I'm so happy you watch this version! I'm one of the participants🙌When I was 18years old, I performed with ONE OK ROCK. It was my happiest day in my life. Absolutely It's my unforgettable memory. This version's ''We Are'' is my favorite song and video🙌
This is part of a project called "18 FES" by NHK, where 1,000 18-year-olds, each with their own struggles, were selected from applicants to collaborate with artists. The song "We are" was composed, inspired by these young people. That’s why performing it with them brings a sense of unity and delivers something far beyond just music-something truly powerful. It’s also my favorite live performance by ONE OK ROCK. Here is the English translation of what Taka said at the beginning: As we reach this day, I’m sure you’ve all been through a lot of different experiences, and there are undoubtedly many more ahead for each of you. The same goes for us - there are plenty of things that we’ll face in the future as well. There’s one thing I want to say: You are no longer children. I believe you’ve grown into fine adults. In this world, there are countless adults who, despite their age, are disappointing. At the same time, there are many young people, even those still minors, who live with amazing thoughts and passions. Within each of you, there’s something intense-whether it’s passion, a sense of justice, guilt, or other emotions. I always strive to live without lying to any of these feelings. There will be many challenges ahead, but I hope that when you face them, you’ll move forward without betraying your true reactions. With that sentiment, I created this song. I’m sure you’re feeling a deep, burning passion in your hearts right now. Let’s play together from this moment on and turn this into an incredible performance. Are you ready?
Thank you for this translation! I often watch this version (my favorite) and cry every time! I am a grandmother and this goes straight to my heart even at my age, I think everyone can relate no matter their age.
It was, I understand, at the time that the age of majority was lowered from 20 to 18 (it had been partially done earlier), it was hugely significant for those attending.
Thank you for this description in Eng. Not only Luke, but also those ppl who read this will understand how much this "We Are" performance means a lot them.
The first time I saw One Ok Rock was in NY. I drove 5 hours to see them because I wasn’t sure how frequently they play in the US. When I got there, a nice Japanese guy and his wife saw me looking for a spot to stand, and offered a spot next to them. I thanked them and we talked after the show, apparently their daughter was apart of this performance, and the dad said it made him cry every time he watched it. I thought that was so sweet. He said they came over to the US and felt at home, and said if I ever went to Japan, maybe it would feel the same way. I definitely felt it when I took my trip there last year. Such a sweet couple, I won’t forget that moment and this amazing performance
親愛なるG.O.T Gamesへ この場を借りて感謝を (Dear G.O.T Games I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude.) 実は私はあなたの動画で初めて、ONE OK ROCKを聴きました。東京ドームでのライブのリアクション動画です。 (Actually, I first heard ONE OK ROCK through your video. This is a reaction video from the live concert at Tokyo Dome.) ワンオクとこの曲に出会わせてくれたのは、あなたとあなたの涙のお陰です。あなたは私が観て来たユーチューバーの中でも、最も綺麗な涙を流される方だと思っています。 (It's thanks to you and your tears that I discovered ONE OK ROCK and this song. I think you shed the most beautiful tears out of all the RU-vidrs I've seen.) あなたの温かく真っ直ぐなコメントと涙にいつも泣かされてます。 (Your warm and honest comments and tears always make me cry.😢) くそー、また泣いちまった... (Damn, I'm crying again.)
This was a project for a Japanese TV program. The program was about 2 hours long, and this video is the last clipping. The contents are explained below. At that time in Japan, the turning point of 18 years old was attracting attention, such as the right to vote being given from 18 years old instead of 20 years old. Amidst this, a TV station came up with a project to have ONE OK ROCK collaborate with 18-year-olds. It had not yet been decided whether they would sing a song. The conditions for participation were to be 18 years old and to have a strong passion. Many videos were collected from all over Japan, including videos of people beating drums, videos of people riding long distances on bicycles, and videos of people talking about their past failures. ONE OK ROCK watched them all and selected 1,000 people. They then created a song called "We Are" and decided to sing the song with them in chorus. A thousand 18-year-olds practiced singing together all over the country and gathered in Tokyo. The chorus with ONE OK ROCK was only one take. I think this clearly shows that ONE OK ROCK's appeal doesn't just come from their talented singing.
