Gringo is the spanish adaptation of "green go!". This is the word that the mexican army shouted to the US army during the border war at the end of the XIX century.
@alexiscarvajal4304
@alexiscarvajal4304 2 года назад
That's a cute story and seems short and innecesary to dig more about the topic but the word "gringo" was actually used way before that, there are documents that relate travel from the spain explorers that when had a encounter with greek people they said they speak "griego" (spanish word for greek), then after meeting more cultures they used gringo for "those who lenguage cannot be understood" some documents made by spanish explorers around the 1800's call even gringo (that sounds close to griego in spanish) to people who speak swedish (germanic language), and México have a lot of spanish influence and at the moment both options are really possibles to be taken as the oficial in the future but the "green go home" story is not really based on anything that can be verified.
@rramimon71
@rramimon71 2 года назад
I remember reading in a history book ( can't remember the exact reference) that during the american invasion on Mexico, the american army sang a song reciting something like " we are from the place where the green grass grow........" then people started to say here come the "gringos" as they saw them march on the streets. Call me ignorant if you will, but that makes much more sense to me than the "griegos" version.
@leandro2873
@leandro2873 2 года назад
@@rramimon71 The word "gringo" was in spanish dictionaries a century before the México-USA war and every hispanic country use it. That cute story is the reason why mexicans don't understand that the word doesn't mean "americans" in most countries and it just means "foreigner", especially a person who speaks a language that is totally unintelligible for a spanish-speaker person
@alexiscarvajal4304
@alexiscarvajal4304 2 года назад
@@rramimon71 well, what i said is that theres a more than just one version of where the word gringo come from, since the only related think to the usa army is the old phrases "Blood make the grass grow: kill kill kill" and "what makes the green grass grow?: Blood blood blood", and in both of that formation phrases the accent is focused on the answer kill and blood. But i only put it that way in my last comentary because i was trying to incite people to search for themselves, the think that can't be on debate is the meaning and that is not white man, is someone who language is unintelligible (cant be understood)

you should listen to the song with subtitles, it talks about the border patrol, about how the gringos are racist with the mexicans, and they call them beaners. For us Mexicans, calling us beaners is like calling you black, in a racist way, with hatred. This song is a response to racism, it's like a dialogue between a border policeman and a Mexican in the United States.

Molotov is a very iconic Mexican rock-rap band from the 90's that is known for being anti-political, anti-government and basically they made fun of everything and everybody. The new generation of millennials tried to shut them down over an album cover from 1997. All of their members are Mexican except for Randy Ebright who was born in Michigan.

One of the members of Molotov, the drummer Randy Ebright, who is in fact a "gringo" from Michigan, has had several bad experiences entering his own country with his family. Randy has said that the US agents always go through their personal belongings at customs just because they see that his wife and daughter are latinas. It seems that a "white" guy with a "brown" family is something like a crime so they are separated and put into different lines, and then they're inspected and interrogated. Even his daughter, since the time she was a very, very young child has been inspected and interrogated by the US officials. This inspired Ebright and the rest of the band to write a song about mistreatment of immigrants in the United States. Immigrants, especially those coming from Latin American countries such as México and Venezuela, are mistreated and often turned away or even imprisoned.

@fernieu3537
@fernieu3537 2 года назад
Hey guys just came across your video. And wanted to drop some info. This song was written by the drummer of the band. The Guy that raps in english. He was born in US. But moved to mexico with his father. Just like many mexican americans do. I have cousins that were Born in california but lived in mexico their entire life. So one day the drummer and his mexican wife and daughter tried to cross the border. And then border patrol abused his wife and daughter for looking mexican. So the song basically is expressed very Well From an american and a mexican point of view. Which makes sense since the drummer is technically american he is basically mexican having livred there his whole life. So he understands both sides of the fragile struggle between US. And mexico. The song says some like Im fed up That u keep stereotyping me with a sombrero So listen up Stop calling me beaner - derogative word like the n word but towards mexican its like saying wetback- Then he says Even though we have some mutual respect Dont stick your nose in We never inflate the value money (Like how the US does and using it as an excuse) To cause wars in other countries. (Big stick policy imperealism) We pay the US with petroleum And all get is interests and debt. Meanwhile we have no idea whos keeping all the money (This is the part where we see Bush . Us president V.Fox. mexican president and idk the last person but i assume another president my guess would be Canada's. In undies having fun while portrayed As devils. Assuming that the politicians keep all the money and benefit From the struggles of immigrants) Then he talks about the US giving MEXICO the good name for or making them famous for being bad people killers and drug dealers (Hence in the beginning u actualy see how 3mexicans guys sleep in one bed and go out looking for work early showing in contrast to the lyrics how most immigrants actually do in US. Which is work hard. Not how the media portrays mexicans to be) Then yea hes like u make us fameus for saying theres a drug problem in the border. FROM THE DRUGS THAT WE HARVEST YOU ARE THE CONSUMERS (Thats when u see the cartoon point at camera) Then From the cops point of view he says u know. Dont call me GRINGO which means white guy ( its not deragotory but ppl perceive it this way because of ignorance) So dont call me white guy U beaner Mexican stay on your side of the river The n he switches to the mexican side responding Dont call me beaner Mr. Puñetero (Which translates to jackoff. Or stabber. but its really slang word for KILLER. Puñetero can mean the representation to the border patrol shooting immigrants on the border . which im sure happened in the 1980s to 2000) He continue with Im going to scare the crap out of you Or literally can translate to Im going to Fuck you up For being a fucking racist and a bitch So once again pretty cool Knowing that the drummer is an American that lived in Mexico that was abused by his OWN people and his OWN COUNTRY when trying to enter back with his family. The n the drummer raps in english But the spanish rap part says some like this... Imagine if you

