…This! Tracy Chapman and this song was a huge part of my childhood. Luke Combs didn’t do it wrong but gotta respect the original. It’s the OG and any kid growing up in the 80’s and 90’s this was an anthem. Tracy Chapman is a hero.
That song is a cover of a Tracy Chaman song. She is a black woman and very reclusive. I have no idea how he managed to get her permission to cover the song. It’s from her 1988 self titled debut. It was a big deal for a number of years. I would consider her a very socially conscious singer/songwriter and/or folk artist who takes influence from the blues. If you are interested in more by her, check out the song Talkin’ Bout A Revolution.
omg! Tracy Chapman song!! this country version sounds ok, but I love original version way better! TC was an awesome folk singer, her depth in lyrics is timeless. wow that dates me! She recently did this song on the Grammys 2024 and sounds the SAME!
Off the bat. You need to go backwords not forward. The fact you didn't automatically know this was a cover is just sad. And i mean that in the best way. You have an awsome journey infont of you if you search for it.
Time to do more country! Please please do Chris Stapleton Tennessee whiskey Live from Austin city limits. You’ll be amazed, guaranteed. The way he looks at his wife as he’s singing with her is special
I like this song, I'm happy that he redid it and introduced it to a new generation of fans, but it sounds exactly like the original. I want to hear an alternate version, I want to hear his version and take on it.
