I was back in my skates and grooving to this song going around the rink..Love it!! "Shake your bootie" and "Please don't go" are a couple more good ones. Please don't go is a slow one.

KC & the Sunshine Band came up mid 1970s when Disco was getting started. They, along with bands like Ohio Players (Fire, Fopp, Love Rollercoaster) and Earth Wind & Fire (That's the Way of the World, Reasons) along with AWB (Average White Band, Pick Up the Pieces, Cut the Cake, School Boy Crush) were a mini-bridge between R&B/Funk and the emergence of Disco. Even the famous Bee Gees were actually a Soul/Disco band.

I was a young girl when this band was huge but it's another one of those my awesome dad listened to. He played an freaking awesome trumpet and he turned me on to great bands who had great horn sections. People thing this is just some fly disco band. CRAZY. This band kills!!! (also, White Zombie does a crazy awesome "cover" of this song. You should check it out!)

Asia & BJ, the word, "boogie", means dancing, but it has another meaning: sex. In this song it means both. It means dancing, on the surface, and as far as the radio censors were concerned. But everyone hip knew that it really meant having sex. I've copied most of the lyrics below. I love how KC used every instrument, the piano, the base, the guitars, the vocals, the tambourine, and especially the horn section to build and build to the multiple- chorus crescendos. Casey songs may have been simple, but he was a master of the Dance Floor Jam and enjoyed a long run in the 70s and early 80s

Yep. Live is so much better! That horn section makes the whole show. There was one performance though, the crowd was sitting in their chairs, the band was doin their thing, Ain't NO WAY, you can see this much joy, happiness, music and celebration and sit still unless you are dead inside. Even if you watch the Soul Train Dance Line with the song playing, they be getting down! Love your channel, you have a new subscriber!
