In my top 5 of Led Zeppelin songs 🥰 He thought he was being stood up but turns out he was waiting on the wrong block. So he was the fool in the rain 🤣

I don't know a lot of their songs, but this is in my top three. The thing that stands out to me the most in this song is John Bonham's drumming.

Drummer John Bonham showed, his mind boggling SKILLS on the drums in every song, but this song, “Fool in the Rain,” showed how obviously tremendous his talents & skills were!?! Many drummers tried to emulate his drumming skills, and many couldn’t reproduce his abilities? His wait, adding & pausing the timing to get the right sound beat to the music… Especially in this particular song his drumming showed his skills... His drumming skills created a unique beat with this song and his timing & improvisation on every beat is very precise. To add or subtract beats to add flavor to the music was ‘out of this world, and ‘very super talented!!! Good song to react too…

Great song. My impression is that wonderful Brazilian sounding middle section starts the moment the woman arrives and he realizes he wasn't standing in the rain for nothing afterall. I love that part as well as Jimmy Page's long soothing guitar solo that immediately follows.

glad you dug one of my fave zeppelin songs from their final album. some trivia: it was released with various versions of the album cover, and the inner sleeve was a black and white picture that turned color if you wiped a damp paper towel over it. all of my love is another shot off this album. the whole album was actually sold wrapped in a brown paper bag-type cover too.

Finally someone did a reaction to my favorite Led Zeppelin song. Thanks! I love the drumming on this. The way I heard it, the man in the song thought he had been stood up. He later realized that he was on the wrong corner. Hence the song title fool in the rain. Shout out to mother popcorn. By the way, did she get that name from the James Brown song of the same title? Great review.

He's a fool in the rain because he's talking about a love and how his love is left him standing out in the rain when an actuality he's a fool waiting on the wrong block he wasn't where he was supposed to meet her and he was blaming her for not showing up when he was in the wrong spot

As some others have mentioned, the song is about a guy who thinks he got stood up when it turns out he went to the wrong block. The samba beat was inspired by bassist John Paul Jones and singer Robert Plant hearing the music being played in host city Argentina while watching the FIFA soccer games on tv. In addition to that beat, guitarist Jimmy page used an electric guitar, a 12-string guitar, and a buzz/octave pedal to give his guitar a fuzzy sounding, lower octave sound.