I remember my uncle showing us this group and telling us to never be ashamed to be Mexican because we weren’t illegals (my mom had gotten deported); this song goes into depth about racism and modern colonialism. Ever since I’ve been very interested in Mexican culture, always embracing it and never backing down. Another reason why he mentioned Santa Ana who sold Texas for his life, making Mexico lose territory. A lot of people consider him a traitor. Him saying that to remind them that Native Americans were here before the Pilgrims so we cannot be illegal in our land. I really love this song and seeing this video bought me back to this song 😆

The long and short of the message is “gringo’s” got a lot to say about Mexicans who cross the border illegally. Don’t put thought into why they would risk everything and leave everyone behind… wanna call them drug dealers when “gringo’s” consumption is what drives that “business”. Lots of politics involved, all to benefit governments and not the people, (also, not being pissed at the government making money off of us and instead the hate and racism goes to the person just trying to live a better life) and it’s in the governments best interest to continue to not have a real “legal and attainable” for the “average ‘Jose’” to get to the US. And at the end of the day it’s all B.S. cause it’s stolen land the “gringo’s” are pissed that the Mexicans are on. Whooo…. Again, long and short “rough” concept translation 😉 ***Please react to Tenille Townes, When I Meet My Maker ❤️

The 3 guys are at the border and a gringo comes and hires them to work at the beginning. The whole video is about the "business" relation between the US and Mexico, at government level and socially like when the gringo gets the guys to work for him but then at the same time they are persecuted for crossing the border. Or like when they say "the drugs we sow, you consume". ¡Viva Mexico cabrones! Saludos desde Chile.

I would like to reiterate the part of the song where it reminds us that a large part of USA is Mexican land. I say IS because the treaty that was made between the 2 countries was broken by the US. The Treaty of Guadalupe one of the many treaties the US has broken with the NATIVE people of this continent. When a treaty is broken it is broken completely. "Where your feet are planted would be Mexico!"

This song is a banger. When it came out, I was already a Molotov fan and I didn't like it because of the music style. But with time I realized how much a masterpiece this album was (and this song is insane). I am from a Spanish speaking country, so that's why I was a fan since before this hit.

"Frijolero" is a way in which North Americans classify us Mexicans because we eat a lot of beans. 😅. And the whole song itself refers to the racism that they have towards us and so we make fun of the defects that they have
@bernardovaladez7671
@bernardovaladez7671 6 месяцев назад
this is actually a satire of racism that occurs in the us, when they critize México for drugs but they can't live without them, also they are not quitting on hiring cheap labor etc, this song was very popular back when Molotov released it, bot obly because ir was a very sticky song but also it had a lot of deep meaning within the lyrics. You should definitly translate the lyrics and rewatch the whole video with it. Lots of political antipropaganda.

Gringo is someone who lives in the US and/or Canada and their main language is Inglish. The origin is debated, but the most accepted origin is set in the war between Mexico and the US, maybe from the phrase "green goes" but, no one knows. Fun fact Randy is the gringo in the band, and he wrote this song, based on his own experience.

The real beauty and power of this song is in the Spanish lyrics. This band has always put out great music, not everyone agrees with their message but those who don’t are usually the target of their anti-establishment message. Even their most controversial songs like(P*to), which has been banned in several countries over the misunderstanding of its message as homophobic, is full of social awareness message often hidden in double entendres and double meanings which is very popular throughout Mexico and specifically in CDMX where the band originated. They’re Mexico’s version of Rage Against the Machine.

The song is about racism, the drummer is white but he moved to Mexico and lived there for the majority of his life, he married a Mexican woman and had children, by this point he felt that was his race. When he wanted his daughter to see family in America, in the airport they checked her thinking this little kid would have drugs on her. So he is making fun of rascists

"gringo" in Mexico means something different than in the rest of Latin America, where it just means "white man". In Mexico "gringo" means "US American" regardless of race. Kind of a jab at them for calling themselves Americans, because we all are Americans, from Canada to Argentina. Also it´s waaaay less derogatory, in fact Randy Ebright from Molotov is a White American who mainly wrote this song, he calls himself "El Gringo Loco"

Spanish part: Im really fucked up that you dress me up with a hat Listen, then when I say: “Don’t call me beaner” Although there’s any kind of respect And we do not stick our noses We never inflate the currency Making the war to another countries We’ve pay you with petrol Or interest our debt Meanwhile we don’t know Who’s keeping the money Although you pin us the fame That we are sellers Of the drugs we sow You are the consumers [english part] Don’t call me gringo you fucking beaner Stay at your side of the goddam river Don’t call me, gringo you beaner [Spanish part] Don’t call beaner Mr. jerking I will scare the shit out you For being a racist Don’t call me beaner stupid jerking gringo [English rap] Now I wish I had a dime For every single time I've gotten stared down For being in the wrong side of town And a rich man I'd be If I had that kind of chips Lately I wanna smack the smiles Off these racists [Spanish rap] Could you imagine yourself from the outside? Being a Mexican crossing the border Thinking about your family while you cross leaving everything you know behind Should you to dodge the bullets from some ranch gringos Would you still saying them “good for nothing wetback” if you’d have to start from zero? Now why don't you look down To where your feet is planted That U.S. soil that makes you take shit for granted If not for Santa Anna, just to let you know That where your feet are planted would be Mexico Correcto!