I wish people would request this version more than the other and link the version with the whole video. Seeing them go through every video to select the 1000 people makes this performance even more incredible. You learn more about this song and why Taka wrote it. Seeing 1000 18 year olds sing this song that Taka wrote for them and the emotion is truly incredible. Only OOR could do something like this. This version makes the 2018 Ambitions version so much more powerful because you understand how much it means to teens in Japan. You really have to check out "Nobody's Home" live at Yokohama arena 2013 next. This is the most emotional performance Taka has ever given. We've seen Taka get emotional a lot, but he's never broken down like he does on this performance. He wrote this song for his parents to apologize for all of the trouble he caused them over the years, which led to him running away and his parents disowning him. This was the first concert his parents went to, which is why he's so emotional. At the end he yells out that he loves them. After the reaction you really should look up the lyrics. It'll help you understand why it's so personal. The more you learn about Taka and everything he's gone through you see why he's so special and the most emotional vocalist. ONE OK ROCK have been my favorite band for over 13 years now. I love them so much. This song makes me cry every time I listen to it. Their messages are so beautiful and Taka's voice is the most beautiful in the whole world imho. And I absolutely LOVE your reaction videos to them! You are so authentic, I love how open you are about your thoughts and show us your raw emotions! Please never ever change! (it is what Taka said in his speech in the beginning - he told those young people to always stay true to themselves and their emotions ♥) I remember you saying you will see them live at the end of this year? When will you see them? I saw them live in Düsseldorf on Saturday (my 8th ONE OK ROCK concert ♥) and they were absolutely AMAZING. It feels like they are getting better and better and better with every passing year. I love them so much. Thank you for sharing your reactions with us! (P.S.: My favorite song of OOR's is "Liar" - I would love if you could react to this live performance of it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cdKZlPGEo8w.html )
There is actually a whole documentary even on RU-vid somewhere how this performance came together, but subtitles are a must. In actuality this is how the song was born itself - written for entirety for this moment and message, this is the very first official We Are performance from what I've seen in the documentary. Dozens of people submitting their videos to OOR while the band reviewing them about their struggles and reacting to them. It was a long process, but created such amazing performance.
Big thanks! I was moved by the sooo beautiful performance💖 OOR's fan base is wide, from young people to the elderly. I've seen many comments from people who are suffering in life (cancer patients, depression, bullying, etc.) saying that OOR gave them hope and courage to live. They are not just a rock band, but a special band that leads everyone to happiness. To me..ONE OK ROCK is the best band in the universe!!!💖💖💖
Luke...made me cry again❤ The 1st 18 Fes (2016) This is a message song made to give courage and encouragement to 18-year-olds who are coming of age, to overcome difficulties♪ Taka always gives people the strength to live!!! OOR doesn't appear on Japanese TV or media, it was really special and surprising!!! I can't wait for you to see them live🤗❤❤❤
"How u can not be emotionaly", sadly theres a lot of reactors in the internet that dont get it at all. Great reaction as always, thats the reason why I love One Ok Rock, they put a lot of effort and meaning to the song something that most of another artist doesnt archiev at least for me.
wow❗Finally❗This was my No.1 recommendation ONE OK LOCK video. This is the only show they performed on TV.I'm so happy we could watch this together🙌!And in October you can shout〝We Are!〝 with Taka!I'm so happy for you!Thank you for the reaction❤
I am very happy that you had this reaction. I have listened to this video dozens of times and it still makes me cry every time I watch it. In the past, did rock singers ever sing with young people in this way? I really wanted to show you and I appreciate you choosing this one. From a Japanese woman in her 60s
Thanks Luke for making this incredible reaction! This performance was amazing and your reaction too. I’m a big fan of One Ok Rock and Got games channel
下手くそな翻訳ですが、どうぞ (It's a poor translation, but here you go.) 2:03『ええと、今日という日を迎えるのに、色んなことがあったと思いますけれども。みんなにはこれから先、色んなことがきっと、起きていきます。僕たちにも同じように色んなことが起きていきます。一つだけ言いたいのは、もう皆さんは子どもではありません。立派な大人だと、僕は思ってます。』 (Well, I'm sure a lot of things have happened to get to this day. I'm sure many things will happen to you all in the future. The same things happen to us too. All I want to say is that you are not children anymore. I think you are all fine adults.) 2:25『歳をとっても、しょーもない大人は、世の中には腐るほど居るし、例え未成年であっても素晴らしい思考と情熱を持ってこの世の中で生きている人もたくさんいます。』 (There are plenty of old, stupid adults in the world. There are also many minors who live in this world with wonderful thoughts and passions.) 3:04『皆さんの気持ちの中にある、熱いものだったりとか、正義感だったりとか、罪悪感だったりとか、色んな感情がありますけれども、そういったひとつひとつに嘘をつかずに生きていくことは僕が一番、いつももっとうにして生きてることです。』 (You all have many emotions inside you, such as passion, a sense of justice, guilt, etc. Living without lying to each and every one of those emotions is what I try to do the most, and what I always try to do.)
It's been years since this presentation and I remember I had exactly the same reaction as you when I saw it... That was the first live of We Are that they uploaded if I remember correctly, so it was a great mix of emotions between being moved by everyone who was selected to participate, happy for them and the memorable moment they were able to share and envy for wanting to be there and be part of them. Honestly, until a few months ago I kept crying every time I saw this Live, but recently I had been able to see it with a smile, but now with your reaction I am once again a sea of tears 😭🤧
Finally🥲 I know you love this and you made me cry. ONE OK ROCK's song, lyrics and stage presentation are really amazing. I think I'm lucky to get to know them and live my life while they are here.
