Back about 1975-76 I was just a kid. This was before the internet, before MTV, when all we had FM radio. I probably owned 6 albums total. If they didn't play them on the radio you would never know a group existed. So, I had never heard of Queen. I was living in St. Louis and the local Rock n Roll station KSHE-95 would play 7 albums from start to finish from 6:00 p.m. til midnight on Sunday evening. It was called The Seventh Day. They didn't play any Top 40 since that was what they played during the day. The Seventh Day was for concept albums, new music and eclectic stuff. That's where I first heard Queen. And they just blew me away. They were right up there with Pink Floyd, Alan Parsons, Yes, ELO, Emerson, Lake and Palmer. Every band was unique and every song was a story to be listened to carefully with the headphones on.
@@garyhaines8296 checked them out. She's amazing, but still find Freddie to be better. Also, he's a man. So a lot of the notes are harder for him to hit.
I mean, everybody grows up differently with different exposure to music and culture. And I don't think that learning about a singer whose music you don't ordinarily listen to within your peer group is a must in school or whatever, so I understand why he's so oblivious to Queen or Freddy Mercury.. I am just happy that he appreciates Mercurys talent upon his first ever listening to a Queen song, and it proves to me that objectively good music cuts through all the cultural differences and unites the human kind all over the world :) sry for my bad english it's not my native language
@@DevilsBeefCake Hi. Thanks for replying but to be fair. Most radio stations have played this track and a lot by Queen. I often laugh at adults that's haven't heard of Queen and look at react videos with a pinch of salt. As I can't believe people are that closed off from types of music. I also can't believe radio stations or demographics listen to one type of music in the US. But having been to the US many times and see news stations that broadcast nothing outside of the state they are in. I'm not supprised. Queen is one of the biggest bands in history worldwide. It's like saying I've never heard of Star Wars if it was a react video of Tools Right in Two. I'd agree because mainstream media don't play excellent bands that are controversial
Ceeb22 as a german, I agree that most of the main stream radio stations have played Queen in some capacity, but I have never heard Bohemian Rhapsody on the radio as it is quite frankly too long of a song and too „complex“ for the average listener that just wants some entertainment on their way to work or whatever. When the staitions play Queen songs it is mostly songs like „I‘ve got to break free“ or „another one bites the dust“. I have never been to the US myself, but I‘m assuming that the content creators peer group doesn‘t consist of avid rock music listeners and that he himself hasn‘t gotten into much contact with this kind of music, just because of his cultural background, but again, I‘m just assuming this. Personally I got into Rock because of my father and my friends, whose fathers introduced them into Rock aswell, so it just built up from there. And in my opinion, Eminems Lose Yourself is a much more Mainstream Radio friendly song than Bohemian Rhapsody, even though the latter is a better song objectively (in my opinion).
@@BoB-th8wm 110% he's heard this before but then it wouldn't be a reaction video and he would have sod all to do. They're all the same. Still entertaining to watch.....sometimes.
That was one of the funniest comments he said. I cracked up!! Edit: He might start to see a lot of my generational musicians could sing and play instruments.
Oh Jaycee, I’m an old lady now, 74. But to see the joy on your face listening to our beloved Queen, makes me want to cry. Hold on sweet young man you are in for the ride of your life hearing our music. I keep forgetting most listeners were not even a gleam in their parents eyes. Hugs!
Do you know "Music" by John Miles? That's similar. Or "Wuthering Heights" by Kate Bush (after a novel of the Bronté sisters). It is a MUST to have heard these three songs more than 10 (orm a 1000) times.
Freddie had a four-octave voice range; he could reach incredibly high and incredibly low notes. Queen is the only band whose members have individually written a hit
@@monketakingyoutoparadise5609 nah beetles ain't nothing compared to this. Another one bites the Dust, John Deceon, We Will ROCK you, Brain May and This, Mercury. Beetles can't get this
@@darth_vedant669 All though Queen have a better singer, Beatles are far better musically. Even if you disagree, that isn’t the point. Franl155 said that Queen is the only band where every member has written a hit, but in the Beatles all member have written several hits
@carpe diem I'm not talking about the opera section. I'm talking about the very beginning of the song. There is a video where Brian May breaks down the song. It's an interesting video.
