This Album is actually a masterpiece(in my eyes). If Picasso made Hip Hop this is what it would sound like. Remind you, this album is OLD right now, and a lot of things referenced were popular at the time. I first heard this album as a teen when it was released, and it was mind-bending, especally if you were high( lyrics and beats put you in a trance ). It's a Trippy Dark album. I feel this was Redmans' best work. Awesome to see you vibing to a childhood classic of mine. Great Video!

"Interludes" were a big part of 90's hip hop all together, it was how hip hop artist brought you into their world via their albums. Supreme Clientele from Ghostface Killah is a perfect example of this point. Love the honesty about this album as well, it's a bit underground so I can see why you aren't a fan of some of the tracks. Much Respect, keep up the good work.

Also what you say Red ain't as lyrical as Nas.... They different. Nas would never get wild and go on feeling alone like Redman would/can, same as Red allows you to just wig out on the funk and know how to accompany it.

That’s insane. He is technically WAY more lyrical than Nas. As in he uses more words, and wordplay than Nas does. Nas is straight up. And affective. 100% soul and heartfelt. Redman does not do heartfelt stuff, he does verbal gymnastics. So if you consider “lyrical“ the most experimental with words, Redman has Nas beat hands-down. But if you use the word “lyrical“ as in having the most emotional impact, it’s def Nas. Love them both. Edit: never liked skits/interludes either
@maroon9273

@@TheColdrush22 redman is technical when he wants to be. However red is a raw straight to the point, culture reference, battle rapper and freestyler. While nas is more of a pen lyricist and storyteller.

P. P. P = Pistol Packin' Possee. As I heard the album with you, for the first time in probably 10 years, it occurs to me that Redman is really the guy who other MCs list as their favorite rapper, due to his insane rhyme schemes and his ability to rhyme fast and then slow and run on sentences that don't really fit the standard format. And it's this very trait that can make it a little hard to listen to the first few times. It's really just ALOT in every way. In addition, I think Redman almost qualifies as Avant Garde hip hop. It's just so WIERD, even the interludes that you hate, the short songs, and his wry humor, it's really like nothing that came before it. Infact I think his really developed sense of humor is what leads to alot of people to sleep on him, almost like he's a comedian and actor first, rapper second. I hope this helped open your eyes, as it reminded me, how original Redman was in 1994 and how lyrically unmatched be really was. Great react!

I think youse are both right. On one hand you catch more shit than 99 percent of people listening and, esp for your age but just in general, you have a broad set of cultural references that help you see the millions of call backs and samples he weaved into his music. It's complex as hell but you're doing yeoman's work diciphering it, for sure. On the other hand, the brother makes a great point. Redman made sfeadhh progress during his career in crafting songd that average Joe's could vibe to. He had considerable success in doing so, similar to how Sean Price did in discarding the elevated insanity and Godbody lyrics to create hilarious bully rap after Heltah Skeltah fell apart. Those albums are much more accessible to new Redman fans, and I'm sure this is not an easy listen to the uninitiated. As I said in an earlier comment this is really avant garde stuff, and is so wierd it's shocking he had as much success as he had. It also explains why MCs love him. Eminem said he was his favorite for a reason. FWIW I can't even picture an album this dense and bananas bejng created today, let alone being released by a major label. It's kinda gratifying after I read the all the comments that most people agreed that this album is amazing, but far from an easy listen. As far as confusing him with method man? Pfffff. Love meth but man, there's no comparison.
