Joe Cocker is an exceptional vocalist. Watching him perform makes you wish you knew what to do when you see an epileptic seizure (just watch his old live performances). But he is absolutely great. My favorite song is "Now That the Magic Has Gone" in which he pours his heart out. Such heartfelt pain singing about the end of a relationship. Please watch the official video...it's fire!
@@Martin.Wilson walked 2 miles with a friend to see a movie. When we got there they were showing mad dogs and Englishmen. First few minutes were "what the hell is this?" Walked out huge fans
@@lesliedavis2185 I've never seen it. Laughed thinkin' hey see it, might not live thru it a second time ! Haaa! Oh funny ! I was pregnant there and didn't know it but don't drink or do drugs thank God. Yup one of those weirdos, the laugh riot of my friends. Don't Pat, you're bad enough without. Got back and so sick thought I caught something there ! Finally went to the doctor. The flu is in his 50s.
Hey Patricia... I have only been to 1 concert in my entire life... Yep, it was Woodstock. I think I remember seeing you there... you were that Cute Hippie looking chick right ? Hang in there young Lady... Stay Cool !
Singing like it hurts! Man, I love that BJ. Stinkface is a real phenomenon with musicians and singers, hell yes! I love it. It does set the real ones apart. Love ya'll so much. Awesome channel!
Picture the early 80's. A hot summer night in the neighborhood . Everyone has their windows open and sitting on the stoops and windows with this song blasting out of someone's boombox at the end of the street. That's my first memory of Joe Cocker.
Joe, back in the day when He had the late, great Leon Russell and the Shelter people. Including the remarkable Miss Claudia Lennear, and she was da' bomb, baby! Both "Brown Sugar" and "Lady Grinning Soul" were written about her. Joe had an amazing voice and he surrounded himself with the best of the era.
Leon on the live early 70's PBS special. The Cameraman was loving Miss Claudia. Might be the first woman with a six pac. Fabulous piece of music history.
Artie Butler, the pianist in this, also did some music for The Peanuts. They probably had several pianists over the years of their shows, but Artie was one of them. 😉
Oh, if you haven't watch the documentary The Wrecking Crew, check it out. With how much you love music, I think you'd like it. Artie was in the Wrecking Crew along with the bassist in this song, Carol Kaye.
That is Mr. Leon Russell on the piano you were digging. He has some incredible live recordings from the ealy 70s. The Charlie Brown song is “Linus and Lucy,” originally by Vince Guaraldi. The version you are probably familiar with is the 25th anniversary version by David Benoit. I had him here in our little town twice in the several years I promoted live concerts (all contemporary jazz). Enjoyed this on Asia & BJ. Thank you.
One of my all-time favorite recordings. I know it’s a cover, but it’s always been Joe’s song to me. ❤️ Side note: thats Artie Butler on the piano.. he’s a renowned arranger, composer, and session musician with over 60 gold and platinum records. And the famed Carol Kaye of the Wrecking Crew on bass.
@@jowsmith1904 Milli Vanilli took credit for their vocals that were actually performed by someone else… Not sure how that correlates to the Wrecking Crew?
@@melodymcdonald2140 basically shitty vanilli was excoriated for fakery, during the 60's early 70's the wrecking crew was doing ALL the instrumentation on MANY hits without taking the credit...same thing different era.
I grew up with Joe Cocker's music. He was an English singer known for his gritty, bluesy voice & dynamic stage performances that featured expressive body movements. He recorded a few Beatles' songs "With A Little Help From My Friends", "She Came In Through The Bathroom Window" & "Something". Other hits were "Up Where We Belong" (a duet with Jennifer Warnes), "Delta Lady", "Cry Me A River", "The Letter" etc.
His "expressive movements" reminds me of when he had ZERO sense of humor about John Belushi impersonating him on Saturday Night Live, vowing to never appear on that show, drawing so much more attention to his unique expressions and movements. I was really young, but the whole thing stuck with me. My dad liked Joe Cocker's music and was also a big fan of Belushi and the original Saturday Night Live. Look up videos of Belushi impersonating Cocker on SNL. He did multiple sketches playing Cocker & honestly he had him pegged. It was hilarious. I believe Joe Cocker finally appeared not only on SNL but did a duet with Belushi. They were almost identical visually but were TOTALLY IDENTICAL with their singing! Belushi was so talented!
One of the most fun songs to listen to that has been released since I've been alive. I love this song. A hit in 1969. A few years later in 1974, I was with a friend at the Troubadour in Hollywood seeing Leo Sayer, who had just broken on to the scene. Standing room only. An arm's length away from me during the show was none other than George Harrison of the Beatles. After the show as we were leaving the club, the guy in the car park who parked our car (God knows where) was gone for the night and we found our keys on his peg board in his little booth. That's when a very drunk Joe Cocker stumbled out of the club and helped us locate our car. That's my memory of Joe Cocker. By the way, there's a great song of his from his second album that probably no one will request that I think you'd enjoy called "Hitchcock Railway." Never released as a single. Great jam.
Love Joe! Hope you check out an older but still fantastic Joe doing "You Can Leave Your Hat On" Official Video. Great song, great groove that you'd both love. 💙☮💙
Asia : Just as a point of reference, The musician playing on those Charlie Brown Specials was Vince Guaraldi. The most famous American Jazz musician no one has heard of...Artie Butler played piano on the recording you're using. He's been awarded over 60 Gold & Platinum albums.
