The whole Band On The Run LP is just so much fun! The title track is sooo good. His wife played keyboards in the band so that's a synth your hearing [I believe!] I don't think I'm going too far out on the limb stating that McCartney is a living Legend!
There is an electric piano, plus bass and guitar playing that "bum bum bumbum". Plus there is a baritone saxophone and tenor sax as well. It thickens the power chords.
IIRC, Jet was his dog. This is one of the few rockers from Paul Mc & Wings. Paul liked ballads and kind of weird pieces. "Live and Let Die" is another odd rocker from them. Speaking of which, you should listen to "Uncle Albert / Admiral Halsey." It was a hit, and about as unlikely a hit song as you can imagine.
@@mikekeane2057 McCartney: "We've got a Labrador puppy who is a runt, the runt of a litter. We bought her along a roadside in a little pet shop, out in the country one day. She was a bit of a wild dog, a wild girl who wouldn't stay in. We have a big wall around our house in London, and she wouldn't stay in, she always used to jump the wall. She'd go out on the town for the evening, like Lady and the Tramp. She must have met up with some big black Labrador or something. She came back one day pregnant. She proceeded to walk into the garage and have this litter ... Seven little black puppies, perfect little black Labradors, and she's not black, she's tan. So we worked out it must have been a black Labrador. What we do is if either of the dogs we have has a litter, we try to keep them for the puppy stage, so we get the best bit of them, and then when they get a bit unmanageable we ask people if they want to have a puppy. So Jet was one of the puppies."
This was a great fun song back in the day. It just hit me while watching this that that this was 50 years ago this year. Thanks for making me feel like old dude. Actually, thanks for the memories. Great time too be alive and a 15 year old teen. Fun, care free days and not a worry in the world.
Yes, it's his horse on his farm. He also said "Let me climb on your back and we'll ride to the sky". Paul even said it on some interview. But of course Paul liked to write lyrics so the listener can make the meaning about whatever hits them.
"I thought the only lonely place was on the moon" has EVERETHING u need, it has aliteration on "only lonely place" it has metaphore, it has rythm towards the song, it has melody, it has meaning... hense to me, those lyrics right there are one of the most beautiful, nothing short of miraculous, best lyrics ever
There are a bunch of Beatles solo songs from the 70's y'all have to dive into. All 4 of them. 2 good ones by Wings are from the Wings at the Speed of Sound album - Let 'em In and Silly Love Songs. That's just 2. So many more.
The song is about freedom. According to his daughter, the pony was named for the song, not the other way around. This actually makes more sense. Paul has also said that Jet was a dog, so...
Check out his "Wings Over America" 1976 triple live album...that is one of the finest live albums ever....do a reaction on a song called "Call me back again" phenomenal vocal in an album full of them.....it was a synthesizer and those are all Horns as well....4 different kinds
Saw McCartney's solo concert after his years with his Wings band. As with all his songs, McCartney always sings his live songs very close to his studio recording. Jet was no different. He performed Jet just like his original recording. I was fortunate to see McCartney in concert twice & he hasn't lost a step. I hear his net worth is approx $1.2 billion. McCartney's concerts are approx 3 hrs long, no breaks/wardrobe changes, & he primarily sings one hit after another. His concerts are packed with pure rock & roll history. And he's worth every single dollar watching him live in concert!
Still waiting on you guys to react to the MOTHER'S FINEST song TRUTH'LL SET YOU FREE! Make sure you listen to the regular album version. You're going to absolutely love it!
Mater is an old english word for mother . . . Mum n dad . . Mater and pater. . Ah mother want jet to always love me . .. . That bassy sound is a bass saxaphone . .
