This was his 'Goodbye' song. The man had much tragedy in his life. When he became famous, he sang for and about the down-trodden among us. He'd been in trouble with the law, he played gigs at prisons, he was an addict...he'd been through a lot. Much respect to 'The Man in Black'!

The respect shown by not pausing the song once after starting it.

This is an amazing song written by Trent Reznor from Nine Inch Nails. Johnny Cash covered it it fit his life so perfectly when he did this even Trent Reznor says it’s his song now. This was the very last song he recorded before he passed away.

The gold record with the smashed glass was from Columbia Records, who unceremoniously did not renew his contract, after making millions off of him for 25 years. But, if he'd still been with Columbia, he'd never had made this masterpiece of a swan song.

One of my top covers of all time. Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails) heard it and was like it’s his song now. This was released in 2002, Johnny’s wife June passed in May 2003 and Johnny followed her in September 2003. I cry every single time he closes that piano 💔 My other top covers: •The Weeknd - Dirty Diana (MJ cover) •Bad Wolves - Zombie (Cranberries cover) •Disturbed - Sound of Silence (Simon and Garfunkel cover) •Post Modern Jukebox - Creep (Radiohead cover) I know I’m missing one but all of those are absolutely incredible too 🖤

I'm so glad you included Creep in your list. PMJ has a ton of covers. I haven't heard the others, but I was really surprised at how much I like Disturbed's cover. If you like Heart, you'll probably be amazed by Gretchen Wilson and Alice In Chains, with Nancy Wilson doing, "Barracuda", at a Heart tribute.

This is a cover but fitted Johnny Cash story that you can see he feels every word. Not long before he died. His wife had died not long before.

Johnny was an addict. "Everyone I know goes away in the end" certainly includes the death of loved ones but also the effect that being an addict has an people around you. They want to get away from you because of your treacherous behavior. (Thank God Johnny was in recovery before he died.) The most moving moment to me -- and there are too many to count -- is when he's staring into the camera as he pours out the wine. All pretense is gone. The end is coming, his eyes say, and not just for me, for you too. As the images speed up toward the end, it's like his whole life flashing before his eyes. But you feel like it's also yours. Because it is. All the performing and smiling and winking and thumbs ups are metaphors for the phoney entertainment world -- and our worlds too -- as Jesus is nailed to the cross. Time to get thrown down the hill and get all the unimportant stuff broken off of us. Time to decide -- are we just random collections of molecules so eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow we die? Or is there something beyond this world where we will be held accountable? And because we can't repair our broken thoughts and deeds, is there ANY hope of mercy there...

This song was a serious statement. You really should check out some of his earlier works to see more of what and who that artist was, and ~ is. This song was a sad goodbye, but his life was SO MUCH! This song does not define him. It was how he felt at the end, that’s all. Tragically. 😢

I love Johnny Cash,he was one of because Storey Teller singer there was to me, he went to Folsom Prison where he once was to sing a song he wrote it's called...Folsom Prison Blue's... they told him he couldn't sing the part where he shot a man in Reno just to watch him die because they we're afraid it would cause a Riot but if anyone knows Johnny Cash he sang it just like he wrote it and the Prisoners loved it you need to check it out, this song was one of the last song he made before he passed away R.I.P., THANK YOU SIR FOR YOUR REACTION AND I HOPE YOU HAVE A BLESSED DAY 🙏 Sending love from Lafayette Georgia 🍑

This song is very sad. He was as big as Elvis during the same time period. His songs were similar to Elvis as well though unique in his own way. Listen to "Ring of fire" from Johnny. There is a beautiful movie about his life "walk the line" that you can check out too. Drugs got the better of him and almost destroyed him but his wife saved him.. he became a Christian and started playing music in jails as part of an outreach program. You can see him performing for inmates in some videos too.

Bro, ... we talk about it again as soon as you hit the age of 70, ok? You might have some questions and a different point of view, ... maybe! ;) Cheers from Germany! Thanks for reacting to JC and do some more! If you want to listen to a fun song of JC, give "A Boy Named Sue" a try! *take_care

He used to be more upbeat. Listen to Rock Island Line… it’s the 50’s version of rap. Pretty quick flow to.

trent reznor of nine inch nails wrote this he wsas ment to write this but Johnny was ment to sing this. the picture on the wall is Johnny's mom the woman standing in the background was June carter cash who died several months after johnny released this song and video and he followed her soon after. trent didnt like the cover at first but he soon fell in love with it and said that johnny now OWNS this song. one of the few examples of a covewr being better than the original.

Johnny Cash in his prime? Try his classic "Folsom Prison Blues". You can't get more iconic Johnny Cash in his prime than that. The reason he's such an American icon is WAAAAY too big of a story to tell here in a comment. He started out as just another nobody in the 50s, along with Elvis and Jerry Lee Lewis in that same little podunk Sun Records recording studio in Memphis that was owned by the now equally legendary record producer, Sam Philips. From there, the rabbit hole goes so deep you could wander through it for months, years, and probably still not catch all of it.

He went to prisons in the US to give prisoners hope that they are not alone and society should not forget them. He was married to June Carter for decades and he died shortly after she did. She helped him with his destructive addiction to Benzedrine like Elvis Presley and Jerry Lee Lewis. He was a poor boy and always wrote songs about oppressed society in America. His voice is compared to a freight train.
