Im a Puerto RIcan-Dominican who lives in Brazil in the northeastern region and I totally identify with what Racionais was saying in their lyrics. This is the real deal here.
As a Brazilian raised in Rio I can say that this song tells the reality of the country. I agree with you @skepticshaman13 and I’m sorry that you’re also struggling with that. My apologies for my compatriots’ bad behavior
Thank you so much for sharing this piece about black/Afro consciousness in Brazil it really touched my soul. As an African born and raised in West Africa, I tell you my consciousness of Black people only started when I moved to the West. Many of us Africans will tell you that we only realized that we are BLACK when we come to these parts of the world. Beacuase back home the challenges we face are different, instead of race issues, it's tribalism. We are so diverse in our different colonial entities called " Countries" that we all still struggle for equity and fairness. And that is the universal spirit of all humans no matter where we find ourselves. Your journey through parts of this great diverse country of Brazil has inspired me to start learning Brasilian-Portuguese so as to embark on a journey to explore Brazil myself. Brazil is like a continent by itself. There are a couple of Portuguese-speaking countries in Africa too e.g Guinea- Bissau, Angola, Mozambique. Countries coloniazed by Portugal
They definitely got BARRZ. This is the Universal Spirit of OUR people who are conscious and revolutionary. I love Brazil it literally feels like home when I am there.
They're not just relevant, they're gods here. All the new rappers/trappers just sing about drugs/cars/chicks. The essence was lost but when these dudes come into the house everybody just chills. Miss the old days when songs (not just hip-hop) had a message. Nice work guys, you're awesome!
Since I know you guys loved Bahia, a fun fact, Mano Brown Family is actually from here, Bahia. Like a lot of people from the North East, mainly black, they migrate to são Paulo searching for a better life, job opportunities. A huge portion of the favelas population comes from here. That's how são Paulo and others Southeast big cities got build. Btw, I literally just asked about April's hair lol looks great ❤ loved the react
Oh Yeah! I live in Puerto Rico and I’m always driving around listening to Racionais while driving! For me after “Olhos Coloridos - Sandra de Sá” Racionais is like my Anthem!! For us African Brazilians never forget! We won’t forget! 💪🏾
Yes, I am one of the white kids who grew up listening to Racionais on the radio. They cover several angles from life in the favelas, but they also reference American culture and hip-hop. They are HUGE in Brazil until this day. Their music is fierce and also beautiful in the language aspect. There is a very rich poetry underneath the rymes. I am sure they will be studied in the schools one day. They blew up to the general public after a very controversial videoclip, "An Inmate's diary" (you can find it subtitled), recorded inside a large prisional complex called "Carandiru" (there is also a film with the same name), which is now a large park in São Paulo. The story is based on actual events that happened in 1992, when 111 inmates were killed by the police after a riot. At the time, Brazil was devastated by misery and hunger, after almost 30 years of dictatorship. When democracy took over, Racionais were constantly featured on radio and MTV, although Mano Brown was never fond with the media, and they spent several years performing on the underground. Still, a lot of kids would trade K7 tapes with that new "rap" thing. Today they are touring in the U.S.
Hey Matt, I’m absolutely amazed by the cheer amount of information that you just presented to me in a nut shell, for which I thank you so much. I’m out of Brazil for 45 years and didn’t have much contact with my culture. I feel I missed a lot. However, there’s no doubt in my mind that what we see there now is pure consciousness. It certainly doesn’t seem to me that there is any space left to hide anymore. What sensational piece of work is That! Peace ✌️
Damn, I was hoping you guys could see this video, see these rappers. Rap in Brasil always was political and conscious, only nowadays we are seeing trap and luxury talk. Rap and hip hop culture always a political movement in Brasil. and that guy that you asked the name is Mano Brown, our pope. and yes, they are still relevant. in fact, if they were North Americans, they would be just as big as DMX, Biggy and 2pac. Loved your reaction, love your channel❤
They remind me of the Last Poets and Gil Scott-Heron. Yes, I’m old skool and I love this! The pictures of Malcolm X, Tupac and others shows how we are globally tied together. Thank you for sharing this - it made my day! 👍🏾✊🏾
"Richest people" still people, so it has nothing to do with knows Racionais mcs, for what really necessary to knows something is being a human being. 😢😅😂
Its interesting how people all over the world express themselves thru music---a universal language ❤. It goes to show how the world is interconnected and you cannot suppress the human spirit(even though many try).
Yasss! Your feed came across my RU-vid I like to watch travel vlogs so I subscribed. What a surprise to see you giving us some history of the afro communities in these countries and to hear the Racionsis MCs with the lyric interpretation was epic! The conscious vibes! I was shocked! Great rappers and those lyrics totally touched my heart! Much love strength, blessings and power to this group of conscious rappers and thank you! from Dallas, Tx❤️❤️❤️💯💯
I've been going to the United States for over 40 years and I realize that North American blacks are losing their African origins and culture. Lately in America the culture of prosperity and the achievement of getting rich is blinding the black race. Young North Americans don't know how to point on the world map where the African continent is. But do you know what was the last car that the basketball idol bought recently.
FUN FACT: Racionais have a song called "CAPITULO 4 VERSÍCULO 3", and the lyrics mentions Avenida Rebouças (Rebouças Avenue). This is exactly the same avenue that Eldorado Shopping mall is located. And that's where I first met The Yarbros
I've been watching all your videos here in Brazil, and it's really cool to see how much you're really interested in culture, history, in really getting to know the country and our people. Mano Brown, the singer, is a very important guy, he never sold himself to the system, he always made music against the system, he also has a podcast on You Tube, Mano a Mano. Unfortunately racism still exists all over the world, with this growth of the right it has increased even more, however, we see a lot of people fighting against it, movements against racism and laws to punish it have been applied, people denouncing it, people have been arrested for acts and racist speeches, here in Brazil it is a crime. It is unacceptable that such a horror as racism still exists.
