IU is deaf and/or mute while Tae is blind in one eye. The cube represents society and how it tries to destroy things or people who are "different". When they look at each other through the camera and in the photo booth it shows that love is blind and they don't see the "faults" that others might see and judge them for. In their eyes, through their love, and because of it the world is full of color and life. As a final act of love IU covers Tae's good eye to keep him from seeing the end even though they're both terrified and it's an interesting spin since men tend to be the heroic ones in movies.
