... For their children's sake. Children see more and and feel more than we realize. The parents get so worked up in their own fighting that they forget about the kids. I'm not saying that they should stay together for the kids. But just don't act like "oh they're just kids they don't understand." They realize more than you know, but to them their entire world revolves around mom & dad. And now it's changing drastically and sometimes violently. Just don't tell them it's all ok. Help them understand it's ok to feel upset and that things aren't ok right now but they will get better over time. When I went through my divorce when my kids were little I remembered how I felt when my parents got divorced and I played this song for my kids so that they knew I understood how scary it must all feel but that we would all face it together and that they could talk about anything any time.

Man, I love reaction videos, cuz, let's be honest, it's fun to listen to music with others. But, this hit me harder than I realized. My brother is going through a nasty divorce/custody battle with 4 and 5 year old girls. I loved this song as a teenager, and listening to it again now, is like hearing it for the first time. I really feel for my poor nieces. They have been a big part of me and my wifes lives, and I have to wonder if that will change when the custody battle is over. I don't know what I will say to these girls on the day they ask ME why their parents split up. Thanks for this. This song has more meaning for me than it used to.

❤ also I'd like to tell you thank you for covering Everclear because songs like that were about grief over loss of expectations. When you're a kid and you just don't understand the world around you you don't understand why your parents fight and don't get along. You grieve just like day grief when they get divorced and it's very much like a death because there is a whole life just gone and kids just don't understand that. I think they were trying to give kids someone's commiserate with because a lot of people just didn't understand their struggle for their pain. Of being told and different direction by parents that don't get along anymore and they just are scrambling not understanding why it is. And you can hear the real anger in the songwriters of boys that these kids are so frustrated and in pain. The smile is to show you that people smile when they're unhappy scary. They paste a happy face over something really sad.😢 I love that song. I love all their music to be honest.
