One of best metal band of the last decades .;the from mars to sirius album has definitely a particular sound , it's from this album considered as their magnum opus ,that Gojira really found his signature , but each album has a different vibe and they're more sifter now as they got older , and spoiler alert they're better live , check oroborus/the heaviest matter of the universe live garorock 2009 dude !

You won't understand it yet but all of the songs are composed, at least 95%, that well, out of all their albums. I'll let you in on a secret 🤣 My guilty pleasure is driving home from work putting gojira reaction in the search bar, maybe two different bands besides them, and clicking upload date to see the newest one because I like them that much and I love to see somebody say f*** yeah like you just did when they realize how awesome they are. And you know how bands change over time and have different versions of themselves, I like all of their versions, 😂. Just saw Gojira last night in Brisbane and they were incredible. 3rd time I've seen them and they just get better and better. Can confirm the large use of strobe lights so that might be a deal breaker for you. They are so much heavier live which is saying something!

You need to watch this band live. They are better live than in studio. Hard to pick a song with Gojira, but I like the live version of L'enfant sauvage.

I'd seen Gojira open for Behemoth in 2008 in a tiny bar in St. Paul... and honestly... I knew they were good, but I had no idea how big they would get... They opened for Slayer in 2013... and when I saw them open for Mastodon in 2014, the mosh pits erupted from the opening track to the end of their set. They came up that fast after being around for over a decade... Gojira is a play on the name "Godzilla" ... they started as a technical death metal band in the 90's in France, but sharpened their focus on more environmental themes in lyrics, and eventually sounded like an extreme metal fusion of Meshuggah & Fear Factory... Gojira are: brothers Joe Duplantier (vocals & guitar) and Mario Duplantier (drums), Christian Andreu (lead guitar) and Jean-Michel Labadie (bass)........ Gojira became a live extreme metal sensation in France and released 2 albums - 'Terra incognita' (2001) and 'The Link' (2003) and were eventually signed worldwide for the album 'From Mars to Sirius' (2005)... which had this track 'Backbone'... tracks like 'Flying whales' and 'The heaviest matter in the universe' ... became early faves as Gojira toured the USA and Canada. 'The way of all flesh' (2008) was another progression for Gojira as their popularity kept growing as they opened for a number of major metal bands. "L' Enfant Sauvage" (2012) became the record that put Gojira on the map firmly by 2015... 'Magma' (2016) was an album that fused for stoner rock elements of Ghost, Queens of the Stone Age... to deliver a very different Gojira record that debuted at #24 on the US charts, as Gojira began headlining their own shows. Their latest album 'Fortitude' (2021) charted at #12 in the US and Gojira are even more popular than ever today.

I’m glad you enjoyed your intro to the mighty Gojira (Japanese translation of Godzilla I believe, which was their original name)! I like your description of the rhythm guitar, it’s a feature of their ‘technical death metal’ style. What makes them different in this genre is their songs have environmental and spiritual themes, supporting the Amazon and Sea Shepherd for example. I believe brothers Mario (insane drummer) and Joe (guitar, singer) Duplantier share the song writing and production. Theyve refined their sound a little in more recent albums, a bit more accessible and it may be worth exploring some there to really hook you in, then go back to their more full on, progressive era. 🤘

I don't know. Gojira is one of those bands that I can enjoy a track or two but then everything from instruments to vocals starts to sound so monotone. I understand guitar solos is not something they really do but it really doesn't help with variety.
