It's criminal that I have never hear Prof before this collab with Ren. And just like Ren his style is crazy. It's all over the place AND you'll always know it's him because his voice and his style is so different. Yo! Appreciate the vid! For me, the only thing I didn't like about this collab was it was too short! Their voices matched really well and I thought they could have got another verse or chorus in, but, hey, I'm happy with it, it's a banger, and on my playlist. Definitely up for the 'loopy guitar riff' thing!
From what I understand Prof hasn’t had the best upbringing, some of/or his pain comes from this, I think REN let us know waaay back that if we didn’t know of Prof we should, he obviously respects Prof’s talents - rapping, singing, producing not unlike Ren who also sings and also produces. These two together are amazing. The voices just meld together so well. Prof is amazing. So is Ren. If you want to check out more Prof, 'heaven' is an awesome heartfelt song, he does have quite a few of those but hes a big cut up on alot if his songs, and im hete for it

He's got such an unusual style, and he DOES NOT look like his voice. Try checking out Feed the Dogs for a fairly recent track, but he's got a quality back catalogue also... Yo! I really didn't know what they would sound like together but I love it. The weird serendipity that follows Ren songs (like the crossing in the Nas retake, or the limo in Troubles) seems to have jumped on the timing with this one and world events. Two syllables: crazy! Prof's stuff can be quite bizzare and fun, but also has a lot of pathos in too. Hope they collab again.

Check out his "live from the gallery" playlist (my personal fave is HIgh Priced Shoes). He stands in front of one of his paintings and just does it live. I didn’t like the transition much at first…seemed like Ren was mixed in a little low compared to Prof. But I got used to it and have listened to it many times. Hope you’re well.

Yo! Haven't been around much, I get busy with growing food in the not-winter, lol! I checked out Prof a couple of weeks before this song dropped and yeah, I'm a fan! Have watched all of his RU-vid content from the last couple of albums now, and lots of it made a seriously big impression & has generated serious song-loops in my brain. I guess when I click away from this reaction I'll find out if you've done any more Prof since, but if not, I hope you will! He's done a whole bunch of live versions from songs from these last 2 albums and when I tell you that they are ART... The official music videos & recorded audio versions are nothing to sneeze at either (his official music videos are next level), but there's something really special about the live versions, especially the most recent album's "Live from The Gallery" series where his own art is hanging behind him as he performs. Anyway. Astoundingly, when Pain Salesman was released, I found that Prof was the star here, for me. I realize that "feature" generally means that the other artist only has one verse, but I was expecting Ren to blow me away and instead I found myself not liking his part much. That's down to the rap "voice" he chose to use here (which is the one I rarely enjoy when he features it heavily in his own work), and also the lyrics - I understand they're not talking about actually killing anyone/whatever, but when songs lean hard into this particular metaphor I usually tune out, and it's multiple verses here. As always, despite me being lukewarm on Ren's performance/my disinterest in the "subject," I recognize the excellence in lyric-writing anyway. And the beat is CATCHY AF so it goes on and on (lol) in my brain whether I'm cold on some of the lyrics or not. And the singing additions, harmonies included, make this one so unique (I'm sure it's not unique in the history of music but ykwim). It just stands out. Love the vibe, musically. If Ren used his rap "voice" from Halftime and The Hunger vs the one from stuff like Love Music 4, which I basically don't listen to or even watch reactions for... or if there was less talking about killing someone ... I think these two would make some incredible art together. So in the end, what I hope is that Pain Salesman turns out to be a warm-up collab for them. I haven't chased down alllllll the reactions to this one so I guess I wouldn't know that no one else has done it, but you're the only one I've seen acknowledge the release of this one being just before the assassination attempt on Trump. This song was my first thought when that happened (because of course it was playing on loop in my brain). I wondered whether there'd be fallout in reaction videos & their comment sections. Instead, people seemed to decide to ignore it here? I find that collective subconscious decision REALLY weird. Haven't gone back and read through what comments have piled up under reactions since then, I guess, but. I'm not looking for controversy or anything; I just imagined there'd be people tone-policing the lyrics. Just because I don't like them doesn't mean I think Prof & Ren should be chastized for writing them (ie, people thinking it glorifies or normalizes violence as the solution to political conflict).

@@michaelgoyettemusic idk... like I say, it's not as though I've chased down all the reactions to the song, so what would I actually know, but my sense is that not as many people reacted to it and the song/its reaction content didn't get as many views as Ren's stuff normally does. I could be very wrong. But. Who knows, perhaps your observation had something to do with it. Algorithms and the management/whatever of social media platforms seem to be getting seriously weird, sigh.
Really appreciated how you correctly acknowledged that this is Prof’s song and then paid so much attention to his excellent bars. I love Ren but sometimes the excessive attention is off putting. Yo!
