Breakups stuck together everybody knows one and every rock band grows one... Pat Benatar in Retain a Name category... ABBA in Bork bork bork category...
"Just a Girl" is a great song and is way more representative of early No Doubt. It'll barely sound like the same band. "Spiderwebs" is another fun one.
Actually had the privilege of seeing No Doubt in concert back in early 1997 when they were just getting started and were on tour with the Goo Goo Dolls and Bush. Great music, great show, and Gwen was an absolute fire plug back then....crazy energy through their whole set.
@@julieharden2433 yeah, I love that one. My favorites actually tend to be from their first two albums, from when nobody knew who they were yet. They had a some really brilliant songs on those albums. One came out in 1992, and the other one in 1995 not too long before Tragic Kingdom.
@@scottswenson383 I saw them in 1997, too. It was their own tour, and I had never heard of the band who opened for them. so maybe they started on their own and joined with the Goo Goo Dolls, or started off with them and broke off into their own tour. It was in July that year.
This reaction is why we love this channel. Seeing someone enjoy bands they have never heard before, smile, and appreciate talent is what makes us happy.
There is just something about Gwen’s voice and personality that is so unique and compelling. She went on to have a huge solo career and has achieved icon status!
@@andrewthezeppo - Obviously it's bleached! But do you get my point? She looks more "exotic" than a typical ethnic Italian or Euro... Anyway - yah, saying she is blonde probably looked pretty dumb
@@gregbrogan9061 well let's just agree she's beautiful haha I don't think of her as being exotic looking she looks like a mix of old Hollywood and skater to me, which I'm pretty sure is the look she is going for.
I can't believe she's 50 years old and looks the damn same. No Doubt was a killer in the 90's. Their album Tragic Kingdom brings my back to my teenage years. You can't go wrong with any song off that album!
@@michelleestrada9224 My bad! Yes, Gwen HAS an incredible solo career. Apparently, she also has a fiancé. Blake has proposed...breaking celebrity news. ❤️
This song is about the lead singer's (Gwen Stefani) break-up with her ex-boyfriend, Tony Kanal, who's ALSO in the band. He's the bassist. The group has been around since the late 1980s, but really became successful in the mid-late 1990s. This is entire song is about her relationship with her bandmate who broke up with her...but they still stayed in the same band, even to this day.
the two wilson sisters, Carnie Wilson & Wendy Wilson are the daughters of Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys. Chynna Phillips is the daughter of Michelle Phillipa of the Mama and the Papas
You very well may have opened a big rabbit hole for yourself now, at minimum a dozen No Doubt songs, then you get into Gwen Stefani's solo career and that spans well over a decade her 1st husband was Gavin lead singer for Bush, now married to Blake Shelton Country Singer
Thank you for reacting, this song has a lot of meaning in my life and the lyrics in the beginning they remind me of a friend that passed away around the time this song was a hit. This is a very unique band, has a lot of great hits. Many people are not aware that Gwen Stefani was the vocalist of this band before she went solo. My other top 2 will be "Hella Good" and "Just a Girl"
This is a good song like Underneath it All, however, I would like to suggest some upbeat tunes like: Just a Girl, Hey Baby, Sunday Morning, Spiderwebs and their cover of It's My Life.
That is Gwen Stefani singing lead, and she used to date one of the guys in the band. In fact, toward the end, where she is singing to the bass player, that is the guy. The song was released 25 years ago in 1995. Since then, Gwen has been married and given birth to, I believe three children, and is now in a relationship with Country music star Blake Shelton.
You're doing more 90s now. Was thinking today driving, maybe you need some bigtime club music from the 90s. Real McCoy-Another Night; Haddaway-What is Love; Livin Joy-Dreamer; Robin S-Show me Love.
Mm yeah but those are techno songs.. Nothing really memorable about them. Cool for us BC we lived them but without memories I'm not sure those songs are with listening as such
Gwen Stefani- “Hollaback girls” , please! A song Gwen did when she went solo- she and the bass player broke up and this song speaks (no pun intended) about that- I also think I remember the band (the guys) in general ,not being happy with her getting more attention- as you can see them bickering in the video- the photo op starts with them all and then just her being photographed.. The looks they’re giving and her sad expression clearly shows what’s going on between them-so she did end up with a solo career- 🧡❤️✌️✨
@@radiofreeastrocast3010 I remember that they were actually arguing in the video. The band spoke about it and that fact ended up in one of those pop video shows on VH1
After her breakup with Tony and then the band she went on to marry Gavin Rosedale from the band Bush. They had 3 boys together. She is now engaged to Blake Shelton a country singer.