Thank you for sharing. Yes, understanding and engaging in daily life wherever we are is very important to us.. Thanks for letting us know the state of affairs here.
My favorite couple ever' I am from Sao Paulo Brazil and I LOVE RACIONAIS MC's....I've been living in San Diego- CA - USA for 15 years gratefully married! You both are the sweetest
Nice react guys! Racionai's are truly the real reference of the streets here and it kinda resonates with a lot of different states and cities, also with different cultures and cities, not only São Paulo and Rio, i teach english in the south next to Porto Alegre where you guys have been and in the public and private schools the kids even sing their songs cause they have a lot of curiosity to their lyrics and want to learn about the past and the hard knock life of many. All the best to you guys, the quality and the editing are amazing, everything is on point!
Nele vcs , sentiriam o valor e a influência do continente africano , no Brasil 🇧🇷✊🏿🇧🇷✊🏿🇧🇷✊🏿
I'm from Brazil and I'm impressed how your knowsense is represented in this video and this trip tha you guys did. I felt that you felt Brazil! I would like that my contry could feel the same that both you had it! But, beyond that, Grateful! And congratz!!! New follower here.. Forever!!!
You have to remember, they were the first Africans taken to the Americas and they were the last to be liberated. The Portuguese were known for their cruelty. You guys are always educating your oublic. I learned Portuguese about 20 years ago because of my passion for Brazilian culture. It was so enrichening. We think that life for African Americans is hard, and it is but it's nothing like being black in Brazil. Having lived in Portugal, understand their mentality, and it ain't very nice. African American who live in Portugal live in a fantasy world, but they have no idea what the black people in Portugal go through. Thanks guys!
Tears flowed while watching the video! Proud of our fight and knowing that no matter the corner of the world, there will be people who fight for the same purpose! Thanks for the video! Proud to be Brazilian!!!
Racionais Mc's, SNJ, Sabotage, Trilha sonora do gueto, Facçao central, gog, dexter, MV Bill, RZO! are some of the many names of Brazilian rap, all of them containing high content, and narrating the facts of our reality!
Thankyou for sharing, love this vibe... its so comforting knowing we have brothers and sisters throughout the diaspora who share our fight for freedom. #UnitedWeWin
I'm from Brazil , Sao Paulo, and I live in Utah thr last 8 years, so every time when I want conect with my rootsI listen Racionais. They are the voice of black and poor people in Brazil.
Is really nice to see very kind people's like you guys, came to brazil see our culture and our hip hop rap, today im living in california but brazil is my home always.
Have you guys heard of RICON SAPIENCIA, he’s from Sao Paulo and has a cool groove that also portraits the political and social issues from Brazil! Listen to PONTA DE LANCA (spear head!)! ✌🏻😎 salve!
Racionais is still very relevant. Netflix has recently published a documentary about the band and Mano Brown, on of the singers, has a podcast called Mano a Mano which was top 1 on Spotify for months or years. Racionais is also a "must read" for university entrance exams like UNICAMP's, side by side with literature's greatest classics, so much their importance in representing Brazil's urban scenario.
Congratulations on the hymn reaction that represents part of the Brazilian population
Thanks for the nostalgia ❤❤❤ I closed my eyes and I felt home 😢❤😊 10 more years I will be back home soon my little girl turned 21. Again thanks a lots brother 👊🏾👊🏾 also I’m from Boca do Rio a hood near Costa Azul where you guys used to stay..
And, yes, what she said at the end is very true: Racionais is very much poetic. If u guys understood Portuguese for sure you'd be much more mesmerized ❤
I am from Brazil and loved to watch u guys reacting to this song. Racionais MC's are legends in our country, everybody respects them and their story, They are inspiration and reference for many ppl here.
You guys should check another icon of the brazilian conscious rap called Sabotage, he died 20 years ago but he is still an icon today within the hip hop,rap community.A black dude from the guetos of SAMPA(Sao Paulo) pay attention to his lyrics.Greentings from a black brazilian man who lives in Bangkok,Thailand. Say word!!!
Is there any way to get a copy of the dvd or a download (with captions). This reminds me of The Last Poets. I haven’t seen anything this profound from Brazil since City of God.
Slv The Yarbros, sou brasileiro e estou vendo vcs pela primeira vez.
they are still kings of hip hop in brazil... they never show up like a mainstream, they always work at the underground, and got more visibility than the mainstreams... actually they are not THE FIRST conscious hip hop in brazil.. but they were and still are, the most iconic and famous conscious rap that we have... great choice, that make me really proud u guys are awesome, great video
Racionais is the biggest rap group in Brazil and Latin America, nowadays they are still very heard by everyone who enjoys this style and have great relevance for younger singers.
All of Racionais' raps from that era were exactly what we needed to hear in the suburbs. Nowadays, things have changed. We've changed, the country has changed, and Racionais have too. But their songs are undoubtedly immortal for those who lived through it. I attended countless Racionais shows, but the one that left the biggest mark on me was in my own neighborhood, watching it up close.
Mano Brown! That the name you wanted. Man, it's rare to see someone listening to this for the first time. It was amazing to be able to share that feeling of amusement once more. Thank yoi guys!
Thank you so much for sharing all this precious information with the world, specially with Americans, Afro Americans who has their history erased and ignored.
Racionais MC's are the best!!! Raising awareness with its impactful and realistic lyrics! It was no surprise that they were mentioned (more than once, in fact) in the biggest high school test in Brazil! ❤