I've watched so many of your reactions to One OK Rock and I'm glad you finally reacted to this. I knew it would get you emotional. This is the video that got me into the band and I still cry whenever I watch this video. ❤
from Japan I loved your reaction movie recently. Probably your first time reaction abut One Ok Rock was this song ”We are”. When I watched it,I noticed that One OK Rock is amazing band. You made me notice it. Of course I am Japanese and knew ther existance but I didn't know how great they are. I appreciate you. I whish you all the best in your future endevr. And I'm looking forward to coming to Japan with your family someday.
LoL I knew you wouldn't be ready for this🤣 18 Fes is an annual TV special on NHK, and OOR was the first on the program. "We are" was written for it. (RADWIMPS was 2nd next year with their song "Seikai.") This is the very end of the program. The rest of the program documented the kids talking about their struggles, the selection process of the 1000 kids, and the rehearsals.
A real fun song to check out is "Paper Planes" from their Live “35xxxv” Japan Tour. Taka's crowd interaction is so much fun! Turn on the subtitles, though! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SvWqzhF4gXw.html
you should have watched the whole thing on NHK's channel, it has subs. They selected 1000 18 year olds for this performance based on application videos, and what Taka says is so emotional.
This is one of the most emotional performances I´ve ever seen. I watched it sooooo many times during pandemic and it sureley comforted me a ton. This kids were sooooo comited and professional. They rehearsed a lot. They had soooo much fun and the faces of all the OOR members are priceless.
Thank you for the genuine and lovely reaction. ❤ I heard a clip of this video by chance on social media and immediately fell in love with One ok rock. I get teary every time I watch this. Have a wonderful day!
Yess I was hoping you’d get to this one day, knew you’d love it! ❤ It’s such a beautiful performance, sadly not commonly reacted to on RU-vid. I want to recommend “Pierce” from Yokohama Arena next!
I feel the same way Luke in America we wouldn't be able to have a performance with no railing or bars cause it would be so dangerous here. It is truly amazing to see an environment like that. And what a performance by ONE OK ROCK & the audience! 💖🎶This is truly something special! 😭
18Fes is a collaborative project created by 1000 18 year olds and artists. The song “We Are” was written for 18Fes. The young people present at this event have trained for this performance and are preparing for this day. In a way, this video is the original version of “We Are”.
3:23『これから、色んなことが勿論あるのだけれども、そういった色んなことに対して、自分のリアクションに絶対嘘はつかずに、進んで行って欲しいと思います。そうゆう気持ちを込めて今回の曲を作りました。』 (Of course, many things will happen from now on, but I hope that you will never lie about your reactions to these things and move forward. I wrote this song with those feelings in mind.) 3:36『熱い気持ちが、沸々と心の中に湧いて来ていると思いますけれども、今から僕たちと一緒に演奏して、素晴らしい一曲に創り上げていきたいと思います。準備はいいですか?』 (I think you all have a lot of enthusiasm bubbling up inside of you. I would like you to play with us from now on and create a wonderful song. Are you ready?)
So someone gonna talk about it in more detail cuz I can’t remember exactly but basically all of them were chosen to be there and they spent some time training together to perform that song with the boys
Yeah, NHK's 18FES is a celebration of people who will turn 18 that year, 1000 fans of the guest artist are chosen through a lottery they enter to perform with the artist.
I roughly translated Taka's words at the beginning of this article. Let's see, I know you guys have had a lot of problems before today, and I am sure there will be many more in the future. I am sure that we will have many problems in the future as well. One thing I want to say is that you are no longer children. I believe you are wonderful adults. While there are many adults in this world who are just plain stupid and can't grow as human beings even as they get older, there are many people who have great passion and great thoughts, even if they are underage. My motto is to live with passion, justice, and guilt in my heart. I hope that you guys can live your lives without forgetting those things as well, even if there will be many problems in the future. I wrote this song with these feelings in mind.
I'm so so so happy you finally reacted to this, it's my favourite (and honestly the best) version of "We Are" ! I highly highly recommend you to react to the other 18FES editions featuring Radwimps, Yoasobi, Alexandros, Bump of Chicken, Aimyon,Wanima and this year : Mrs. GREEN apple. All of these songs are absolutely amazing and the chorus add so much !
Oh, why u make me cry, too😢😂 "WE ARE" always hits❤ love this, thank u, Luke❤ PIERCE next pls... ONE OK ROCK the BEST❤ I HOPE TO SEE U REACT AND ATTENDS ONE OF THEIR CONCERTS❤ PREMONITION WORLD TOUR 2024❤ I LOVE YOUR HONEST REACTION...
They also recorded a full english version of this song as well. The song hits even more for me in the english version; obviously being an english speaker. But Taka still keeps the same level of emotion in his english singing.