Good Rock/Pop 90's band Gwen Stefani is the singer who also went Solo "Spiderwebs" ,"Underneath It All" "It's My Life" are other good songs you might like from No Doubt, Another band to check out sometime is Ace Of Base - "Don't Turn Around" & "Living In Danger" another female band from the 90's
No Doubt continued on with the Ska flavored music after Madness, The Specials, etc., with an updated style. Gwen was a baddass girl, with fashion model beauty.
So many great songs by this band. Gwen singing Hollaback Girl is such a fun song. She wrote it because of gossip about her she had heard. Don't know if that's true,, but still love the song.
Patches Courtney Love was making some "crap" comments about Gwen. Pharrell Williams and Gwen collaborated on Hollabck Girl. Pharrell recommended to NBC to have Gwen on The Voice as a coach. Apollo was only 4 months old when she decided to do the show. It wasn't far from her home and she could bring Apollo with her. She wanted to spend as much time with her kids as she could.
it's Gwen Stephani she was in the group No Doubt she sings for the guitarist they had a relationship together it was over they wrote this wonderful song I was 22 when it came out 😭😭😭
Gwen wrote this song about her ex boyfriend Tony the bass player in the band. They were together for 8 years before he broke up with her. That had to be awkward singing this together.
The singer is Gwen Stefani 25 years ago. No Doubt was the band she became known for. They formed in 1986 but made their breakthrough with album Tragic Kingdom in 1995. First single was Just a Girl, second Spiderwebs and third Don't Speak. Four other songs were released as a single after this, the album was huge success. Stefani recently remembered its anniversary on Instagram. Don't Speak played everywhere in 96-97.
Love Gwen Stefani and love this song. My daughter used to play it when her best friend went to live in Australia and she was distraught about losing her 😢🎶💙✊
You think you can jam to this one, you should try “Sunday Morning,”“Spider Webs,” “Excuse Me Mister,” and “Just A Girl” My favorite album of theirs is actually Return to Saturn, which is a fairly unpopular choice. Rock Steady and Tragic Kingdom are probably tied. Best three albums. I like their crazy early stuff too like “Trapped In A Box.”
This is one of many great songs from the album, "Tragic Kingdom." It is a play on Disneyland's Magic Kingdom. No Doubt is a local Orange County band. My friend went to high school with Gwen Staffani, the lead singer. This song is about her break up with one of the other band members. She later went on to a solo career. She is a judge/coach on NBC's The Voice and dating Blake Shelton. Listen to their songs, "I'm Just A Girl", and, "Spider Webs."
It's almost painful watching the band members 'act' out scenes of resentment that are no doubt (see what I did there?) more truth than fiction, mixed with smiling past times on stage when they first started to get big.
Tragic Kingdom (1995) sold 16 million copies and reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200. It has sold over 16 million copies worldwide, and was certified diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in the United States and Canada, platinum in the United Kingdom, and triple platinum in Australia. (Taken from Wikipedia). Gwen Stefani dated the bass player, Tony Kanalm, they were together 7 years and I believe they have a child together. It was their break-up that fueled her songwriting for this album. Since the breakup of the band, Gwen Stefani has done four solo albums, four studio albums one extended play, 30 singles (including eight as a featured artist), four promotional singles, most of the singles were collaborations with hip-hop artists one video album, and 21 music videos. She met country artist Blake Shelton when they were working together on the show "The Voice" as judges and they have been together several years now and are engaged to be married.
@@buster3448 She did a Las Vegas Residency a year ago and did all her hits including songs from No Doubt. It was awesome but at her age the "Gwen" moves all over the stage with high energy and singing live takes a toll on her. You can't expect someone to stay the same for 25 years. Plus she has a busy life with her 3 boys.
No Doubt this is a great band. Great music on all their CD's. Gwen is beautiful and an amazing singer, discovered by accident by her brother when he needed a lead singer for his band. The rest is history.
Yes, I agree. Equally as hard to believe that 24/7 Music Video Networks are no longer around to show Music Videos to this Music Video-Deprived Generation. That's the only way that They would be able to see what every Era of Music contributed to the Music World, and They could see who started a certain style of Music and begin to find out what Music Artists from the past were the Real Creators of a particular genré of Music. In other words, Music Video Networks, and the 'Vee Jays' who hosted them, served as an actual 'Music Timeline' of sorts, so that You would know who started what kind of Music first.
