Beechnut is a brand of chewing tobacco and I imagine if you "spit some Beechnut" in someone eyes that would burn like crazy, but he goes on to say he would shoot him with his old .45 so I guess the dude wouldn't have to worry about his eyes burning for very long. If you want to listen to some beautiful ballads by Hank Jr. you should react to "Rainin' in My Heart" or "Heaven Can't Be Found."

Beachnut like most chewing tobacco would sting like hell and if not properly washed out could cause temporary blindness. Though as you mention, He'd likely not be seeing much after the .45. then again It's all in shot placement. If I had to guess. I'd wager he'd go for a belly shot. Seems the "revenge" and spite type of placement. He may get to enjoy the beachnut too. Though what hurts worse...the .45. I was always a redman fella myself. redman and a knee shot. I think. but I digress.

I was in High School when this song came out. This was our anthem!! You could hear every high school kid blaring this one in their car everywhere we went. Especially at the barn. And, yes, most of us drove trucks, and most of those trucks had a rope and a gun hanging in the back window. A date for me and my (later) husband was hunting or fishing. Wintertime was for killin hogs on his grandaddy's farm. And, call it what you want, the women were in the kitchen cooking for the men out in the cold doing the hard work. Country people just work different *shrug*

He did have a friend that was killed in New York City. His name was Michael and sometimes when he sings the song live in concert he will actually say my friend Mike lost his life. Junior does like to change the words of the song when he's singing to how he feels. There is also a Hank Williams III that sounds just like his grandfather and you might want to check him out

The thing I love about this song is it puts into perspective that while yes we can survive because of all of this it’s all earned through the sweat and blood you pour out to earn these skills. Country living has always been hard and it requires them to rely on those around us and it’s why you can always trust someone from the country because they live in the community that if you don’t help others they won’t help you. It’s hard living, but all the more rewarding for it. I will say I am proud to have been raised this way and continue to pass it on.

I like "Family Tradition" - it reflects on his feelings about the legacy of his famous father, and on the reaction by the country music establishment when he and the other "outlaws" moved away from the tradition styles in the 1970s. If you listen to "All My Rowdy Friends are Coming Over Tonight" be sure and watch the official video. There are cameos from a LOT of country legends.

Hank is part of a dying breed. He sings what he knows. When seeing him live you can bet that you wont be able to sing along with all of every song because he likes to keep it fresh, he can play every instrument you see on stage (and many that aren't) and that there will be girls dancing somewhere on or just off stage. He thinks highly of himself but I can't say that he is wrong either...\

You'll never see him, without the hat, beard, and sunglasses. In 1975,he was climbing in Montana and fell almost 500 ft., when the snow gave way. He nearly died and went through a 2 year recovery, with numerous surgeries, to rebuild his busted face. The beard, hat, and glasses hide all the scars. It's incredible, from performing as a young child to his fall down a mountain. He is very Right Wing, but the following suggestions seem to skirt the topic. 'Why Can't We All Get a Long Neck' 'Tear in my Beer' 'That's How They Do It in Dixie' The Conversation (with Waylon Jennings)' 'The F Word (with Kid Rock)' Although the best version of 'The Conversation' is by Alan Jackson, imnsho.

Man... I grew up in the country, lived in the city for college, lived in Japan for a couple years, and then when I came back to the U.S. I started working and setting aside everything I could just so I could get back to living in the country. The calm, the beauty, the freedom, being able to get away from the constant bombardment of social interaction and noise. I'll take the minor inconvenience of having to drive further for everything, because it's the only way to live for me. Grew up riding tractors, dirt bikes, four wheelers, go karts, snowmobiles, etc. Basically, if it had an engine and wheels, we're outside riding it, getting dirty, getting hurt, and having a hell of a time. I hope you have a good time going off roading!

His father was the country legend Hank Williams Sr., and both have lived incredibly hard lives. The song "Family Tradition" talks about some of the times of similar experiences he shared with his dad. Talent runs right down the line as there is a Hank Williams III also. He, however, is of a different genre of music. H.W.III did start out doing some remakes of his grandad's classics that are really good. I am so sorry to hear that you had such a deprived childhood to have never played in mud. Enjoy the fun of catching up! Signed, A Country Girl who has survived!

