Brian May the guitarist said in an interview that Michael Jackson’s album thriller was inspired a lot by Queens music, and MJ was friends with Freddie. John Deacon the bassist wrote this song and he was in to a lot of disco and funk music, all the four band members wrote the music that’s why you have such a range in songs and genres. They also said in interviews when this song came out people thought that it was a black artist that sang the song and didn’t know about queen. They are truly amazing, my favourite band since I was little😍

@@rugr82day True. MJ thought the song was the shit, and the band was like, "Naw...really?" But they trusted his instincts, and it certainly paid off for them in the end. Too bad that "State Of Shock" didn't end up working out for them.

Yup Queen is iconic to the point where even if their music is 40-50 years old, even if people don't know them, they left a lasting impact on culture. Even songs like "we will rock you" there's probably not a single American who wouldn't know that chorus. That's what I call lasting impact

Hahahaha, of course you'd know this song! I love that y'all thought it was a black artist. Especially when it was written by the quietest member of the group, John Deacon the bassist who once said he never saw himself writing "a hard song". This is the best selling Queen single and it all happened because Michael Jackson heard it and told them they had to release it as a single. This song has quite the history! They always insisted the reason they lasted so long and had so many hits was because the four of them were such different individuals. All four members wrote a number 1 hit, that's almost unheard of.

Another One Bites The Dust is a song written by the bassist, John Deacon, and it's from the album The Game from 1980. It is currently the most successful single Queen has ever had in USA, selling over 3 million copies. This song was close to not even make it on the album, which seems crazy looking at it now. The fact that it became a single is due largely to Michael Jackson, who was attending their US concerts a lot at the time and was good friends with the band and especially Freddie. It was Michael who suggested they should release this as a single upon hearing it, guaranteeing an instant hit, which we all know now it was. Also, when the song hit the US radios, a lot of those radios were picking the song up, thinking Queen was a black band, largely due to the funkiness edge that this song has and the song got heard by a large black audience who as well thought they were a black band. This is one of the many reasons, why Queen are the best and most versatile rock group in history. They've scored worldwide hits with opera/rock songs, love songs, ballads, hard rock anthems, funk anthems, etc. Thanks guys, for reacting to my favorite band!

and John Deacon was inspired by the funk band Chic. He was visiting with them in the studio, and picked up Jerry Barnes’ bass line for Good Times. With permission, he used the few opening beats in his own riff. The rhythm guitar also draws from Nile Rodger’s signature style. There are a few RU-vid videos presenting the 2 songs mixed together, and it’s remarkable.

John Deacon's bass line was inspired by "Good Times" by the disco group Chic. In an interview with NME, Chic co-founder Bernard Edwards stated, "That Queen record came about because that Queen bass player... spent some time hanging out with us at our studio." Recording sessions - produced by Reinhold Mack at Musicland Studios in Munich (West Germany) - consisted of Deacon playing almost all instruments: bass guitar, piano, electric guitar, and hand claps. Roger Taylor added a drum loop and Brian May contributed noises with his guitar and an Eventide Harmonizer. There are no synthesizers in the song: all effects are created by piano, electric guitars and drums, with subsequent tape playback performed in reverse at various speeds. Finally, sound effects were run through the harmonizer for further processing. The effect of the harmonizer can be heard clearly in the "swirling" nature of the sound immediately before the first lyric. In early live performances, Taylor sang lead on the chorus, as opposed to the studio version sung entirely by Mercury. As the song became more well-known, the band could rely on audiences to sing the chorus by themselves. If you want to be blown away, watch Live Aid 1985. You'll see why this performance has been voted the best live rock performance ever. Watch how Freddie mesmerizes the audience and holds them in the palm of his hand, it's magical. Live Aid: Live Aid was a dual-venue benefit concert held on Saturday 13 July 1985, and an ongoing music-based fundraising initiative. The original event was organized by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure to raise funds for relief of the ongoing Ethiopian famine. Billed as the "global jukebox", the event was held simultaneously at Wembley Stadium in London, England, United Kingdom (attended by 72,000 people) and John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States (attended by about 100,000 people). On the same day, concerts inspired by the initiative happened in other countries, such as the Soviet Union, Canada, Japan, Yugoslavia, Austria, Australia and West Germany. It was one of the largest-scale satellite link-ups and television broadcasts of all time; an estimated global audience of 1.9 billion, across 150 nations, watched the live broadcast. If accurate, this would be nearly 40% of the world population at the time. Unbelievable, just imagine 1.9 billion people watching this performance around the world. Queen, stole the show and there were approximately 75 other acts performing during the program. Can you imagine all of this? If you guys want to watch it it's cool. But just to warn you guys, don't go watch the movie with the mentality of a biography or that most things in the movie actually happened in real life. They changed a lot on what happens to the movie, to what actually happened (especially with Freddy Mercury). Plus people have comented that this movie is the Rock equivalent to "All Eyes on Me" in terms of portraying the character wrong and not being faithful on who they really were. Either way tho, love the videos and I appreciate the hustle.

@@albalopez6542, I've heard that, as well. So yeah, just no one go into it thinking that it's a totally non-fiction reenactment. That said, I hear that Rami Malek absolutely _kills_ it, as Freddie Mercury, that his performance outshines the plot. He worked with a movement coach and everything, to get Freddie's mannerisms and performance style down.

The bass player John Deacon wrote this and it was put on the album. Michael Jackson was at their concert and told them they needed to make this a single. They did and it hit number 1 in the US for like 9 weeks.

just some facts, John Deacon ( the bassist) who created this catchy groovy beat , spent quite lot of time with Chic band, because he really likes Good Times from chic. Funny thing also they initially didnt want to release it into single , until Michale Jackson told them it was a great track. :)

The Haitian Prince: Go see Bohemian Rhapsody!! How the songs were developed is explained. Brian and Roger had influence on the screenplay, up to the point of fighting to keep a certain scene in the movie. I won't say which one...so no Spoiler. It took 8 years to bring it to the movies after 20th Century Fox green lit the deal, because Sacha Baron Cohen dropped out in 2013. Cohen wanted the movie to focus on only Freddie, and to dramatize his lifestyle; whereas, Brian and Roger wanted the movie to focus on the band as a unit. This is why it's called Bohemian Rhapsody and not Mercury. As the saying goes, Good things come to those who wait!

Queen did the amazing theme music for the Highlander movies & TV series. Check out "Princes of the Universe" & "Who Wants to Live Forever". Also, to experience the full range of Freddy's music, check out his duet with opera diva, Montserrat Caballe (they adored each other) "Barcelona!".

freddie lived in new york i guess from '79-'80 till '82-ish, hardcore partying so that scene influenced his image and queen's music at that time

Funny enough I think it was Micheal Jackson ( who was friends with Freddie Mercury ) who convinced Freddie to use this song cause he had a feeling it would be a smash hit and he was right.

True story about this song: It's a funny thing you mention Michael Jackson because the inspiration for the thriller album came from music Michael Jackson heard from queen. Michael Jackson, you see, was a Queen fan, having a tendency of seeing the band live whenever they were in the Los Angeles area until one night he was invited backstage to see the band and became fast friends with frontman Freddie Mercury. Michael Jackson was invited by queen to the studio and queen let him hear a lot of stuff they made. Michael Jackson love everything he heard but it wasn't until he got a taste of the song "another one bites the dust" that he really let up. Michael raved about the song and against every other member of the bands wishes actually convinced Freddy to release it. Queen left America with their first and only number one hit in the states and Michael Jackson left that studio night in which direction his then next album was to go in. A little ditty you may have heard of called… Thriller.
