I think to understand what is so legendary about Nas you need historical context. Keep in mind Nas is only a year older than Eminem who didn't get his break till the early 2000s. Nas was rapping since the late 80s, literally a child. - Even more, he was the artist to bring the hip-hop culture back to its roots (NYC) when the west coast was gaining all the credit. - He was the first rap artist to have a conceptual, cohesive and complete album (Illmatic). - The first rapper to have multiple producers (who are all now considered legends of their own like DJ Premiere, Q-Tip, Large professor) on one project (Illmatic). - He's one of the only rappers still alive who got to witness and was directly involved in the West coast, East coast beef (fun fact actually, he was one of 2Pacs favourite rappers before they got into beef. A beef which they squashed just days before Pac's passing and had plans of making music together). - And finally his lyrical ability, like he mentioned himself int his song: he's a thug poet. He writes poetry, things that those who came up from where he's from get. Its like therapy. If you didn't grow up in NYC back in the day, even more Queensbridge where Nas is from (the biggest ghetto in the US) you won't get how him jus being alive still is a success. NYC was roughhhh in the 80s and 90s and Nas was really about that life too lol. Without a Nas there wouldn't have been an Eminem or the resurgence in what we call "lyrical rap" today in general. There's a reason why he's on everyone's favourite rappers' favourite list.

Nas is THE best to ever do it untouchable. Best with Lyrics, storytelling, poetry, and to paint a picture. You should react to Nas i gave you power or Nas it aint hard to tell. And this song is not when he was 16 he was 16 when he started making his first album Illmatic best album ever. You should react to whole Illmatic then It was written. And go forward. When he says half man half amazin is sample from another song It aint hard to tell One of the best songs ever.

Every rapper at that time was not rapping like this. I can assure you of that haha. There is a reason artist like J cole have songs called "Let Nas Down" once you really understand what Nas is saying and has done for hip hop, you will get it even more. You might be too young to understand right now. If you want to get into Nas for your age, you might want to start with albums Magic, Kings Disease 2 and Kings Disease 1 and go backwards. You might get it a little better.

I think reading the lyrics might have messed up your feeling. Nas creates FEELING. It's like a ride. If you just listen to his flow and feel the hood + depth. It's different than just lyrical word play. Best flow + depth.
