Vanilla Ice stole the bass riff. When Queen's and David Bowie's lawyer contacted Ice, he tried to claim his bass riff in Ice Ice Baby was different (he did add an extra beat) but no one believed him. Eventually, he settled out of court by paying a lot of money to both Queen and David Bowie to release their claim on the song plus he had to agree to give them writing credit.

John Deacon wrote that bass riff and VI took it and did not credit Queen and David Bowie who collaborated on the writing of this song. They sued Vanilla Ice for over 5 million dollars but allowed him to continue to sell that record but with no rights to the music beyond that one record. Vanilla Ice got a 5 x Platinum with that single. VI tried to say he bought the song but that was never true, Queen and David Bowie own that song still today.

John Deacon AKA Deakey the bass guitarist came up with the riff when they were messing around in the studio with David Bowie they went to lunch and he forgot it and the drummer Roger Taylor remembered it when they got back to the studio

The worst thing is that the Ice Ice Baby theft seems to have ruined "Under Pressure" for anyone under a certain age because "Ice Ice Baby" was so popular that they can't hear "Under Pressure" the way it should be heard. It's such a great song with a great message.

Freddie was eating his breakfast when he heard Ice Ice Baby on the radio. He stopped eating suddenly, making his personal assistant think there was something wrong with his breakfast. He promptly called his attorney who was already dealing with it and never brought it up again. Freddie didn't dwell on things. While Freddie had a hand in everything, he trusted his team to do their jobs...and they did. Queen not only had four multi-talented band members, they had excellent support staff. Queen is from the early 70s on until Freddie's death in 1991, although Roger (drums) & Dr. Brian May (lead guitar) still tour with different lead singers such as Adam Lambert. What is being called 'sampling' is actually stealing and not even giving credit to all of those creators. Sad.
