Don't let some of the younger metalheads get ya down the wrong road. I started listening to metal in 1984, and I can promise you that the metal culture is the most warm, welcoming, accepting cultures you will ever find. I'm 50, still get into pits... Ya gotta pick your pits individually. Some are REALLY REALLY rough, but yet if you get knocked down, guarantee you that someone picks you up and makes sure you're good to go. Believe it or not, as violent as the pits get, it's always fraternal and an amazing release, and so much fun. Ya just gotta know you're going to take some lumps. Totally worth it.

This is pure technique. She is not destroying her voice at all. She is using a mix of false vocal cords growls, fry , and overtone techniques (she is actually producing 2 notes at the same time). It's years of training what you are seeing here. Taty is simply one of the best, be it male or female.

Yessss. I’ve been waiting for this! Loved the reaction, of course. But what stood out to me is how you both read the comments and remembered things people told you. That’s rare with lots of reaction channels. 😊 About the mosh pit, essentially the entire standing crowd in front of the stage is the mosh pit. When they run around in circles, that’s a circle pit. Mosh pits are generally a lot more aggressive than in this video (and it’s usually a lot of pushing and shoving people). If you watch Jinjer’s official video for “Teacher, Teacher”, you’ll see what I mean. When I last saw Jinjer, I had to fight off a huge hairy sweaty drunk dude who thought he was going to push his way in front of me. He was pushing past so many people and no one was doing anything about it. I shut that shit down real quick. I’ve gotten into several fights in the pit. Years ago, I almost got my ribs crushed in a pit too. It’s no joke, for sure. Looking forward to your next Jinjer reaction! I’d highly recommend the “Judgment and Punishment” one- take (for a little bit of reggae) or the official videos for “Teacher, Teacher” or “Home Back”. 🤘🏻

Omg!!! We literally read every comment!! So even if there is no response WE SEE IT!! ☺️ It’s crazy to think how people want to go and be in such a crazy environment but I feel like the culture is much more different with Rick than any other genre I’ve seen!! And good for you... somebody had to do shut it down!! If you let people walk over you, THEY WILL... aNf now that you e told me the SEVERITY of going in the pit... I now know to run the other way in those instances... I’m sure it’s s bunch of fun, but also gets wild!! Stay safe, and thanks for tapping in with us!! We have more coming! ❤️ -Asia

@@AsiaandBJ Actually most mosh pits are quite safe and people really care about each other. If someone falls, ten hands will gofor this person in less than a second. It's mostly for fun, but there is almost everytime that one moron that thinks he owns the space and gets actually dangerous. Then, in the hardcore punk scene it's a bit different, as there's a whole "choregraphy" move in the pit, but this is more serious. If you want to see a pit in the mood "everyone was hurt in the making of this video", try Knocked Loose - "Billy no mates". But this is extreme.

@@jen.g. yeah i know that too, going at concerts for more than 20 years now. And I'm not into mosh pits neither. Maybe the difference is that I've mostly been to quite underground shows, avoiding big venues for years now (Jinjer in december 2019 has been the exception since.... I think the last big ones were Cult of Luna and Oathbreaker, years ago). So less people, less people discovering the scene that want to prove something to the others (and not only young), less space to do that kind of shit too, less over-alcoolized people.... maybe that explains a bit my perception. The last show I saw before the pandemic was by the spanish band Drei Affen, I think you might dig it. But on the other hand, I remember receiving accidentally a punch in the plexus in... maybe 2008, during a Hatebreed show in a festival, it's been hard to enjoy the music after that. Luckily, after them came Neurosis, so it was a lot calmer and enjoyable. Ok I'll stop here. Anyways, keep enjoying music, that remains the important thing in the end !

Great performance, great reaction. Understand that Wacken Open Air is the largest Metal festival in the world. This was Jinjer's first appearance at the festival. They had an 11:00 am time slot on the Friday of the festival, yet they were highlighted as the featured band in the Friday highlights video. They killed it!!!!! This performance of Perennial is better than the studio version. This was also the second stage. The main stage at Wacken is fucking insane. Another great live performance is Pit of Consciousness, live in Kiev.

