@disconnexionsdotcom 3 года назад
Wasn't the first rap slow song. There was Fairytale Lover in 85 and even Hey Love in 86. It was however the best and afterwards every rapper had at least one on their album for a hot minute.
@sw828
@sw828 3 года назад
@@disconnexionsdotcom If you're talking about the UTFO song, Fairytale Lover wasn't a rap song. They sang that one all the way through. It was r&b. Yes UTFO was a rap group, but that song was definitely sung & not rapped. It's like the Fugees, Killing Me Softly. Lauryn sang that one. Definitely not a rap song. I don't know Hey Love. Who is that by? You brought back memories with Fairytale Lover. Lol. It played at my 7th grade dance! Good times!😊
@disconnexionsdotcom
@disconnexionsdotcom 3 года назад
@@sw828 Ha.. I guess Fairytale Lover doesn't meet that exact criteria.. and even before that, there were also love songs by the Sugarhill Gang and Grandmaster Flash.. All sung.. Some might consider Whodini's 'One Love' as a hit song that proved a rap ballad could work, and that was '86. "Hey Love" was done by King Sun. I mistakenly said 1986, but it was 1987 and it was before "I Need Love". They used to play it on Mr Magic's radio in NYC all the time. It's crazy because MC Shan came out with "Left Me Lonely' within weeks of "I Need Love" as well. That was kinda the year that hip-hop started growing up.

Remember this from my senior year in high school. LL Cool J started rapping at age 16 in 1984. He's from Long Island, NY and was raised in Hollis Queens, NY. He said in his autobiography that he told his grandmother that he felt that he couldn't survive as a rapper because gangsta rap was popular and he was being dissed by several up-and-coming rappers. He has a list of bangers and starred in many movies and tv shows like NCIS: Los Angeles. He won a Grammy for this song. He is a GOAT for sure! This was LL’s come back album of sorts, before Mama Said Knock You Out he did the Walking with a Panther album and although it did go platinum, a lot of the hard tracks people were expecting from LL were missing on that album. People actually began to accuse LL of going commercial because a lot of the songs on there were considered soft and only aimed at the ladies, a lot of the hard hip hop heads were beginning to give up on LL, well the sentiment got back to LL which is why this album was so groundbreaking. The first line from the first single _don’t call it a comeback, I’ve been here for years!_ really sent a message to everybody at the time that the KING is still here hitting you with the hard tracks and he’s going nowhere! No wonder this album sold double the amount of his previous album it was a comeback!