@carpe diem the way the three of them harmonize is never less than breathtaking. I cannot even imagine how lucky the three of them were to find each other.. their composition is absolutely legendary, but to find band mates who can effortlessly harmonize 3 different registers of the same key is unheard of nowadays.. and they met each other by chance. I don’t believe in fate, but if I did these 3 meeting each other in a back alley after a mediocre local gig is it.
I hadn't realized there were people out there who'd never heard of Freddie Mercury and Queen. He was LEGEND. This song is LEGEND. It's great to see your reaction to it as a first-time listener. We lost a very special talent when we lost Freddie in 1991. His skill and talent were rare. RIP Freddie, you left your mark forever on this planet.
My dude, your reaction at the very end saying “it’s over already?” You just listened to a 7 minute song and it left you wanting more. Queen can do that to you
They have a 14min version.... 😎 on a viynal..can't remember which one..i had it..was a pic sleeve and one side was just 14 mins of this song... the b side was it's a kind of magic..also extended...
I'm sorry but when you asked us to let you know who 'the singer' is I did a huge offended double take LOL FREDDIE MERCURY IS NOT JUST A SINGER! He was THE singer! A true artist that had his flaws but you still loved him. You really need to do more reactions to Queen... you've got a lot to learn! ;))
Sadly, you'll never be able to appreciate just how ground-breaking this actually was. Not just the song but the video too. In 1975 when this came out, trust me. Minds were blown!
Dear JayVee, he had an extra teeth or a slightly buck teeth and had a 4 octave voice like Whitney Houston and Julie Andrews. Song 1975. He was extremely self conscious about his teeth. He never got the teeth fixed cut they thought it would affect his voice. Like Barbra Streisand nose. Listen to Barbra Streisand "the way we were ".
Interesting factoids: “Bohemian Rhapsody “ was solely composed, written and produced by Freddie Mercury. The bands label at the time refused to release it as a single because at 6 minutes, they argued the song was too long. Freddie had a friend whom was a DJ named Kenny Everett. Kenny played the song on his station several times over a few days. The fans were crazy about the song. It has since been considered the best song of the 20th century. Each member of Queen, Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor, and John Deacon all penned number one songs, making them the only band to have done so. (Even The Beatles didn’t quite do that.) Freddie’s voice has been registered by musicologists as having a 4 to 5 octave range. (A piano has 7) Unfortunately, Freddie contracted the HIV/AIDS virus at some point in the early 80’s, was diagnosed in 1986 and sadly succumbed to it in November of 1991, just one day before announcing publicly that he had the disease. *I was 20 when he passed. I was shocked and cried until my jaw ached when the news of his death broke along with millions of other fans. I still cry over his death. Several members of the music industry declared Freddie as the best singer/ front man of all-time. Each member of the band are highly intelligent as well as obviously talented. Freddie had a degree in design. Brian May has a doctorate of astrophysics and has worked on projects with NASA. John Deacon has a degree in electronic engineering. Roger Taylor has a degree in biology. Almost everything about Queen and each member is fascinating. There is a fantastic documentary called “Queen: The Days of Our Lives”. You must see it. Welcome to the Queen community! Your journey will change your life. 💜💫👑
Sour Lemonz Yes, but not number one songs as a band. The had each number ones as solo artists after the Beatles. Don't get me wrong, I adore The Beatles. In fact, they are my all-time favorite band. ✌🏼♥️
"Damn, it's over already?" Record labels didn't want to publish it because "it was too long". About his voice, as you've figured it out by now there's no other voice like his and likely never will.
@@5aleddss one of the greatest. You can't argue that he wasn't influential and was a revolutionary of his time. The impact he had on music would suggest that he was one of the greatest.
i.pinimg.com/originals/b4/bf/70/b4bf701810118d81364664092c970b4c.jpg this is all i will say... Freddy is one of the kind... no legend like that will ever be born again...