The next one by Hank Jr. should be "Family Tradition", it would fit your format perfectly. Also look into his son Hank III, you have done some original Hank Sr stuff here and Hank III looks much more like Sr, sounds like him a bit too when he does his country stuff. All three are great.

You learned what your exposed to. One side is not better than another just different. I love that you are branching out from what is comfortable. This breeds respect and understanding for fellow countrymen and fosters a feeling of accomplishment and self respect and pride when you complete a task you might have never thought you were capable of. Growth, understanding and acceptance will heal our country despite the media and politicians. Standing up for other's rights even when they disagree with you will save our country. Where have all the Statesmen gone??

I have many fond memories making mud pies when I was a child. And now I just like to have my hands in the dirt. It's a healing and beautiful thing. This song is one that is a part of who I am. I grew up in north Florida and southwest Georgia, playing in the dirt, the woods and building trails. I grew up with men who hunted and fished....I fished too. Now. I am also living just outside of Atlanta, growing and preserving as much food as I can. Hands still in the soil. Country Boy Can Survive silently playing in the background of my mind and soul. This way of being and lifestyle gets into your being. People talk about sustainability, getting back to the dirt, the Earth and living simply. Feeling like we all need to get back to that.

He changed it to Montana instead of western sky because he was with a guide on a mountain. Hank slipped and fell, hitting his face on a rock. He wears the shades and cowboy hat to hite the scars. Guys a total legend He slipped and fell 500 feet "Sustaining serious head injuries as he struck jutting rocks."

Mr. L Boyd, you and I are 2 sides of the same coin. I was raised in the countriest of country settings. My father built the house my mother still lives in. She has no power lines, no internet, and no pavement. I moved to the East Coast, and now am a tobacconist. I have learned how to be a business man. I can still plow a field all day long, and I can still skin a buck. It feels more important now than any other time in my life to be able to do both. Good luck on your journey dude.

Idk where my first comment ended up about the slower love version. Hank is a true artist and storyteller. Welcome to the south and props on the big truck, getting dirty, and learning another way of life. We all need that diversity in our lives. Mad props for spending time reviewing this. Yeah, the lyrics were changed here and there just because it was a live version. I’m guessing this was performed in Montana.

My husband was around him for 13 years when he played professional guitar and fiddle. He played with him a few times. I just found his tour jacket from 1987! Vernon Derrick played for Hank for years and he was my husbands neighbor and taught him how to play fiddle. My hubby told me Hank would get on the bus and say okay boys y’all know what I am doing to be doing. No one interrupt me unless you dying. He would then go to the back of the bus and by the time they got to their next destination he has written songs and the music. My husband absolutely loved being around him.

Great break down and glad to hear you're trying to expand. Coming from Chicago I find the more rural I get, the happier I am and learning all the things I missed out on as well. It's not for everyone, but definitely gratifying. We're all great people and we all need to branch out more. I try to help the rural folk understand more about big city and urban with what I understand and they help me understand their ways. One thing he didn't mention, there are few more true and loyal than a person from the country. Obviously exceptions are everywhere, but some great people.

Hank Williams Jr. Changed the lyrics during this live performance from " western skies" to "Montana Skies" because all of his fans and audience no his back story. He fell off a 500 ft. Cliff on the side of a mountain while hunting. It took hours to get him to a hospital and help. His face practically was ripped off. This was sometime in the late 60's or early 70's. The doctors didn't think it was possible for him to live. He was in the hospital for many many months and had to have many surgeries over the years to reconstruct his face. Their is a movie about his life that was put out in the 80's that tells his life story. Btw.... Beechnut is a name brand of chewing tobacco.

Brother you will have a greater appreciation for food once you have stalked , harvested and prepared the meat. Fish taste better when they are caught, cleaned and cooked deep fried on a deep in the back yard and the wives and girl friends bring over homemade side dishes. Always made up plates for the older folks in the neighbor hood....there was always plenty. You have the right idea....broaden your horizons...you'll be surprised at what you've missed. I do enjoy listening to you react! Long time fan!