🤩 LOVE Gwenie⚘/No Doubt...for many years! Hey Javee, she's my top fave all around artist. She has many facets to her artistry and music style. I absolutely love how she can sing Ska then go to the opposite spectrum and rap-sing "Hollaback Girl" and "Luxurious" (ft. Slim Thug)...two of my faves you should react to. 👍
No Doubt and the lead singer Gwen Stefani both have their own EPIC music (and celebrity pop culture) Rabbit Hole journeys. My journey... I got into No Doubt in 1992 with their self titled debut album "No Doubt". It was a ska vibe, with their sound and especially Gwen's powerful vocals INSTANTLY knocking my socks off (I was an Oingo Boingo child, and that ska sound hit home; and Gwen's voice was like a powerful, commanding, enchanting lounge singer [I mean that in the best, best possible way]). I Heard it first from a friend's friend randomly in his trailer home (we were all college students at UCSB), and some friends and I were rushing to their live concert in a small venue a very, very short time later. They were AMAZING live at that concert. Gwen wore a Notre Dame cheerleader outfit ("ND" on the front, they played the theme from Darth Vader's song ["The Imperial March"] from The Empire Strikes Back on horns for their intro)(NOTE: I think those were both at that concert, either of those might have been the second concert I went to during their "Tragic Kingdom" tour). I bought a blue shirt at the concert with a cartoon Gwen jumping mid-air and singing on the back and a "No Doubt" logo on the front (it looked great) and a No Doubt sticker (NOTE: again, I think it was that first concert, but it could have been the second one I attended). People didn't know the band and would smile and jokingly say to me "No Doubt!" in that slang voice (which was a goofy slang phrase well known at that time) when I wore it. I learned later that No Doubt started with lead male vocal John Spence and Gwen as backup vocals. Then Alan Meade taking lead vocal, and then Gwen became lead vocal. But this was before I started following them. There have also been lots of changes to the band's instrumentalists as well. I missed their 2nd album "Beacon Street". I didn't know about it and never saw it in our town's (Isla Vista, aka "I.V.") local record store. I caught up to it later and love it. I caught the release of their album "Tragic Kingdom", and it's packaging made it clear that album was being marketed at a much, much higher level (outside CD text said something like, "Including their hit 'I'm Just A Girl'"... and that song had not hit the radio or MTV circuit yet). The sound was much more produced, but the album is amazing. We used a sample from "Spiderwebs" for our answering machine. Shortly after, the song "I'm Just A Girl" hit MTV and the band rocketed into pop culture. Again, we rushed to their concert, small venue. Blink 182 opened for them, but we didn't know who they were then. I knew Gwen's brother Eric moved on around "Tragic Kingdom" to write for the cartoon "The Simpson's" (in that era, "The Simpson's" was packed with great writers and great writing). After that, I lost track of them. I graduated college, life happened, I lost touch with exploring new music. So I will let other people pick up the story from there...
Well if you like this song you will like their very first song "I'm Just a Girl", Hella Good", Sunday Morning, "Hey Baby", It's my Life", Underneath it all", "Ex-girlfriend" and "Running". The lead singer is Gwen Stefani (she use to date the base player Tony in the band) and the song "Don't Speak" was written after he ended their relationship also a song called "Cool" from her solo work is about her and Tony remaining friends after marrying and having kids with other people. Some of her hi are "Hollaback Girl", "Luxurious" and Cool" those are the best of her solo catalogue but there are more, hope you can react to some or all of them think you will enjoy them.
Glad you liked it... did you notice the T-shirts of the drummer and bass player from the live footage. The drummer had his Madness t-shirt on, who you have reacted to once. The bass player had his “the jam” t-shirt on, who you have yet to discover. Try “ town called malice” as an introduction.
You might recognize her as one of the judges on The Voice (Gwen Stefani). They had a ton of hits, my fave is Spiderwebs or Just a Girl. Then she went solo, you'll like Hollaback Girl. She was married to Gavin Rossdale (whose band Bush you should also check out) Now she's engaged to Blake Shelton
I remember how new and fresh sounding this band was, then this single came out which added to their popularity. Their sound just jumped off the record. Filled a badly needed void in the music scene at the time.
i agree with another comment that the whole album tragic kingdom is epic start to finish. its sad that entire albums of great tunes is a relic of my youth :(
They were my FAVORITE band in the 90s when I was in high school! Saw them in concert twice. Fun fact- the lead singer, Gwen Stefani's brother Eric wrote most of the songs that are on this album, but left the band before the album was released (and this is the album that made them famous). Gwen wrote a lot of the lyrics while her brother wrote a lot of the music. Their sound changed a lot on their next album since Eric wasn't the lead songwriter anymore.
It was also the reaction that the band had when they started getting famous and she was the one because she was a beautiful lead singer that started getting all the attention
Gwen Stefany...she's an amazing singer and she's beautiful...you should watch her on The Voice, she is a judge on the show..she is even more stunning now in her 50's...
FYI this is Gwen from the voice. She divorced Gavin Rossdale lead singer for Bush. She now dates Blake Shelton who got divorced from his wife Miranda Lambert