All the Beatles were so cool. Paul and Jon crazy creative. What I heard was they broke up because Paul never wanted to take a break and out wrote them in numbers of songs. Paul was driven. By the time Wings happened I'm sure he had a reservoir of songs that were meant for the Beatles and became Wings songs lol.
the incredible journey reactors are takng rediscovering the Beatles and Post Beatles...Band on the Run was probably McCartney [and Wings] one of his top 2 albums...the other was Tug of War, which came in the early 1980's after Lennon died. Remember the Beatles were 4 strong. contributing together as a unit. When they parted ways, the pressure was immense on all of them to present an album and hits of equal calibur and that was DAMN hard to do, in an environment of higher immense creativity and quality that they themselves had helped to create [basic leading the way until others caught up to them]. McCartney had trial and error up to about this point when 2 Wings band members left the band at the last minute before recording this album. So basically Paul did most of the instruments, uncluding drums...yes, drums!! Denny Laine, guitar and vocals, helped out, and wife Linda McCarntey playing some keyobard work and doint backing vocals...with a couple of African musician asked to play on a few numbers. Paul bescially said screw those guys who left I;ll do the whole farkin albyum myself with Linda and Denny, and he worlked his butt off and came up with this now iconic album. Even John Lennon liked the album and said so.
Ok, here’s my theory. Jet is Linda. He’s thinking about how her parents reacted when told Linda and Paul were getting married. Mater is Linda’s mother. The Major is her father. Paul thought he was a “ lady suffragette”, that he supported women’s freedom. Paul is telling them that he loves Linda and Linda loves him. “ What she say, what she say?”, what did your mother say to you? Let’s get out of here and go for a ride. I thought YOU were a lady suffragette but youre worried about what your parents think?
I had to click this. Jet is cool. No idea what it's about. But that part you're humming, BJ. I think there's some (French) horn maybe tuba or other Low horns then there's also the high horns and synthesizer and everything. And there's a guitar hitting Muted strokes, like what a mandolin does, also what reggae guitars do. In that slow part that goes And Jet...the guit goes click click or whatever
As I was getting older in my teen years in the 70’s, this song sounded like the protagonist was trying to seduce a young lady, in the back of a plane. But the protagonist made the mistake, and it turned out to be a man. He said “I thought you were a lady” .
Always love to hear any songs performed by a former Beatle. This was a very popular song back then for Paul - always on the radio. Love how it changes throughout.🎶 Thanks for reacting to this one guys!🧡
McCartney wrote the lyrics when he was really REALLY high! Don't get to tangled up in a literal interpretation because there is no sober reaction 🤣....Just enjoy the wonderous candy for your ears and don't try to figure out a meaning!! ✌😘
@@thedogwoods5716 - "Jet" was the name of a jet black pony Paul and Linda owned, which is even more evidence that, injecting the name of his black pony into the lyrics of this catchy little tune, Mr. McCartney was "three sheets to the wind" when he penned the words 🥴..
Beetles 🪲🐞 But I agree. I prefer Lennon because I'm into protest and free speech. But Paul kicked so much ass in the studio and in concert. But I do think he should retire lol. Sorry- you did not ask for all that lol
I've always preferred Paul's Wings music. I was never a big Beatles fan. Nor was I a John Lennon fan. I do like some of George Harrison's songs though...
My sister still talks about seeing them on this tour. She saw all the best act's from those days. She had a big fish bowl full of ticket stubs and all the t-shirts. Being eight years younger than her, I was always so envious of her. Her story about the Led Zepplin show is hilarious. Good reaction, guy's.
@@Fritzw75 Well she went to Dallas with a bunch of friends to see them. After they had dinner and got to the venue, somebody broke out some acid. Long story short, she remembers going to Dallas but not the show. I have laughed at that story for years. At least she learned a valuable lesson.
@@shannonbennett987 wow too funny. I really only smoked pot before, and at the concerts and remember somethings but not very much. LOL,,,, What area did you grow up in? Bay Area, East Bay across from San Fran here. What year did you graduate high school?
