I'm old enough that both of those songs had decent airplay when I was growing up, and I'm embarrassed that I didn't make the Regulate connection until just now. 🤦🏼♀️
It is so cool to see you comment! I met you at Amplify last year and you told us to pay attention to what young people are doing. These two are brilliant!
There's also, Bobby Caldwell, Teena Marie, The Doobie Brothers (which Michael McDonald was a part of) Jon B. and many more. Good music transcends color lines that's for sure!
If you REALLY want to hear Michael McDonald go to church, listen to him when he was with the Doobie Brothers singing Taking It to the Streets. Unbelievable!
Yes!! The Doobie Brothers are hip to this day. Which brings up another band that needs do be reckoned with by these young music lovers: Tower of Power!
Quotable moment: "He must have some memory loss because he keep forgettin' bro...he forgot 110 times!" 💜😁😄😂🤣😂😄😁💜👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 You guys are a RIOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yesss! Michael McDonald: That blue eyed soul! One of my favorite musicians back in the day. When I first heard him sing in the 80s, I thought he was black. 😜
Those amazing background vocals are delivered by Mikes sister Maureen. He has some other hits that both his sisters (Kathy & Maureen) sing on. Its an amazing world class gifted family. And they are wonderful salt of the earth real folks.
How refreshing to see youngsters going through a back catalogue of music that's been around for decades and genuinely enjoying their surprise reactions. There are some great artists out there today but the music of our childhoods will always live forever fir the generation's to come.
Thats his sister! Don't get me wrong cos Michael sounds really good, but I actually like the background vocals more on this track. That lady got some soul!
@@bigmona2741 Seen him twice in the last few years, the tempo is slowed down (nothing wrong with that, he's nearly 70 now) but he can still find the range in his voice when he needs it.
They are too young to know about Doobie Brothers...that Man sung a duet with Patti La Belle.. he is one soulful dude...Warren G sampled the instrumental for Regulate!
One of the smoothest, most soulful voices in music. His voice is like velvet and is as smooth as silk one of my favorite vocal artists. He was fabulous with the Doobie Brothers, and his solo work was filled with the rich vocals I had loved so much in the Doobie Brother's China Grove, and Taking It to the Streets. Great song choice.
I was your age when most of the music you review was new. Spent a couple hours here, wallowing in some memories and cheering y'all on hearing it the first time. Liked, subscribed and rang that bell!
Saw them on FB tonight with a link to Twitter by a friend, they were watching Phil Collins, immediately came over to their channel, liked and subscribed and hit the bell. I'm really loving how these young guys connect to music.
Y'all need to listen to "This is it" by Kenny Loggins. Your lives will never be the same. The arrangement is so crazy on that one. Especially the live version
"He must got some memory loss cause he keep forgetting" Cracked me up! I laughed out loud. I love your reactions to so many different types of music! Thanks so much for sharing and bringing smiles and memories to so many of us!
Michael McDonald - classic. This came out when I was middle school age (we used to call it junior high) and for a while (before cable and MTV), I thought he was African American. When I found he was white, I was surprised. "That dude is white?" lol So smoooth. He was once part of the great group The Doobie Brothers. Oh PLEASE if you haven't reacted to them, you will LOVE them. You'll hear Michael McDonald's voice in their "Takin' it to the Streets" and "What a Fool Believes" and their "Black Water' is so Americana. You will NOT be disappointed. Great reaction guys!
Add to that "Listen to the Music", "Jesus is Just Alright", and "Long Train Dunno" from the original lineup, "Minute by Minute" and "It Keeps You Running" from the Michael McDonald years.
Y'all went viral on Twitter & brought me here. U guys are making this "old lady" smile. I love seeing y'all enjoy the tunes of my growing up yrs. 4 older bros made sure I knew great music.. @ 4yo I cld name every member of Zeppelin & the Beatles and tell u John Bonham was already dead. Their fave game has been brought back in what u boys are doing here. There's so many great artists.. I'm 💯 excited for ur journey. Don't. Stop. (which reminds me.. Fleetwood Mac. U have to hear some FM. Their live album done in the 90s & backed by a full orchestra is unbelievable!! "Rhiannon" is haunting. And worth a listen. But Zeppelin will always be my fave band n Whole Lotta Love is only the tip of the iceberg.) Stay safe Stay healthy Wear a mask. And thanks again 😍
Same l didn't know he was with SD. I knew about the Doobies tho. But interestingly enuff l used 2 luv SD songs 2. Now l know why. Thx 4 sharing history.
@@nynurse2 Dianne Steely Dan are my Favourite Group and yet really they aren’t a Band Either (and admit it) Donald Fagen (Lead Singer and Keyboards) and Recently Deceased Walter Becker R.I.P Guitar) used only top Session Musicians in the Studio to Complete their albums going through Whole different musicians to perfect their Sound so really the band Steely Dan consisted of Donald and Walter And Session/Studio Musicians. Some of them the best at what they do.I Won’t Embarrass myself or you telling you How Steely Dan Got their name as it’s Quite Rude but Highly Novel and Unusual.(Look it up😜) Actually here you go👍 ourpastimes.com/the-origin-of-the-name-steely-dan-12196902.html
l very thankful for you guys you listening all music l still love and play all the time all my favorite singers Michael McDonald yes can really sing keep playing all favorite music you give me chills when here you playing all my favorite singers thank so very much l keep listening
It must be so refreshing and validating for the artists to see these two listen to their songs for the first time and respond in such an authentic and genuine way. I loved to see how Michael McDonald and other artists respond to these two's obvious appreciation. :-)
I had the biggest crush on Michael McDonald. Saw him twice at Red Rocks, CO. Solo and back in the day when he was with the Doobie Brothers. Most recognizable voice ever. You all might want to check out Bob Seger "We got tonight"
Don't be forgettin' that the reason you are bopping along is the absolutely infectious beat laid down by the great Jeff Porcaro, along with Louis Johnson on bass (played on Thriller, Don't Stop, etc.)
Dionne Coburn I am not sure I know that one...these videos are making me realise how many great artists I have neglected! I shall check it out. Stay safe too. :) (As soon as I wrote this I remembered On My Own !!! And Yah Mo B There was with James Ingram I think.) So good thanks for the reminder!!
This guy live is beyond words, I saw him supporting Tina Turner and I can rememeber nothing about what she sang. His voice is so rich. It took the crowd about 2 songs to start dancing because the effect was spiritual.
I'm glad you guys enjoyed Michael McDonald. I could listen to him all day!😁 Good blues/jazz style and his bassist is one of my favorites (from The Doobie Brothers). Peace. 💙🎧🎤🎼🎶
Every single one is like a walk through my childhood then up through the 80’s & 90’s, love your sincere appreciation & reactions! You are awesome... Thank you twins for bringing such joy ❤️ New fan here in Boston!!!
LOL I hate to say it, but the twins must not have ever been in love like that before. Being in love with someone so hard that when you two have broken you keep thinking you should still be in love with them. That's why he's having that memory lose LOL LOL