I never liked growling, but I love it when Tatiana does it. The more you explore this band, the more you will really like them. They mix many genres and always have a heavy part of most or all of their songs. The call themselves an extreme band. I think that this show at Wacken in 2019 put them on the map.
@kiern01

I’m not a singer, but from what I understand, the growling sound is done by relaxing the vocal cords, and relying on the false vocal cords to make the sound. That’s why it doesn’t hurt her voice, and why she can switch back and forth so effortlessly. It takes a lot of skill to do it properly. She is an amazing talent.

The Growl is called harsh vocals while the non growl is revered to as cleans. She is not using her vocal chords to make the growl, its another part of the throat that's use called the vestibular folds also.called the false vocal chords. If you tried to sing like that with the regular vocal chords you would seriously damage them rather quickly. For other female singers that use this technique check out Alissa from Arch Enemy(and Kamelot), Courtney from Spiritbox, and Otep from Otep.

Nice reaction guys. So in regards to Tati's vocals, they are often refered to as "harsh" or "extreme" vocals, or also "growling". Tati calls them "harsh" vocals. It's funny because I've been listening to metal for over 40 years, and I never liked "growling" vocals at all, then I found Jinjer, by mistake actually (long story) and I was blown away. This song and live video of Perennial was actually the very first song I heard from Jinjer. I remember saying to myself, I don't know what I just saw and heard, but I think I love her LOL 😄😄😄😄 If you guys continue down this Jinjer journey, you won't be disappointed, each song is is unique and different, but all of them are fantastic. And you guys are right, it's just not Tati, even though she gets the most attention, they guys, Eugene (bass), Roman (guitar) and Vlad (drums) are equally phenomenal, and they compliment each other perfectly, in other words, Jinjer is just a phenomenal band. Continue to enjoy your Jinjer journey, and as always, stay Metal. 😊🤘🤘🤘🤘🎶🎶🎶🎶

Great reaction. Tatiana and Jinjer are from a different world from what the average American hears on the radio across this country. There are other bands with vocalists that can do this type of singing but Tatiana is next level. I would recommend another performance at Wachen by a band called Nightwish and their song "Ghost Love Score". I think you might find that this is the kind of performance that would attract you to a metal concert. Enjoy, and keep searching for new music!

ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5fXP_ZMzMyU.html I personally like the less processed voice of the live shows more too, which is mostly added delay on the mic to fill the sound out more. Some exceptions exist though when it is really for stylistic choice, like her holographic persona in I Speak Astronomy being very robotic sounding. But overall I just enjoy her raw voice a lot, she's a powerhouse.

At least as a female 💁🏻‍♀️ Metal dudes have a kind of weird chivalry haha Fun to learn the different kinds of pits too... Push pits, circle pits... Then there's the hardcore dancers, which most are chill but there's always a couple crowd killers 🙄 The one time I did a wall of death at a punk show I literally almost died from layers of people landing on top of me, so beware. Anybody can do these vocals with a little practice. Tatiana uses the false vocal cords. Everyone has them, so everyone can use them, but we don't normally use them for much except when we cough. Learning where they are in the throat and using them WITHOUT using the true vocal cords is what is key. Distinguishing between them is how she can scream for an hour and switch to singing without her clean vocals being affected.

@@AsiaandBJ the mosh pits these days are pretty tame in comparison to the 80s and 90s era....before cell phones existed and people stood around like potatoes filming shows with their phones like they do now. Wacken still gets good slamming pits going, but none of the pits hit anywhere near as hard as they did during the early thrash and death metal eras. Mosh pits are..or at least were, extremely dangerous, but also friendly in that if someone goes down, people help them up. Crowd surfing became a thing during the 80's, as that's how the injured were removed from the pit to get medical treatment. Slayer, Sepultura, Death, Cannibal Corpse,Exodus , and many others, up until Pantera, had some INSANE pits back in the day. Then again, as stated, crowd participation was a thing because cell phones weren't. Mosh pits seem so lame now 😥

Extreme vocals of this type is a learned technique that includes the use of the false chords, sometimes combined with what's known as a "fry scream". When produced correctly, as in the case of this talented woman, it does no damage to the vocal chords. Not an easy technique to learn and master, though.