Man, you guys are cracking me up! Some refer to it as the "Stank-Face"! You are right BJ, when an artist puts on the stank face they are ALL UP INTO IT! Joe Cocker most definitely put on the stank face on many, many performances. Some of the best blue-eyed soul out there. A few must-listen suggestions: She Came In Thru The Bathroom Window, The Jealous Kind, Catfish (About the pitching great Catfish Hunter), A Song For You (My all time favorite of his), Look What you’ve Done, and Worrier. JC passed away in Dec of 2014 at 70 years of age from lung cancer….. RIP and TY for the music you left us. Loved your reaction, TY.
I've always heard, and just recently heard another reactor said his grandma told him, "If you don't get ugly in the face, you are not "sanging". I would say that this applies to old school soul music. The reactor was reacting to St. Paul and The Broken Bones.
I halfway expected y'all to get up & dance on this one. BJ came pretty close to doing just that.🤣 Check out Joe doing "You Can Leave Your Hat On" for more great grooviness.💙☮💙
Mr. Joe Cocker and The Grease Band had one of the most memorable performances at the Woodstock concert, doing "With A Little Help From My Friends", a cover of a Beatles song. Some say their cover is superior to the original, a tough call. He went on to have a stellar career which recently ended. RIP Joe Cocker.
The original was by "Traffic," on their second LP "Traffic". The problem with Cocker is that he turned everything into "blues," even when that wasn't suited to the song, as he did with "The Beatles'" "With a Little Help from My Friends".
Asia - Thank You! I did hear the Charlie Brown once you mentioned it. I've heard this song a thousand times and didn't make that connection. BJ - Joe Cocker sang with that same stank face passion that Stevie Ray and Janice Joplin did so you are both right on it IMO - more Joe Cocker please! She came in through the bathroom window (Another Beatles cover) The Letter is also exceptional
Artie Butler on piano and the legendary Carole Kaye on bass provide the funky groove. Cocker's vocals were raw and unique. Although he shot to stardom with his take on " With a Little Help..." by the Beatles, his first recording was another Beatle song, " I'll Cry Instead. "
Asia, you are so right; as soon as you mentioned Charlie Brown, I thought yes! The piano has that same feel! Love this: so Funky! More great Joe Cocker songs are “The Letter”, and “She Came In Through The Bathroom Window” 🔥
Asia, there is a piece of music that Schroeder often plays on the Peanuts, or Charlie Brown cartoons, that sounds just like the part of this song you just commented on. I can't recall the name of the piece. Good ear, my dear.
If you all ever get the request...Please do some Leon Russell (piano player on this song). "Tightrope" and "A Song for You" are truly two masterpieces. PS "Masquerade" as well.
He did, four covers of Beatles songs, all terrific: She came into the bathroom window Joe Cocker Lennon-McCartney (McCartney) 1969 You Tube Something Joe Cocker Harrison 1970 Live Let it be Joe Cocker Lennon-McCartney (McCartney) 1970 Live With a little help from my friends
You guys have a great advantage, you get to read the lyrics as you listen to the song. When we wanted to understand the lyrics of a song we would have to listen to the song over and over again on our record players and try to figure the words out, unless you had an album with the lyrics written inside.
I was about 15-16....listened to music all the time. Still do. Rarely understood all the words. Just laying back on the sofa. Sorry, it went out again. Who's got the lighter?
August 26th is Shirley Manson's birthday... She is the "Goddess of Grunge"!!!❤️❤️❤️ She is the lead singer for the band, Garbage .. Please react to the Original video of "I'm Only Happy When It Rains", by them... Thank you.😀❤️
Lots of R&B in Cocker music. People I know have mistaken this song for Ray Charles. Leon on keys is definitely hitting us with jazz piano, hence the reason for the similarities with Charlie Brown, Jazz legend, Vince Guaraldi, who did the soundtrack for the first two or three animations.
Yes! Joe definitely does the ugly face when he sings. 😆 You can see he’s definitely feeling the song he’s singing in his soul. Asia needs see some more live videos of his maybe. Feeling alright is another fav of mine so thanks for reacting to it. 🤗🥰
Am I ok? Watching Asia and BJ makes me feel alright every night. Thanx for the joy you two bring. Loved your Patriot reaction BTWThats not an ugly face, that’s a Joe Cocker face. He poured his heart and soul out every time he went onstage
You're right that might be Schroeder from Charlie Brown rocking this song.😊👍 And I can visualize Snoopy dancing in back of the piano with his little nose up in the air😁
...for sure this man had a firm grounding and understanding of the human condition and the ability to communicate it to all who could hear it...soul to soul!...Ty peeps for this
I've got 2 comments...the first is I was feeling Asia when she said that piano part reminded her of Charlie Brown or actually Linus playing piano. Listen sometimes to the Charlie Brown instrumental. BJ . your right about Joe Cocker with the ugly face or stink face. I've seen him in concert and he's real animated. I thought at first he was epileptic. My brother schooled me. BJ there are A LOT of singers that have the " ugly face" when singing cause their feeling it or just it's coming from deep in their soul. I'm a 63 year old black male from Ardmore the Philly suburbs. Keep up the good music and reactions....peace
Next up, a song to get BJ in trouble. Joe Cocker swagger onto a dead bar late at night to revive the blues and the fading clientele with some rocking blues. His sideman Clarence Clemons brings his formidable sax along to energize the soul. Go listen to this cover done right !Enjoy.
if you want to hear Cocker in a completely different context listen to the two songs he did with the jazz band The Crusaders on their album "Standing Tall". He stands out even farther with their subtle jazzy backing.
Great song. The song was written by Dave Mason from the band Traffic . The title should have a question mark on the end. Feelin’ Alright? Keep on keepin’ it real.
Think about this for a moment. Joe Cocker recorded 2 songs from the greatest ever pop music producing tsunami, The Beatles, and Joe now owns both musically speaking. Other versions do not rank with Joe's productions. That is one incredible accomplishment.