@@Fritzw75 That's all I ever did because I'd heard too many stories like my sisters from older people I hung out with. I wanted to be all there for the show. Though I never did anything more than pot anyway having had the opportunity to observe alot of those same people doing harder drugs. It wasn't pretty. I'm Texas born but spent several years of my early youth in Vallejo Ca. That was early 70's. Been home since then and staying. If I hadn't found out I could legally get out of school at 15 with my mothers consent and a job, I was supposed to graduate in 84. I got my GED in 88. But I had a full time job and my own apt by the time I was 17 and bought my first car at 21. So, it worked out in the end.
Wings was the second best band that Paul McCartney was a member. They were a great band and their catalog of music is amazing and worth reacting and listening too. His wife Linda was a member of the band and played Keyboards and sang background vocals…
Maybe it was because I grew up in the 70s and not the 60s or maybe it's because with Wings he was the definitive leader and frontman and didn't have to balance the egos of Lennon and Harrison with his own but I've always liked Wings more than the Beatles.
I just loved this album.. masterpiece that Lennon even loved. Too many good songs..Band on the Run ,Jet , Bluebird ,Mrs Van Der Bilt,1985,Drink to me,,Let me Roll it, Junior's farm
Wings was a phenomenal stadium act by 1976! On that particular tour, Wings over America, they only played four Beatles songs! The rest was Wings material plus denny laine singing go now from his time with the Moody Blues! Just shows how popular Wings were back in the 70's.
5 tracks: Blackbird, I've just seen a face, Lady Madonna, The long and windingg road, Yesterday. But okay, the other Beatles actually had nothing to do with "Blackbird" and "Yesterday".
Great pick guys - that instrument is a Moog synthesizer, McCartney used it quite a bit and it's actually his wife (Linda) playing it. The song is about Freedom, that's why he mentions suffragettes, and "Jet" was the name of a black stallion which Paul and Linda owned, as they had many animals and horse back riding was one of their favorite things to do together. Staying with the Freedom context, he says "get on my back and while go for a ride in the sun", meaning his stallion Jet, speaking to the suffragette, bringing her to freedom. Next McCartney song, must do, 1985. Trust me...you'll love it!
The first time i heard 1985 i loved the song. However i didn't play it as much as the others since it was the last song on the Vinyl if i remember correctly ..it wasnt a single and the radios never played it so it was "less important" than the others! Nowadays its my fave song off tnr album.
Wife here..Hey Guys..., I was around 3 when this song came out..I would jump up and down on my Mom and Dad's sofa...The energy was off the Hook to me even at that age!!!..Alot of different and Spacey and Airy sounds...Perfectly 👍 agreed and Perfectly stated ...Thank You!!!
The theremin (/ˈθɛrəmɪn/; originally known as the ætherphone/etherphone, thereminophone[2] or termenvox/thereminvox) is an electronic musical instrument controlled without physical contact by the performer (who is known as a thereminist). It is named after its inventor, Leon Theremin, who patented the device in 1928. The instrument's controlling section usually consists of two metal antennas which function not as radio antennas but rather as position sensors. Each antennae forms one half of a capacitor with each of the thereminist's hands as the other half of the capacitor. These antennas capacitively sense the relative position of the hands and control oscillators for frequency with one hand, and amplitude (volume) with the other. The electric signals from the theremin are amplified and sent to a loudspeaker. The sound of the instrument is often associated with eerie situations. The theremin has been used in movie soundtracks such as Miklós Rózsa's Spellbound and The Lost Weekend, Bernard Herrmann's The Day the Earth Stood Still, and Justin Hurwitz's First Man as well as in theme songs for television shows such as the ITV drama Midsomer Murders and the Disney+ series Loki, the latter composed by Natalie Holt. The theremin is also used in concert music (especially avant-garde and 20th- and 21st-century new music) and in popular music genres such as rock.
Bands like the Beatles and Wings had small orchestras with them in the studio (strings and brass). There is a Moog on this album but synthesizer technology wasn't really advanced enough yet to successfully sound like a real orchestra yet when they recorded this (1973).
