Same with my family, I've played guitar for 16 years, I know how to play all their albums, you have to have idols, or what else do you look up too, BTW, cool ass grandma listening to metal, that's badass
Pls convey my regards and respect to your momma. I am 45, from a far-off country, and a Metallica fan for > 3 decades. Used cassettes, to MP3 to CD to FLAC, tagged along with them :)
'Fade to black' was apparently written after vocalist/guitarist James Hetfield had his favorite amp stolen on tour... he and drummer Lars Ulrich talked about death at the time. So Metallica's 2nd album 'Ride the lightning' had themes of 'death' in 1984. Tragically, death hit Metallica in 1986 when bassist Cliff Burton was killed in a tour bus accident in Europe. No one really knew Metallica after the first album "Kill 'em all" in 1983... but 'Ride the lightning' started to sell in 1985, so that got Metallica signed from a minor label to a major one - Elektra records... and bigger management w/ Q-Prime. Metallica did their first major tour in '85 w/ W.A.S.P. and Armored Saint... and clearly did better than those 2 bands. Metallica never had much support in the early days... they relied on touring. So they never shot any music videos until 1989 for the song 'One'.
I heard that James' mother bought him the amp, it was one of the last things he he of hers and he was really torn apart when it got stolen. Also almost all of the other bands equipment was stolen, the future of the band was uncertain, but anthrax were on tour with them and lent them equipment. I'm not tryna be "that guy" in the comments sorry if that's how i came across
Ride the Lightening. One of their best albums. I saw this tour back in '85 at Day on the Green in Oakland during the summer. That was the largest crowd they had played in front of at the time. They played in Sacramento later that year at the Memorial Auditorium. Armored Saint opened the show. Y&T headlined. They were also from the Bay Area. We were there for Metallica! Great times.
BTW... Love that you are exposing your sweet daughter to a variety of all music early. So many of us get locked in to particular genre early and we miss so many unbelievable songs and artists.
Lov that you folks are opening up to new music...im doing the same with rap....old school metal head 🤘🤘🤘💯💯 lov ta see new folks turning on to new shit....
If you really want to geek out watch Santana live at Woodstock 1969 perform Soul Sacrifice . The band was on acid when they got on stage. One of the greatest performances you’ll ever see. Luv your reactions.
Their music spans so many decades that you will find that they have different sounds over their albums but most die hard old School Metallica fans will tell you we don’t really like the load and reload albums but it is still Metallica. Their latest album hardwired that came out in 2017 takes them back to their roots and is so much like the old stuff. I freaking love that album and can’t wait for another one. Yes they are still recording and touring and kicking ass in their late 50s! They thrive on the love of their fans live!
This is my all time favorite METALLICA song. I suffer from generalized anxiety and major depressive disorder and suicidal ideation and I often, if not daily, fall down the rabbit holes in thought about life and past mistakes and this song, even though is dark in nature, hypes me up and often brings me out of those thoughts. Speaking of the chair on the album cover. The album name , obviously, is Ride The Lightning and that’s what it’s called when being put to death in the electric chair, “riding the lightning”. ✌️
What I see in this video is a great father and a great mother exploring the old days of music, while taking care of their child, hopefully you can understand the importance of this culture and time of music and pass it down the bloodline! God bless!!
One of the most beautiful music songs ever. I get lost listening to this song. So depressing yet uplifting. It’s help many people emotionally with depression. They got a lot of slack for this song. But it is beautiful. I could listen to that intro over and over …
Such a powerful song to get thru hard times. This song has helped me and probably saved my life a few times. So glad to see you on this musical journey.
You hit the nail on the head on the only thing wrong with this masterpiece at the end..."He should have kept going." They actually do wrap the song up nicely after that high guitar note when they play it live though.
Awesome as always guys , reaction suggestion : Metallica - Sad But True. I know you both will really enjoy it. ( Little fact about Fade To Black , many people have credited this song with saving their lives. )
Metallica has been my favorite since I've seen them when I was only 9yo, back in 86 first time seeing them, they opened for Ozzy at convention center n Albuquerque NM...
