Just enjoy both groups. They both (Home free and Pentatonix) have so much great music. We can love them both!!! And we are the winners cause we got them both!!! Love you. Peace and blessings to you and yours.
This video won Pentatonix the 1st of their 3 Grammy Awards. Their 2nd Grammy was for "Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy" and their 3rd was for a collaboration they did with the great Dolly Parton on her hit song "Jolene". I don't think you have to choose between Pentatonix and Home Free, just enjoy them both. I think you'll that most fans are fans of both groups. By the way their is a 3rd acapella group that has a tremendous following of fans and they are called Voice Play. All 3 of these groups competed on the singing competition show "The Sing Off". Pentatonix won season 3 of "The Sing Off". Both Home Free and Voice Play were on season 4 of "The Sing Off" and competed against each other with Home Free winning season 4. You can watch all performances from the show here on You Tube.
Home Free fans (Home Fries) and Pentatonix fans (Pentaholics) are called Pentafries because they recognized both group's talent. To cover the trifecta of A Cappella groups you should also check out Voiceplay.
Their beatboxer, Kevin Olusola, has a solo looping cover of the song "Down" on his RU-vid channel that is fascinating, fun, and FIRE!!! I honestly feel like he might be his generation's Jimmi Hendrix!
I have to agree with you!! Kevin is a very special guy, concert cellist, kinda new daddy, BEATBOXER and just a really good man. He has so much ahead and he will definitely go far!! Congratulations Kevin and Wifey!! Nothing like a new baby!!
Pentatonics is beyond incredible. Hallelujah and Mary did you know as well as The sound of silence, and Bohemian Rhapsody are a MUST! Keep up the great work, Van. God bless you and your family! Also, “Get Lucky” was Pharrell and Daft Punk.
All a cappella is fantastic, but this is the song that really, truly redefines it. It sounds so synthesized electronica, which is the most amazing, creative thing to do with nothing more than vocal talent. Let's appreciate their visuals too, in all their videos - They're artists in a lot of ways.
This is a song to just be a song. It's fun, it has no message, it was just a creative piece they didn't even write the parts to, they just took something they liked and made it their own. No agenda, just fun
So I've heard the Acapella groups described as this.. Pentatonix is the student council, voice play is the theater/drama club, and home free is throwing a kegger in the school parking lot
I’m sure many of told you but if not they each filmed this in a closet individually and then edited on one of their own computers. They did on a budget of like a 100-300 bucks or something and won a Grammy for it!
Both groups are talented. Just different types of music. You can enjoy all types of music. I'm more of a Home Free fan myself. But I can appreciate and enjoy PTX and what they do for music and their fans.
I agree.....i prefer Home Free, however i love PTX and Voiceplay as well !!......how could i not ??.....i could listen to this song and "The Prayer" every day cuz they're so damn good !!
Just enjoy them. It’s like comparing apples, oranges and bananas. Pentatonix leans towards pop/ techno, Homefree leans country but they sing all genres, VoicePlay is the third group in this Trifecta. They are the theater kids. There is no better since they are all different in their own way. It’s great that their all friends too
With all due respect. How are they a trifecta? If you put pentatonix in the same basket as home free and voiceplay then you might as well include every Acapella group. HF and VP are in no way close to PTX. And i'm not talking quality. Everybody Can have their taste And even like the much less known groups better. But in terms of popularity. These PTX guys are many Times bigger than VP and HF combined. I don't see a trifecta. It's PTX, then under it there's a duo of HF and VP. Because that's the truth. These guys have had absolutely no competition in the Acapella World since they were created. HF and VP are amazing quality wise but they are not a trifecta with by far the biggest Acapella group of all time
Thank you for reacting to this Pentatonix medley of 7 songs from the band Daft Punk. They won their first (of 3) Grammy for the arrangement of this medley. There is no need to compare or pick a favorite A cappella band, just enjoy them. That way you won't piss off any fan base. Many will inform you of VoicePlay and Voctave. They are also A cappella. The great thing is that all 4 bands/groups are very different in the type of music they focus on performing. Enjoy!!!
I have a trifecta of acapella: Pentatonix are the dance/Contemporary style (aka the cool kids), Home Free are the boys next door/country side, and Voice Play are the theatre kids (think broadway/Disney costumes and sets. All three got noticed from The Sing Off. The basses of these groups do arrangements and appearances in each others videos. So much talent., and in such different styles. Enjoy the rabbit hole that includes all three. Hugs from Newfoundland
Technologic. One More Time. Get Lucky. Digital Love. Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger. Television Rules the Nation. Around the World. Each of them a great Daft Punk song on its own. Some more so than others. In this medley, each playing an important role. A great introduction to a fantastic group. I'd love to see you react to the original ones now that you've heard the Pentatonix version.
Pentatonix have some incredible range as far as what songs they can do. They did an entire “Wizard of OZ” musical that was really good. Also really impressive, this was three Daft Punk songs mixed together.
Daft Punk is a European punk-edm duo that over the years had several big hits in the club/edm scene. A few, including Lucky, even broke into the mainstream pop scene & were popular on the radio here in the U.S. & other countries. PTX honored them by doing this medley of their most popular hits. They did such a great arrangement it got them their 1st Grammy.
Both groups are awesome, and both won The Sing Off a year apart. They make everything sound better. Try Pentatonix doing Can't Hold Us, good rapping there.
They won 1 season apart but were on about 2 years apart. NBC had stopped the Sing-Off after the 3 season but PTX had great success and recognition in 2013 and encouraged NBC to do another season of the Sing-Off. That reboot of the show gave Home Free their chance. I think Home Free said they had been playing small venues for about a decade prior to that.
