I saw Lou Christie sing this the year it was a hit, 1966. I was 12 & went to see "Dick Clark's Caravan of Stars" (anybody remember that?). It was a whole lineup of people with hits touring the country, Lou, Paul Revere & The Raiders (took some great pics of them), Peter & Gordon etc. It was the height of Beatlemania & George Harrison's sister was with them. She didn't sing, she simply came out & answered questions about her brother & his bandmates while us teenyboppers sighed & squealed almost as if John, Paul, George & Ringo were there. That night my dad & some friends went out for a late supper at a local restaurant & several artists from the show came in. My dad always carried a small notebook with him & he went over & asked for autographs for me. So now I still have that little notebook with signatures & best wishes from Lou & others AND Louise Harrison. And I've joked a few times that I actually own a bit of Beatle DNA..sort of. Lou sounded great live & I love how his voice would slide into his famous falsetto on the chorus of this song. It really was a BIG hit. 💙☮💙☮💙☮💙☮💙☮💙

You're very cute Asia and you're very cool BJ 😎. I'm glad you guys played the ORIGINAL version because there's some live versions that don't do it justice. Anyway, please listen to Come To Me Softly by Jimmy James and The Vagabonds also from the 60s. I'm willing to bet you guys are gonna love it but make sure it's the version that shows a 45rpm record on the cover. THAT is the original version. I know for sure it IS on RU-vid because I listen to it all the time. It's a beautiful, romantic song. Hope you like it.

Asia & BJ, His voice is very reminiscent of Frankie Valli. "Two Faces Have I" was another top 10 hit. Great voice, this is the song he is remembered for. edit- for a powerful even better voice, check out Jay & The Americans song "Cara Mia"!!

Lou Christie (nee, Luigi Alfredo Giovanni Sacco) is a great artist. Classically trained while in high school, he is now about 80 years old and is still working hard. In 2016, for example, he released "When You Were Young". Thank you for showcasing this rare talent. Your channel is terrific.

Lou Christie was probably the guy with the second most famous falsetto voice, behind the great Frankie Valli .. This song is a good example of it, with his falsetto in the chorus .. But the song you really need to check out next from him is "TWO FACES HAVE I" .. It's an absolute classic, and I'm guessing you may have heard it before, as it still gets a run on radio stations .. Cheers, Wayne

The song was released as a single on Christmas day 1965, and on February 19, 1966, it hit the top of the pop charts. Speaking about the song in the September 16, 2005 issue of Goldmine magazine, Lou Christie said: "And they didn't even like it! (Label head) Lenny Shear threw it in the wastebasket and said it was a piece of crap! So we put up our own money to get it played around the country, and it started taking off once it got played. Three months later, Lenny was taking a picture with me for Billboard magazine, handing me a gold record. I loved that." The song was co-written by Christie and Twyla Herbert, who was at least 20 years older than Christie and came from a classical music background. In the same Goldmine interview, Christie said: "I never worked with anyone else who was that talented, that original, that exciting. She was just bizarre, and I was twice as bizarre as her." Christie is sending mixed messages in this song: First, he's admitting he can't settle down to just one girl, but in the second verse he wants his girl to be trustworthy, true and pure. He bluntly admits he's willing to settle down to her one day, but for now if somebody's looking and reading his mind he's going for it. Can the character in this song ever be true to one girl? (Songfacts.com)
