Pink Floyd didn't write songs..they wrote albums, each one is a journey. You have to start at the beginning and listen till the end.
@barefootbooks69
@barefootbooks69 Год назад
No you don't. Echoes isn't any less of a great song just because you didn't listen to Seamus first. Same goes for WYWH, CN, Sheep, Money etc etc etc. You can start anywhere you like.
@juicebox268

@@barefootbooks69 yeah but they wrote it with the intent to experience it from start to beginning
@barefootbooks69
@barefootbooks69 Год назад
@@juicebox268 Only DSOTM, WYWH, and TW were written as albums. More and OBC were soundtracks, so the songs were in movie order. TFC is just a collection of leftovers in no particular order. Animals had old songs retitled to fit a theme. Meddle and everything previous are just mixed songs. Your blanket 'have to start at beginning' assertion is incorrect.

Gentlemen if you are going to delve deep into rock, it would be helpful to you to know the eras and genres, there is great historical significance in understanding where each band fits in the tree, Pink Floyd is an amazing band that was earlier in the timeline compared to you, they would be more in the classic rock genre of the 70s, of which rock evolves as time goes on, you get into punk/thrash/metal at the end of the 70s, beginning of the 80s when Metallica comes along. There are hundreds of iconic bands and THOUSANDS of songs out there, so pick a group, google a little info on them so you know where they came from, who they were influenced by, it will all eventually all fit together for you, enhancing your journey through history.

The rock category you are looking for is Prog Rock. Pink Floyd is unique, not easy to pigeonhole. But the big mistake many people make is just listening to one song from a band that does concept albums (a collection of musical pieces combined to create one musical composition). Pink Floyd will always come off as 'too slow' if all you listen to is dance music for clubs.

This is a rocker grandma speaking. I remember when this album came out. The way to really understand their music is to sit down alone, put on headphones, and just listen to the entire album in one go. NO TALKING, NO PAUSING. This is what used to be called a “concept album”. Listening to one track by itself does not do it. Try it. Same thing with Wish You Were Here. Both GREAT albums that tell a story in consecutive tracks.

The four of you have stumbled onto music that many people consider to be the best of all time, for reasons that become obvious as you interact with more of the music. For YT reaction videos, you will get a huge return on views if you react to the live version of this song or pretty much anything from the 1994 Pulse live tour. IMPORTANT: You will NOT need to pause Pink Floyd on RU-vid, there is no penalty or removal of videos for doing it with their music, so when you are in the middle of a Gilmour guitar solo you won't get in trouble if you don't pause it. The studio albums are amazing, but there's never been a better live band in history, period. There are hundreds of reaction videos to the live version of Comfortably Numb on the Pulse 1994 tour because he goes on a much longer solo at the end of the song and the stadium show that goes with it is mindblowing, and literally everyone who reacts to the video is amazed at what they're seeing. (That's why reaction videos get so many views, and because people like me who attended these shows know they experienced the greatest musical experiences of their lifetimes and they come here to watch other people who've never heard of it react to it for the first time, so they can re-experience what it was like when they first heard the music.) Everyone else will tell you which other Pink Floyd to react to, but start with the Pulse concert and make sure not to pause the guitar solos. Also one tip, people will recommend Great Gig in the Sky but for that one, find the studio version. It's one of those first take miracles.

"Money" is about as fast as Floyd gets. Pink Floyd does some crazy long intros to their songs, but the wait is worth it. And, in the right mood, the intros are fascinating. "Dark Side of the Moon" is meant to be heard from start to finish, but if you're in a hurry for the big pay-off, skip to "Great Gig in the Sky" for the most amazing female vocalist solo you have ever heard.

Totally agree. Richard Wright heard a British soldier being interviewed & asked if he was scared on the battlefield, he replied "I'm not afraid of dying, anytime will do...." That's how it became the intro to the song. It's a masterpiece.

I would think the fastest, at least hardest, would have to be 'Run like Hell', other than that agree 100%

I would argue "One of These Days" esp. off of Pulse, would also be fast and hard.

Listening to this song without the rest of the album is like eating the middle of a jelly donut and throwing out the rest. You have to hear the whole thing to understand it. I love watching your reaction videos, thanks for the entertainment.

To make it clear, this is 4 guys jamming out, the singer (for this one) is Roger Waters (on the "slow"/low engergy part) and David Gilmour (on the float away part). The Drummer is Nick Mason, and the keyboardist is Richard Wright, at this point Syd had to be kicked out of the band due to substance abuse. He died later. Loved seeing you get into the music I grew up in (Im Gen Z).

Check out their song "Sheep" from the album "Animals". It's a concept album loosely based on George Orwell's novel "Animal Farm". You want something from Pink Floyd with a little more bite, listen to Sheep.

Pink Floyd would best be categorized as _Psychedelic Rock,_ for the most part. They're really a lot of things. They are sort of in their own music genre.

In my 70s and still listening to their albums. It is emotive as was a lot of music in the 60s and 70s. A good smoke helps it work .

'Old' school, like me. The music we listened to then defines who we are today. Also in my 70's (just arrived), but love EDM as well. The majority of our generation got stuck somewhere in the early 60's

Guys, just so you know, that song you just listened ( Comfortably Numb) is a shared vocal by bassist Roger Waters, who sang the first part, and guitarist David Gilmour, who sang the verse as well as did those bad ass solos. It looks like you enjoyed it...glad you did!! 🙂

I do not know if the band members were doing psychedelics when they made these songs, but I know that listening to them on psychedelics is a unique experience. I did that in the 70's.

I like to believe they did. I couldnt imagine if they didn’t have psychedelic influence and came up with the songs that they did. Like the Beatles too definitely had that influence and you can see a shift in both bands music to more spiritual, thoughtful, and artistic than they were in their earlier years

They only did psychedelics during their early work, before Meddle. And they really didn't do it that much, it was Syd Barret who was always doing LSD. And he wasn't long in the band after that because he was suffering from schizophrenia which is also an awful combination with psychedelics. So they weren't really doing drugs when making these albums.
@camblas6380

Pink floyd were not very open about their drug use, they admitted to having tried lsd a couple of times, but only in the early days. And not many know that david gilmour was a raging coke head who smoked pot with teenagers at one point, i believe in the 80s. They were scared of psychedelics though because they believe lsd played a huge role in syd's mental breakdown. However syd had a very psychedelic style in the early days, which made pink floyd popular amung hippies and trippers. They even played in night clubs full of people tripping on acid in the mid 1960s, before they got famous and made pop hits. They carried on syds psychedelic style throughout the decades.
