Pavarotti performed this role in the opera "Turandot" many times. I'm glad you posted this video from the first "3 Tenors Concert" in Rome, when most of the reaction videos are from the concert in Los Angeles years later. Compare them, there's not much difference. His heavenly voice is golden in both.
What a fantastic reaction to one of the greatest performances ever. I really love the way you go back and cover stuff again. I'm a musician and a music lover and that's the way I listen to music. And sometimes I'll listen to a song like five times in a row and pretend I'm the drummer and then the bass player and then the keyboard player and then the backing vocals and the lead vocals and the guitars etc. Cuz I can pretty much play all those things and so I can at least imagine it but when you're listening to somebody doing great things like this, it's just mind blowing. I'm so glad you do attention to it and even went back and drove the point home. That's really cool.
Love your reaction to this man’s voice, he was a gift from heaven and it would be hard to match his gift. This song became his signature and it brings me to tears and gives me chills every time! The world wept when he passed.
I'm a young opera singer and it's been so hard to keep the faith during COVID because so many of us are out of work, but this video reminded me why I chose to do this. Thank you for sharing this reaction with us and reminding me why I love this music so much.
Mr. Pavarotti, who died in 2007, was considered the greatest tenor of modern time...and perhaps ever. Every time I hear this particular aria (Nessun Dorma) sung by him I become transported to another plateau. Thank you for your wonderful reaction. I could tell you were moved.
At the beginning of the opera, which is set in Peking, China, Calaf, an unknown prince, falls in love at first sight with the beautiful but haughty Princess Turandot. According to royal edict, however, any suitor who wishes to marry her must correctly answer three riddles. Those who fail are killed. Despite protests from his father and his servant, Calaf accepts the challenge and is determined to marry Turandot. Much to the delight of the princess's father, as well as the entire kingdom, Calaf answers all three riddles correctly. But Turandot refuses to marry this stranger. She doesn't even know his name. The prince then makes a deal with her: If she can figure out his name before dawn, he will gladly die. If she cannot, they will marry. Turandot agrees and the countdown begins. Late that night, the princess declares that no one will sleep until she learns the name of her suitor. In fact, she cries out that everyone in the kingdom will be killed if no one steps forward to reveal Calaf's identity. Meanwhile, Calaf confidently sings "Nessun Dorma"-"Nobody shall sleep."
It's actually none shall sleep and the climax is actually at dawn I will win, I will win, I will win. Nessun dorma is otherwise known as the victory aria
The very best tenor to ever have lived and here he is singing the epitome of tenor arias. Flawless, with power and passion as only this man could achieve. His expression at the conclusion shows just how moved he was to share his gift with all who would listen. Bravo & thank you for sharing.
Loved your reaction to the beauty and power of his voice and the music. So glad for you that you were so touched that you had to listen to it again. I've never seen another reaction video person do that!! Bravo to you!
1.5 years old you say. Then old enough to know that he wouldn't hear any greater. He now has something to judge all other vocal music (and so-called music) against.
I appreciate the fact that you do not interrupt the music too much. Sometimes you just want to listen and it gets interrupted at the worst spot, lol! Also, played it again! 👏👏👏 Bravo
You got it..air conducting..the faces..the pava...the Aria is from turandot by Puccini..no One shall sleep..I am a metal fan, but opera is the real deal...
Now you're making me feel guilty for not going with my mother to see him. (My 85 year old mother listens to him while she's on the treadmill, let's just say she's a fan.)
Nay-suhn Doormah, is roughly how you pronounce the name of the song. The translation goes like this: Nobody shall sleep!... Nobody shall sleep! Even you, oh Princess, in your cold room, watch the stars, that tremble with love and with hope. But my secret is hidden within me, my name no one shall know... No!...No!... On your mouth, I will tell it when the light shines. And my kiss will dissolve the silence that makes you mine!... (No one will know his name and we must, alas, die.) Vanish, o night! Set, stars! Set, stars! At dawn, I will win! I will win! I will win!
Great music transports us to another dimension which barely touches the one we now inhabit. Its our spiritual connection to what lies beyond our world. That's why we feel such joy, no matter who we are or what kind of music we normally listen to---hip hop, country, rock or whatever. It touches our soul.
Pavarotti was far too humble, the truth is opera singers train their bodies like athletes and there is so much to it from a technical standpoint. He was very talented but don't underestimate just how incredibly hard he worked
the thing about opera singers is that they do this for 3 to 4 hours, every night of every week. Their stamina is amazing, and it's why most opera singers don't mature properly until they are over 30.
I have suddenly been recommended these videos, of mostly black folk, hearing Big Pav for the first time singing this song. What I love, is how they ALL cry.. this music truly touches the soul of EVERYONE, no matter your background or culture. It should be brought back :)
Nessun Dorma was written by Giacomo Puccini in 1920. There are actually a lot of cartoons especially in the 50s and 60s that played classical music in the background.