I subbed for the last video. I'm a 54 year old black male metal head this band brought me back to metal after a hiatus exploring other music. It's awesome to see people of color finding out what I already know . I listen to all kinds of music but metal is my heart. Cloud factory is my favorite song and my ringtone and alarm on my phone 😆 . Peace from Stan the Alaskan. Dam I'm sorry it's Jinjer time and I will always be here for that. 😜oh you need to see a wall of death so teacher teacher has one at the end. There's a lot of female fronted metal bands that growl so many it's it's own rabbit hole but straight line stich has a female fronted black lead singer just saying black veil is the song check it out it's a good time. Peace from Alaska

Arch Enemy comes to mind... also the newly formed CRYPTA, a full female death metal band. Two of them, including the vocalist/bassist....are formerly from another full female band... nervosa, thrash metal band out of brazil.

Nice reaction! New subscriber here 🤘 as to the vocals: they're done by producing a kind of "white noise" by vibrating the structures of the larynx above the vocal chords. And then using breathing and typical vocal techniques to amplify the sound. If done right, you don't use your vocal chords. That's why you don't hurt your voice and why it doesn't have a pitch. The higher or lower pitches you may hear are produced by the shape of the mouth and tongue position while she sings

Totally agree... Other than Tatiana I can think of Angela Gassow (former vocalist and current band manager for Arch Enemy)....Alissa White-Gluz (current vocalist for Arch Enemy).... Courtney LaPlante....vocalist for Spiritbox.... CRYPTA... all female death metal band with former members of Brazilian thrash metal band Nervosa.... there's The Iron Maidens....a full female Iron Maiden tribute band... many more but these are the ones I can think of right now

This performance is just beyond belief. Lyrically, vocally, instrumentally, stage presence & moves.... it's shocking. This is one of the best performances of the 2010s. Oh and the music is more correctly described as metal, and symphonic metal likely, or what I kind of call chamber or baroque metal. It's more like a hard Verdi piece in composition.

great reaction guys, and especially Asia who said this was not her usual type of music. I think once you get past her growls, you realize she's an amazing singer even without them and next step is to realize that every member of this band is at the top of their game. But what can you say about Tatiana, I mean she's the Bruce Lee of metal and in my opinion sits at the very top of any other female singer living or dead of ANY genre! Again great reaction, all the best...

Great reaction! Try “I Speak Astronomy”; “ Judgement and Punishment-one take vocal “; and “Home Back” for some different aspects of Jinjer’s talents. “Words of Wisdom” and “Retrospection-official or live in Kiev” are great choices too.

Yeah, I accidentally got "too close" to the pit at a Type O Negative concert and got pulled in. People even had studded bracelets, chokers, etc. -- it was NOT pretty -- blood everywhere (not mine, thankfully!). Her voice is so incredibly beautiful. I'm new to this genre as well and I sometimes wonder why someone with such a great voice would want to do those screams/growls and strain that beautiful voice. But, I'm learning.... Peace!
@kevinfeeney5309
@kevinfeeney5309 3 года назад
When done correctly, there is no strain to the vocal chords..... hence why she's able to switch back and forth so effortlessly. Note the switch from growl to clean when the camera was up in her face....

The conversation about the mosh pits had me laughing. I remember as a teenager going to my first metal show with friends adn seeing on e for the first time and a dude busted his leg in one. I was like.. Whoa this is brutal!! But it was definitely the best energy I ever felt. I feel at home in the crowd at metal shows.

You guys are definitely in my top 5 music reactors. You both give off such a great vibe and energy, I'm so happy Tom Macdonald is how I found you guys. I regularly listen to metal and when you did the first Jinjer song it was amazing to see Asia's face lol and to see it how you both reacted to this video just makes my day. There are a few other female lead singers in metal that are just as good as Tatiana but their vocal delivery is different, I've been on a female metal band lead singer kick since 2018, you could check out red handed denial "clockwork", linzey rae (she has a youtube channel where she sings recipes in a metal voice and is in the band called the anchor) there is Arch Enemy (2017 to present) the lead singer is more growly but has a couple good softer/harsh sounding songs, There's also a band called butcher's babies (two female lead singers). I can give you more just let me know. Be good, stay safe and thank you for being such awesome human beings!