Cheryl Lott toddlers can sing this song. I don’t believe he’s never heard it. If it’s true he should be ashamed at himself either way I ain’t watching him any more, it’s too ridiculous.
Certainly the best non-claissical singer. In terms of power he wouldn't compete with opera or classical but on the other hand they tend to stick to a range whereas he was all over the place and then singing some harder rock too.
I played Queen for my 9-year old I told her just listen and tell me what you think. Well, we both ended up with tears in our eyes. It was a moment I and my daughter will never forget.
Same, I introduced my daughter to Queen when she was in the fourth grade about 8yrs old she is now 21 and still plays and sings this song today. We sing it together in the car when we’re together.
Love this! My Kindergartner asks for Queen a lot. We have a "greatest hits" album and he knows several of the songs. His favorites are "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Bicycle Race", and (as he calls it) "The Stomp-Stomp-Clap Song."
It still amazes me that there are people in the world of this guys age who haven’t heard this song, but they will because it’s a timeless piece of musical art.
@@robertshepherd7855 That's not always the case. Your experiences are not universal. It wasn't til I went to community college that I first heard of Queen. I heard snippets of their music on tv and in commercials but never a full song. Got a lot of grief from Americans when I've admitted to not knowing them, the three stooges, and for never having eaten mac and cheese because they always forget. As a Latinx person, I was not exposed to any of them. Some Latinos might be, but I wasn't, and he probably wasn't either.
I read this a while ago: A Dentist, an Electrical Engineer, an Astrophysicist and an Academy Art School Graduate walked on stage.............. And gave us Queen Freddie Mercury is the GREATEST showman/Frontman/Singer songwriter ever.
Lol - That was cute, and his surprise that this entrancing, lento piano part was a prelude to a confession to a violent crime amused me. But I must share a misunderstanding of that lyric a friend of mine had: She thought that his mama had just killed a man. Lol. "Mama [,] just killed a man ..." Makes sense, even with the lyrics that follow if you want it to. Oh-Lol-I just remembered another one: "I'm just a pool boy/Don't need no sympathy ..."
'Bohemian Rhapsody' WAS Freddie's confessional. It was about how different his life could have been, and how much happier he might have been, had he just been able to be himself, the whole of his life. The world heard this song as a masterpiece of imagination, a great command of musical styles.
I actually did see Freddie Mercury with Queen 3 times!! The first time was from the front row and I stood there mesmerized because he sounds just like this live. So close that he sweat on me!!!
Only got to see them once. Freddy's last live performance at Knebworth in 1986. Freddy had an amazing vocal range and was probably one of, if not THE greatest (IMO of course).
When I was 8 I found out Freddie Mercury died the year before I was born and was absolutely devastated cuz I knew I would never see him in concert. And 20 years later, I feel exactly the same. Absolutely devastated. And makes it worse is my dad bragging about seeing them numerous times in concert when he was a teenager. 😩
The reviewer is a sweetheart, open and honest, it was almost as lovely seeing his reaction as hearing the song again. This is a perfect example of why it's important to stay open and receptive to other cultures, music, styles, literature etc. He was bowled over by the type of music he 'never usually listens to'. A lovely review. Gorgeous looking guy too :-)
Freddie Mercury born as Farrokh Bulsara actually of Indian origin.....with pale skin....he was embarrassed by this due to the acute racism in the UK in the 1960s , 1970s etc. It was thanks to his pale skin in the first place he got the opportunity to perform .
HOW did you not hear this song until 2019!? I actually have no idea how that's even possible, this has to be one of the biggest hits of the 20th century.
@@midtownkitten483 I'm born in 1994. This song gets played everywhere still! Whether in movies, radio, covers.... I genuinely feel like this song is just one of those songs that everyone KNOWS.