Great song - great reaction. Even the missus there was feeling the groove. I remember after Puppets reaction she said she was not much interested in doing more metal. So it's nice to see it growing on ya both. I posted in a previous metallica vid of yours that the guitar solo and and the instruments are like a movie score - there to amplify the emotions of the song and the message in the lyrics. This is probably one of the most profound examples of that. It really draws the listener in and helps make them feel a sort of way. At this point, the only thing you're missing is seeing how this amazing legendary band played live - spoiler alert - no one ever did it better They were beasts in concert. I recommend CREEPING DEATH Live in Moscow 1991, and BATTERY Live in Seattle 1989.
sanitarium my fav song, first time i heard it was actually the apocalyptica version, then i heard the real thing and was blown away. have to thank apocalyptica for bringing me to metal.
James wrote this song after his gear was stolen including his amp that his momma bought him before she died. This song is about a man contemplating about suicide and in the end he kills himself. Pretty sad.
Loving your Metallica reactions but you need to go check them out live. The energy level increases ten fold compared to the studio recordings. Look up - Master Of Puppets (Seattle 1989) The Four Horseman (Seattle 1989) Battery (Seattle 1989) Entersandman (Moscow 1991) Harvester Of Sorrow (Moscow 1991) Creeping Death (Moscow 1991) Whiplash (Woodstock 1994) Fight Fire With Fire (Woodstock 1999)
If I remember right, it's Kirk Hammet on electric guitar and James Hetfield working acoustic. Of course, Lars Ulrich on drums. And I think this was cut back before Jason Newsted joined the band playing bass. Cliff Burton was their bass player till he died in a bus crash in Sweden back in 1986.
Welcome to the world of Rock/Metal. Rock and Metal music has been described as "Devil" music for many years. As a Christian and as a teen when Metallica came out...I truly enjoyed their music while being "put down" by many for listening to them. Rock and Metal music is not Demonic.....it is a level of playing musical instruments much faster and with a tempo that was new back then. Furthermore, most rock/metal music played music that dealt with real world and deep issues most people deal with that are afraid to bring forward. I started playing electric guitar when I was 15 years old and played all the classic rock and metal songs...to this day...I am 53 years old now, retired after over 23 years of active duty Honorable service in The United States Army. I still pick up the electric guitar and play Metallica songs. Welcome to the family, brother and sister! :) Cachai
I've been a passive watcher and have liked how your reactions have progressed and I really enjoy your metallic reactions. I recommend Blackend of their And Justice For All ablum. It's fire from beginning to end. But it's ear candy as well. :)
1st Metallica song I ever heard. Rewound to kill em all and to master of puppets. And justice 4all wasn't out yet. I heard it on a classic rock radio station at like 2am lol. Like the overnight dj was like Phuuuck it! We playing Metallica instead of Jethro Tull 😆 toNIGHT!
Four Horsemen Creeping Death Whisky in the Jar All Nightmare Long Fuel Those would be my biggest suggestions. You can the live version or studio version of any of these. Metallica has always been known as a band that is better live than in studio.
Master of puppets.. For Whom The Bell Tolls is a good one. Pantera’s Cemetery Gates is a good song....Dime Bag was legendary on the guitar and the drums were always on point.
Real Metallica when they were still an underground real metal band in the 80s, no radio play, no MTV just word of mouth, the opposite of pop hair metal.
I knew a guy who was a drummer in a band, and he looked like Kirk Hammet the guitarist that killed the solo here on "Fade to Black". "Creeping Death" live in Moscow!
You guys check out the live version of " fade to Black" for whom the bell tolls" live at bing and purge Seattle 89. you won't be disapointed much better than the studio version. you want believe how bad a** this performance is. be cool stay safe. D Day Dave.
Love watching you guys vibe to some Metallica. So cool. My favorite band ever. I have listened to this band since I was probably 12 or 13. 47 now. Check out No Leaf Clover. You may or may not know that they performed this song with The San Francisco Orchestra. Beautiful family :-)
The first Metallica album is still one of their best, no band had really done metal like that before, maybe check out Metal Militia, song is ridiculous
good tune, this was the first true solo i learned when teenager. cementery gates from pantera is a good door to open if you want to go one step further in solos. i think the best one in the channel now is tornado of souls. painkiller from judas priest, a band which i dont like at all and dont listen, is an iconic guitar solo
you are such a nice couple. I love when I see people listening to Metallica for the first time. I cant do that anymore :) You should try The Unforgiven 1 and 2 and of course Nothing Else Matters. The standard ones :)
