kmsharley75 I'm not gonna fight you, I will just say I was wrong, because Khtulu is not only their best instrumental, it's probably the greatest metal instrumental ever. Too Live... is great, but Khtulu is something not of this planet.
The most amazing thing about it is that little comment, about the little tricks picked up over the years... depending on where you start counting, three or five. What? Three or five years. Metallica formed in '81 but the assembly of artists you're listening to in Orion didn't happen until '83. MoP came out in '86. These four guys managed to get to Orion level of performance in *three years*.... 23/24 years old when that album dropped.
@@8tonystark8 I was juggling college, 1 full time and 1/2 part time jobs, "party time", and commutes... p.s. hey kids, living a life that lets you have 3-4 hours of sleep a night for a couple years will screw you up, don't do it....
Lesley rotary speakers were often used on Hammond organs in the seventies. A pioneer was Jon Lord of Deep Purple. Lord used not only Lesley speakers but fed the output of his Hammond through a Marshall guitar amp to produce more distortion and volume to counter Ritchie Blackmore's guitar.
Make Sure you Guys check out DJ FM in the description as he has kindly Sponsored this video!🔥 All suggestions below, what’s next?🙌🏻 *Also, if anyone can hook me up with Metallica tickets for their Slane Concert On June 8th in Ireland I would be forever grateful + it would make for sick VLOG footage for you guys!* 🙏🏻👀
I’ve always loved this song! It’s unfathomable that it’s 33 yrs old! And it’s still untouchable because Cliff Burton’s touch and guidance is all over this composition! 💪🏻🤘🏻
What really amazes me is that in greek mythology, once Orion died he was put in the sky by a god to immortalize him in a way, and this song immortalizes Cliff and his amazing bass skills.
The metal cello band Apocalyptica made a great cover of this song. And others from Metallica (they have support of Metallica and had an influence on Metallica decision for the S&M show with a symphonic orchestra). They have also big great originals songs like Betrayal (check out the live in 2005 at metal mania) or Till death do us part (check out the album version). They did cover from Sepultura too with « Inquisition Symphony » the live in rock in rio is MINDBLOWING
Can you react to Meshuggah- "Bleed" Lyric video or audio version. Anything other than the music video. Or Call of Ktulu by Metallica, its another instrumental
If you listen to “Bleed”, Drew, my favorite version on RU-vid is the one titled “Meshuggah - Bleed - Tomas Haake - Wincent Drumsticks”, which is basically the drumcam version.
@@handcoding that ones cool and all but not for a first listen because its live so you cant really here his singing or the guitar/bass only drums you can hear. So for a first listen it has to be the original
Puppet Masta A little extra Tomas Haake in the mix is just icing on the cake as far as I’m concerned. (And all jest aside, you can still hear plenty of Jens and Fredrik in the mix too.)
This song makes me want to fly a spaceship. Not like the Space Shuttle or a Soyuz rocket, but a big-ass Battlecruiser from Star Wars or something. IRL there was a Battleship called HMS Orion, and there's a constellation in the night sky called that too. So I guess that's where it comes from.
great reaction dude. master of puppets was my entry into the world of metal when i was 15. changed my life forever. cant imagine mot having it my life now. glad i could experience this with you. definitely check out call of ktulu from ride the lightning and raise your horns by amon amarth. great song about comradery, at least thats what i took from the song. take care bro \m/
I maintain that the second half of this song is pure music porn. It's a perfect representation of Metallica as a whole and good musical writing/performance. Orion is arguably one of the best instrumentals to ever be written, but the second half is especially amazing.
What a lot of people doesn’t understand, Cliff was very much into classic music, such as Beethoven, Mozart, and he put a ton of classic in his riff lines. Cliff was and I believe still to be a Bass God!!!
It's so refreshing to see someone appreciate the musicianship that goes into metal. Please react to Joe Satriani - Made of Tears Live next; a mind blowing performance from the greatest living guitarist!
Satriani is a great guitarist. But Buckethead is a far more skilled and versatile guitarist. I'll give you a suggestion to listening to...lets say 50 of his albums. Or maybe 300.
@@MrBruzelius Completely agree that Buckethead is more technically skilled and versatile! If you react to Buckethead Soothsayer's probably the best shout Drew. Coats of Claude is also one of my favourites.
@@adamjackson9983. Pikes: Telescape, Northern Lights, Claymation Courtyard, is 3 of my favourites. Coats of Claude is awesome musicianship. Rock on Sir!
A rotary speaker literally fucking rotates (spins) while projecting the sound. And thats what you hear in the intro: bass guitar through a rotating speaker.
You should listen to Bleeding Me. It's one of the most underrated tracks from Metallica just because it's not off one of the thrash albums. It's amazing and you should definitely give it a listen
This song is much more interesting when you understand bass lines... next Metallica - Kall od ktulu live in Warsaw 2014. Some people say it's better than Orion.
@@JorgitoFerreira the Latin word is Orionis which is pronounced uh-rahy-uh-nis...if you take off the "is" then uh-rahy-uhn or ō-rī′ən, which is still pronounced like they sayd (o-ry-on/oh-ryan), not "or-e-on".
dude that comment was funny as hell Drew Fortune .. about the pausing the song . people give you shit about pausing it on a critical point of the song LOL ... LMFAO . like they haven't listened to the song 156 times already .. i spit out my drunk when you said that .. that was gold right there holy shit i cant fucking see through the tears man lol . as usual awesome video keep them going brother
I love 'that bit' too. Crackin tune, good reaction. Ps. Recommend listening too Black Peaks, glass built castles. So, OK, it's not an instrumental, just a uk group I think is well underrated
I don't think you should look up the song before you listen to it because it kinda ruins the surprise of the song and sets expectations. Like you already expected the bass interlude, whereas if you didn't know it would have been more of a surprise. Liked the reaction though regardless
If you want modern instrumental music, I highly recommend Paul Wardingham, he'll give you a taste of the future (check out a song such as Convergence, so you can even see him playing it) Or in the modern style again but more the melodic side : Angel Vivaldi - A Martian Winter