Alex Meredith Anyone exposed to music from an older era is fortunate but the reality is that it just doesn’t happen for everyone but that is only something I’ve learned from experience and age.
It’s regionality and background! I didn’t hear a lot of pop or rock “oldies” until I was a young adult because my parents just didn’t play it in my household and the community I grew up in played a LOT of old school R&B, blues, and Motown. So there is probably a lot of music I grew up with that others didn’t discover until they were older for the same reasons. I figure as long as we eventually hear these gems, we’re good.
man, when i was a kid, i hear people praising Queen as one of the greatest bands ever... i thought "Queen? that name sounds so weak hahaha i bet their songs are shit" i've never been so fucking wrong in my entire life. i fell in love with Queen.
Wasn't it because of his massive overbite? I'm sure I saw an interview somewhere with him saying he'd never have his teeth fixed because he'd lose his range. Passion for opera and brought all the theatre of it to rock. Stunning talent.
@@clarabirb8486 he thought so. Thats why he never fixed his teeth. Science has advanced since then. He had extra folds on his vocal chords. That was the real reason but that was nor figured out until the last decade. He died of course of complications while suffering from AIDS.
@@gerardmccorrisken2398, unfortunately Mariah Carey of all people has 5 octaves!!! I was shocked to find that out! But had Fred lived then he may have been able to be tested better & found out scientifically his levels... Plus the fact that his teeth had nothing to do with his voice but his unusual larynx & vocal cords which someone else commented on above. Genetically it has something to do with his families Iranian ancestory & some rare tribe known for their unusual larynx abilities which they believe the Bulsaras were descended from.
He’s talking to his mom about what he’s done. That’s the amazing Freddie Mercury. It was heartbreaking when he died. It was released in 1975 and is considered a rock opera.
@@jojobiscuits Fake? Maybe this one scene in the movie. (Where do you get your "information" from?) But Queen had to fight for this unsual long song to be played by the radio stations!
He probably wasn't born during that time and after the fact not exposed to Queen's music. That is why I like these channels so much to see people looking at the music I grew up with, with a fresh view. Thanks
An absolute joy to see somebody hear a proper Rock God for the first time and to appreciate his genius. Saw Queen live at Wembley Stadium in 1986 and that experience will stay with me forever. Live Magic in every sense
@@AshishSharma77 Oh, god! That concert was killer! Watching Freddie dance, sing and get into it gives me chills every time I watch it! Loved watching this guy feel the same thing!
I have always loved Queen’s music, but it wasn’t until I saw the movie that I’ve come to appreciate the whole band, particularly Freddie. He had a fantastic voice. At the end of the movie I always cry because I realize we lost a major star and I’ll never hear anything new from him. So sad aids got him. Such a waste.
This kid's (I mean kid n a genuinely affectionate way) reaction is just absolutely delightful. Most people get caught out with each musical shift. Not this guy, he's just vibing, loving the instruments, loving the mood, being thrilled with the effect of the pan through his headphones... And, both adorably and astutely, letting us know that he recognises an amazingly wonderful singer and his voice. I LOVE how in tune with the composition in its entirety this guy was. He claims at the end that he feels like learning an instrument; the inference is he has never learned to play any before... I have watched a few of his reactions now and it's very very evident that he has that innate musicality that not everyone does. I hope he has actually looked into learning to play something. He gets music, he would get so much out of being able to play and improvise a jam.
Every member in this band were trained in classical music. The can sing every thing from opera to rock. Queen is definitely one of the best bands ever.
Despite the fact that I have heard this song countless times, when I watched this, your reaction to it, it made all the hair on my head stand on end like I was hearing it again for the first time.
I had tickets to a Queen concert in '77 or '78. That day one of the worst snowstorms to hit Cincinnati (where I lived) shut down the highway between Cinci & Dayton, where the concert was. I've never forgiven the weather gods!!
