This song has one of their best solos in my opinion it simply strikes me every time i listen to it. Another unique thing about Metallica and i think by now you noticed is their switch ups it happens so seem less and it’s not one or a couple they have multiple switches in one song because it is as if they have an itch to just put out all their genius in one song. Now since you have been steadily going through the album Master of Puppets I recommend you listen to Disposable Heros next it will flip your brains out. And just look at the album cover artwork while you’re listening to it and let us know if it makes sense. Because Metallica thinks about everything even that.

Love it - that means Disposable Hero's and Damage Inc are on their way. Listening to whole albums won't be good for your channel though - hold the videos out to keep people engaged. Then listen to an entire album when you have completed all the songs in order. A lot of Metallica fans especially like lyric video reactions to as they have a story to tell - James voice has often been called the 5th instrament. He sings like percussion in addition to delivering the lyrics.

I just loved it because it was loud, fast and heavy and in your F'n face!

Honestly you can pick any song off their first 5 albums and it will be a banger, very very few exceptions. After the first 5, things need to be curated a bit more, but if you truly love the music Metallica brings, you'll like all their albums (except St. Anger and Lulu). Load, Reload, Garage and St. Anger are from the "bad" years. Death Magnetic (& Beyond Magnetic), Hardwired... and 72 Seasons are all very good, just not classics yet.

You definitively have to check out some performances off their S&M concert. They collaborated with the San Francisco Symphony and Orchestra to perform live versions of their songs with a full orchestra accompanying them. It's fucking tremendous, i think you'd really enjoy it No Leaf Clover is my personal favorite from the concert. It was written specifically for the orchestra accompaniment so it just all sounds incredible together.

Hearing this for the first time is one of the memories that has stuck with me through the years. Summer night, my best friend came over, we had a tent set up in the back yard far enough away my parents couldn't hear what we were up to but could keep an eye on us. My friend who was the source of so much music I love from metallica to epmd to public enemy to krs one to the misfits, the dead kennedys, the ramones, fu shnickens and so many more goes "dude you gotta hear this" and throws this cassette into the boom box he brought with him. I don't remember much of the rest of the album that night, but when this came on it drilled straight into my brain and i was hooked. Wish I'd known how much of my life the connection to it was foreshadowing but I've made it out the other side mostly intact and still hold on to that memory of this song on that summer night.

The wrestler Chris Jericho has a cool podcast. He got to chat with Ron McGovney, Metallica's first bassist. He explained to Chris how Metallica writes their songs. They go into a garage and jam. While jamming they develop a bunch of riffs. They record each riff and then give each riff a name. When time comes to write a song, they will pick a riff at random and then tinker around with adding more riffs. They basically piece these riffs together until they have a full song. They record it in studio, and then James writes lyrics and Kirk writes a solo.

I saw them on the tour (small tour 1984) for the 'Ride the Lightening' album, then I saw them open for Ozzy for 'Master of Puppets (1986). Damage, Inc is what they were like prior albums, Kill 'em All, and Ride the lightning. IMO, it was all downhill after Master. But, no doubt their contributions. I'm privileged to have seen them with Cliff Burton before he tragically died.

The thing about 80s Metallica is that they were really good at creating melodies with both the guitars and the voice. They do it today, just a bit differently. But this song is a great example of Kirk's ability to tell a story and make you well-up with his solos.

Just listen to The Bass channels mix of it. Only bass overdub and mix that's better than the original and remaster. I'll never listen an official version again.

FYI, this album was the gamechanger of Metal. It grew out of the Thrash movement from San Francisco. Metallica took the lead. Slayer, Exodus, Megadeth and the New Yorkers, Anthrax were the big ones, but when this album came out, many of the old school Metal Heads who were listening to British Metal, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, etc, and the German bands, quickly converted to Thrash. Even the LA metal fans of Dio, Quiet Riot, etc, could not ignore Master of Puppets. Then Megadeth came out with their second album Peace Sells. . . , then Slayer's Reign in Blood came out, then Anthrax's Among the Living came out. Thrash was established. But it was Master of Puppets that opened up the genre to so many.