Theofficial_Sam I get it everytime I watch him sing it...and I’m an old Skool Reggae roots etc girl. ♥️❤️😍 Try General Levy - Incredible...you will love it. 👍🏽
I have been searching for this video just for his face when he finishes, his expression is priceless. I love it. Does it make your throat ache with wanting to sing with him?
@@theofficial_sam280 Was it really necessary for you to mock me? Did it make you feel superior? Clever? People who are happy with themselves have no need to mock other people.
If you get Met Live in HD at a movie theatre in your area, I highly recommend going to see Turandot if it plays - it's a choral opera, amazing music, costumes and sets - plus English translations. i was surprised how much I enjoyed it.
Greatness cannot be denied whether is rap, rock, country, pop or opera. True Greatness just shines thru no matter what. Jordan, the weekend, Tupac, Aretha Franklin or Tom Brady. At a certain point all u can do is Admire
I am not kidding if I had met Luciano in life I'd be following him like a puppy just waiting for him to read the menu out loud and I would be in heaven
None shall sleep, None shall sleep! Even you, oh Princess, In your cold room, Watch the stars, That tremble with love And with hope. But my secret is hidden within me, My name no one shall know, No... no... On your mouth, I will tell it, When the light shines. And my kiss will dissolve the silence that makes you mine! One rime Pavorotti was scheduled to sing on The grammies bur got sick......Instead Aretha Franklin sang this song..... You should watch that video!!!!!
"Heard it before." If you watched Netflix's Daredevil series, it was used to great effect when against all odds, the bad guys were rounded up. "I shall win!"
There's a reason he was called "the master".... and it's not difficult to understand why. Personally, I prefer the version from Paris (it litterally ALWAYS bring me to tears), but they're all amazing
Italian Text Nessun dorma! Nessun dorma! Dilegua, o notte! Tramontate, stelle! Tramontate, stelle! All'alba vincerò! vincerò, vincerò! English Translation Nobody shall sleep!... Pronounced "LooCHEEahNO" PahVArottee", one of if not the best Tenor in history. Nessun Dorma (No One Sleeps) is the most famous aria from "Turandot" by Puccini. Nessun Dorma is an aria that measures the skill of the best Tenors in the world, especially the climax Vincero (I will win)where the singer must hit and hold the B4...and Pavarotti can hit and hold it effortlessly. If you want to check out another awesome aria, I recommend "Vesti La Guibba" (Put On The Mask) from Pagaliacci- by Leoncavallo...Mario Lanza rendition.
ENGLISH No-one sleeps....no-one sleeps, Even you, O Princess, in your cold room, Watch the stars which tremble with love and hope! But my secret is locked within me, no-one shall know my name! No, no, I shall say it on your mouth when the light breaks! And my kiss will break the silence that makes you mine! (No-one shall know his name, and we, alas, shall die!) Vanish, o night! Set, ye stars! At dawn I shall win!
In opera and classical orchestral music, the singer and the conductor matter. The same aria can be like night and day between different singers/conductors. You happened to hit one of the best tenors of the 20th century AND Zubin Mehta one of the best conductors. Not many can serve opera and orchestra up like those two. Best to stick to the GOATS, while they were young. Joan Sutherland (The Voice of the Century), Maria Callas (La Divina) and Leontyne Price also come to mind.....
You don't have to cut this one off for the copywrite. Do yourself a favor, don't cut the video off before it ends. You should watch his face, read his thoughts, so plainly on his face. Did I do it, was it good? Yes! I nailed it! And then he turns to the audience, you see his love for his audience, you see how much he loves doing what he does. It is bliss.
My parents insisted on us listening to hundreds of operas, one of which contained this segment. I had a box full of original off the wax cuts of music from the 20-70's, from opera to jazz to pop and more. I gave these to 'ghetto' area students, mostly blacks, to cut-and paste into their works, since ALL of them were going to be BLACK MUSIC STARS!! I found a lot of them left on the floors when they left, not even listened to, and was told white music is trash. That's 80% of modern blacks, who are trained by Marxist Feminist teachers.
By the way, excellent reaction. You may have heard this on try outs for America's Got Talent. It's been done on a few of them or Britain's Got Talent. Check out the emotion in Pavorottis face. Its a sobg about a man who wants to marry a princess. He has to answer a riddle or riddles and he will die if he's wrong. His last line is I will be victorious.
The opera is not an easy or fashionable/trendy genre, I would not be able to listen to a whole opera but there are really very exciting "arie". I'm really curious to see your reaction to reading the translated text (Why don't you ever read the translation or explanation of the songs in Italian?) and then the reaction to the first listening Pavarotti singing vesti la giubba and e lucevan le stelle or Callas singing casta diva or un bel di vedremo ! without interruption!
This is from the opera Turandot by Puccini. If you enjoyed this you will also love Ave Maria sung by Pavarotti ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XpYGgtrMTYs.html