Is one of thee rare songs that is as relevant now as it was then... the video is dated af... but the actual song.... thats a song thats truly timeless.... it'd smash records if it got redone or re released today
Fun fact: the lead guitarist, Brian May finished his doctorate in astrophysics after Freddy Mercury's death and in 2007, was appointed Chancellor of Liverpool John Moores University
This is how we all come together with our music, our lyrics, our thoughts, our feelings, This Is How We Do It. This is how we become one people, together.
It’s so stunning to me to see someone hearing Queen for the first time! To see absolute perfection for the first time, OMG ! Oh Freddy how I miss you! The rest of the guys too of course, it’s just that Freddy is so spectacular you forget how really fantastic the others are!
4 decades to be exact and that's why it's so great back then people didn't have the ready access to music that we do now so most of the people of the generation have the song on their own on vinyl on tape on whatever they can. But a billion views is pretty impressive and you can't say otherwise
"Where have I been?" That and the other comments shows you how much diverse music is out there and from across generations. It's a privilege watching you react and pass such lovely comments.
It was evident that this was genuinely your first time hearing this song. It made me smile to see your joy at hearing and seeing it. "It's over already?" Freddie had to fight to get this 6-minute-long song played. That just shows the power of the music. You don't want it to end. There are so many beautiful types of music in the world. You do your soul an injustice if you listen to only one genre. Welcome to Queen, and pure art, young man.
It made me smile when you said that he was a "world-class" act... considering that Queen was one of biggest selling bands in the history of rock music. And with their "We Are The Champions" being played at some time during almost every American football game for the last 30 years, even on that side of the Atlantic, their reputation is enormous.
American football and the somewhat less popular hockey. Also played at 50% of all major sporting events, at least in the US: The beginning of "We Will Rock You" (no lyrics), and Brian May had arena rock in mind when he came up with that stomp/clap pattern. And that hair. 😉
I know it's like how can someone have never heard of Freddie Mercury the greatest singer and shoman there as ever been but they are out there living among us😅
“Whoever that star singer is, he’s world class man”. Yep - look at greenday concert crowd waiting, Freddie gives a concert from beyond the grave! That is true Legend!
First impression I was calling bullshit on someone not having heard behemian rhapsody but his reaction was brilliant and honest, like everyone else I was watching the first half thinking you haven't seen anything yet. Discovering new music is fantastic whenever the music was made is irrelevant, it's new to him.
andyukmonkey ....Neither have I. Seen the title, I know QUEEN but never listened to it. Comin from a Fam of musicians, I can appreciate the arrangement; not my kind of music...(& we listen to everything). At least now I’ve heard it.
This is also my first time finally listening to Bohemian Rhapsody lol. I really love Queen/Freddie Mercury; their music 🎶 was very unique! For some reason, this was a song I’d always seen or heard of the title but never came across to actually listen to it. Ppl talk about it so much as if it’s the band’s greatest song and maybe to most fans it is lol. I can certainly appreciate the instrumentals and the vocals, of course! However I’m not completely blown away as I thought I’d be...I don’t think it’s their best song. It’s definitely not my favorite of theirs. We all have our own opinions; to each his or her own 😊✌🏾

I have no idea how Freddie isn’t more widely known, he is so iconic in the uk. He sadly passed at his peak. Also Brian may is sadly Sick at the moment and needs our support and he diversified from music and is a doctor of science now.
I really enjoyed seeing your reaction to Freddie's voice. Queen is music history. And it's so joyful that they are discovered by young people still. Great music is eternal. Cheers and congrats to you JV!
They weren't ”bad teeth" they were extra teeth causing his mouth to be able to create sounds we hadn't heard yet.... until autotune we haven't heard since
Love your reaction. Seeing someone with a strong reaction to music that they generally are not accustomed to listening to is as enjoyable as appreciating the music itself, Thanks for the review!
But Michael Jackson especially, was a WORLDWIDE MEGASTAR, a household name in just about every country on Earth. Queen could fill a stadium in a lot of countries, but they never got quite as famous. Of course, Elvis was the king of rock and roll, Michael Jackson was the king of pop. But Freddie Mercury was the QUEEN.