I have always been a Queen follower and I am totally blown away how well PTX does Queen!! THE ONLY TIME I DIDN'T SEE RED AND WANT TO THROW SOMETHING OUT THE WINDOW!!! They don't disappoint
Check out their cover of John Lenin’s “Imagine” and cover of Sound of Silence. If you’re in a Christmas mood Mary did you know, Come All Ye Faithful Faithful or any of their many Christmas songs. If you are familiar with Queens Bohemian Rhapsody their cover of that will blow your mind.
The bass, Avi Kaplan, has gone solo. You got to check out his official video of the the song “Change on the Rise”. It’s got a great bluegrass feel and the cinematography is good too.
I listened to home fries once and they were good...to be honest that's when Avi Kaplan blessed them with his presence! When I hear the word acapella...I'm thinking Pentatonix!
Daft Punk was a 90's electronic (I think the term is technopop) music group who's stage look was meant to be futuristic/cybernetic. So I would guess PTX was paying tribute to that in this medley of their songs.
GREAT REACTION!!! The REALLY GREAT thing about the world of A Cappella is that while there are several top tier groups out there, each one has its own unique sound, and you DON'T have to decide which one is your favorite. Just like parent does not have a favorite child, but can see the beauty and unique personality of each. So can we see and appreciate the talent and unique personality of each of the best A Cappella groups! Skill-wise Pentatonix, Home Free, VoicePlay, and Voctave are all up at the top. (And yes, you DO NEED to check out VoicePlay and Voctave!) The fun thing is that sometimes they collaborate/feature members of each other's groups. And, sometimes, there are songs that all of them have done at one time or another. Yes, my son, there are MANY rabbit holes and all of them are deep! Have fun exploring! I enjoy watching your reaction videos and look forward to seeing more!
Kirstin - isn't she cute, isn't she sugary sweet - no, she can sing fantastic too, man! All group members are world-class singers, but Kirstin is sooo cute, especially when she pulls up her snout... To fall in love with shock...
Daft Punk is the ultimate electronic group and Pentatonix is the ultimate A Capella (all voice) group! Daft Punk made an anime style music video called Interstella 5555, which is a must see. They sampled a lot of classic Funk songs in their era
Pentatonix pave the way for the new kind of acapella. Bringing it into the everyday stream of music. I don't listen to much of home free because I'm not into country style music. But they do have some wonderful stuff. Enjoy acapella at its best.
Definitely go back and listen to the original Daft Punk tracks these are based on; it will only increase your appreciation of this performance. Start with "One More Time" and "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger."
I never get tired of this video - it's literally the best thing I've ever seen, the people in this group just drip talent - and they work they ass off. FIRE. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Great reaction Van! I’m so glad your reacting to PTX now! I hope the journey continues. Their Evolution Of Videos are outstanding…Michael Jackson, Rihanna, Ariana Grande, Beyoncé are all phenomenal!
Love your genuine reactions! Not “the baritone” at 7 minutes in though - that was Bass Avi, who also has amazing tone in the higher end of his range. Welcome to the Pentatonix rabbit hole!
Hey! I just listened to your son's channel. He is so smart and cool. Now you tell me he has written a book. Fabulous! Told him in the comments that he could be anything. I've worked with kids all my life. He definitely has what it takes. All the best to you and your family.
I'm a bona fide "pentaholic" (what pentatonix fans are known as) AND a full card-carrying "home fry" (what Home free fans are known as) and there is no problem with being both. Even Avi Kaplan (original bass in PTX) did "ring of fire" the Johnny Cash cover, with Home free ( you should check that out BTW) PTX have AMAZING song, original, covers and mashups (they are fantastic at mashups) you should check out their cover of "Gold" by kiara (sp) and their mashup of "new rules x are you that somebody" ( that shows what their newer bass Matt Salee can do) and their evolution of music, evolution of Ariana Grande and evolution of Beyonce AND evolution of Rhianna are NOT TO BE MISSED !
You will find they have a broad range of styles of music that they do. Also, a heads up. There has only been one line up change. The bass in this, Avi, left a few years ago and his replacement is Matt. Mitch, high voice, and Kirstie, girl, often change their look so much that people who aren't familiar with them don't recognize them. I hope you have great fun discovering what they can do. For a variety of styles, might I suggest, "Can't Hold Us", "Amazing Grace", Come Along" , "Favorite Things" and "90's Dance Medley".....just to get you started. Have fun!!
NOW, ya got that new-age techno vibe rockin', Mr. Van! Pentatonix is 1 of the best at it, because of the versatility of their voices. They play off each other to perfection! For more of that techno groove, you may want to react to:. "Winter Wonderland", by The Eurythmics, for a Christmas flavor; "Don't Come Around Here No More", by Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers", produced by The Eurythmics' producer, David Stewart; & "Der Kommissar", by Falco, 1 of the more intriguing songs ever. Look at Mr. Van, goin' all 21st century! Thanks for the fun ride!
Pentatonix does Christmas! Think of a Christmas song you have grown tired of or never liked much and see if they covered it. It will become one of your favorites after that.
Not sure if anyone mentioned this yet, but all of the "vocal breaks" (the parts that sounds like mechanical skips) are literally them singing it. There was no edit to do that. There was a live performance where it showed them doing it.
funny you should mention another acapella group, because there is another one putting out music at a comparable level. there is no real competition. of course everyone has their favorite, but we can all enjoy all of their music. even when they cover the same song they have different arrangements so it's still all love. i don't think you will regret getting to know all of them and how they differ to make themselves unique. have fun going down the rabbit hole.
